A big thank you to all of the speedrunners who made this video possible. Speedrunning has impacted me on a deep level over the years, and I hope to pay my proper respects to it with this video. Thank you all for watching!

Great video. Remember watching the blindfolded Punch Out runs live on GDQ and they blew me away. Now I watch runs of most games I finish as soon as I’m done them.

I have been watching Arcus. Just something to watch while the wife and I zone out. It's pretty impressive that these guys can pull off these speeds. I still can't understand how they do Contra so fast

I can't remember the most epic speedrun I ever watched because I don't watch speed runs and I generally avoid them at all costs.
For me being a video game completionist speedrunning has literally 0 appeal to me. I've never watched any aspect of the gamesdonequick or any other speedrunning live streams. I can respect and understand the amount of skill that comes with people who do speedruns but regardless if your a world record holder or your recognized because you have done a speedrun on certain game but I won't treat you with any more importance than your typical casual gamer.
An excellent well put together video Kevin, and it's nice to see your love of speedrunning and what it has meant a lot to you personally. Ultimately for me, I just keep my love of gaming relatively simple and I stick to what I enjoy because in my eyes there are no right or wrong way to play a video game and even though I think video games have a ton of tricks and glitches that deserve to be exploited by people who dedicate their time to that kind of stuff it's just not for me and for me and my personal enjoyment of video games is simply doing everything it has to offer and permanently retiring it and moving on to the next one.
You've known my long enough that you know I tend to keep to myself when it comes to my love of video games and I don't really join a lot of groups, but when it comes to my love of video games I would rather amount to nothing in the video game realm then end up being popular by doing something in a game that would give me popularity.

Whenever I begin to fall in love with a game (some recent examples being Hollow Knight and A Hat in Time), one of the first things I do I look up how speedrunners have gracefully blazed through it to near perfection. The mind-blowing maneuvers and cheering audiences are always a treat to see. Now that I've just started playing Doom Eternal, I think I'm gonna watch some right now.

@@PressStartToContinueYT Well I found your channel through Whang who tweeted about you. Since he seems interested in supporting you and he has a big following (and hes also a HUGE EB fan) you should see if something can be collabed on.

This video makes me sad. I love speedrunning. the communities the everything. But gosh darnit. I am just not skilled enough nor play a beloved game, to ever get to show off how cool speed running is. Forever under the shadows of those more talented. Still, I am glad that speedrunning has taken off as it did, became what we know it is today. While the golden years are gone. Classics might be getting closer to being completed. Speedrunning will live on.

People devote their literal lives to speedrunning. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Find something that makes you happy and do that. The best part is you don't have to be good at something to enjoy it!

I definitely feel your pain. I’ve been into speed running since like 2008 before it really blew up. I follow games I’m nostalgic for, like the early Marios, Contra, Punch Out etc. i would love nothing more than to hear my name on a Summoning Salt video or this amazing channel we’re on. I just don’t have the skill.

That SMB3 run was crazy at that time, so many rumours surrounding it. The weirdest was: He programmed an AI which optimized the individual levels to play the game as smooth as possible, haha. Anyways, DKC2 is also my fave to watch speed running game. My fave to run is BoF5DQ, which is an unpopular game on many levels.

I’m of my favorite thing about speed running is how it seems to be the most accepting gaming communities. It’s like the only gaming community that trans people tend to flock to. Almost every speed running history has at least one trans person who has played a massive part int the history. Like narcissa and 3D zeldas

    • @jessicalaplant9306

Though just a piece of advice as a transwomen. If some one has changed their name or even their username you should always refer to them as their current name. Like it would make me so so mad for some one to talk about me as a kid as anything other than Jessica,. Just cuz some one wasn’t out then doesn’t mean we should not call them what they want when we talk about thwn

near the beginning you mentioned that games didnt reward players for finishing games quickly and then referred to sonic and mario points gained from the remaining time counter. I think the first Metroid released in the 80s and the un-suiting Samus depending on how quickly you finished the game would count as a time 'reward'

I like how the golden eye you showed was the unreleased XBLA remaster that the fans deserved. That game pass / Nintendo online port coming sometime next year will only be a port and the remaster will be forgotten, we could have had something is great as perfect dark XBLA but no. And then we have Nintendo with their online multiplayer exclusivity. That's disgusting nature beyond words

speaking as a trans person here, you shouldn't refer to Narcissa by her deadname. the wording "later known as" has weird implications. she has always been Narcissa because thats who she is, and thats her name.
