As researchers like Dr. Stephen Krashen have shown over the past 40+ years, receiving comprehensible input, that is, messages that you can understand in the target language, is what actually results in language acquisition.
By listening to our stories, cultural expositions, conversations and games, you will get used to real Spanish as it's used in context, and develop a native-like intuition for the grammar and the vocabulary, together with a clear pronunciation.

We’ve been traveling all around South America for almost a year and knew 0 Spanish! Colombia (and dreaming Spanish) is the best place to learn Spanish! They speak slow and clear and they are very very kind and patient when they can see you are trying to learn! The one downside is they do have a lot of of slang there! Great video Augustina!
    My top are
    1. Colombia
    2. Mexico
    3. Spain
    4. Ecuador
    5. Peru

I've already made up my mind where I am going to practise Spanish and it's Bucaramanga in the region of Santander in Colombia and then I will follow Agustina's recommendations. As someone who is a history buff, Peru sounds fascinating. If I were to go to Spain, Valladolid would be my preferred destination. Agustina, your recommendations were amazing, so thank you.

Colombia between Bucaramanga and Bogota is great! There’s a bit more to see / do toward Bogota and if you stay there you can more easily access areas like the coffee region and the Amazon. But Bucaramanga and the area just south of it is a pretty nice part of the country. Enjoy!

You should check out "Español con María". She has a very popular channel here on UA-cam (www.youtube.com/@espanolconmaria) and lives in Bucaramanga. She also offers immersive travel tours to various parts of Colombia, which I highly recommend. I did her Santander group and made memories which will last a lifetime. Colombian Spanish is very easy for native English speakers to comprehend.

Based on driving through Latin America for a couple years.
    1. Warmest People: Colombia (also has incredible wildlife and landscapes)
    2. Best Food: Mexico (also some of the nicest people we’ve met)
    3. Amazing History: Peru (but there’s a ton of trash everywhere 😢) The food is great too… and the pre Incan culture is much more interesting (in my opinion).
    4. Best Wine / Beef: Argentina. People are pretty friendly, there are cool cities, and the landscapes are great. But, many of the cities feel like you’re in the US or something and the Spanish is pretty hard to understand (not Chile hard… but at 700-900 hours we struggle more here than Colombia, Ecuador, or Peru). Oh and the schedule people adhere to is comical and the money situation is both sad and a pain to deal with.
    5. Honorable mention: Ecuador. It has a bit of everything but less of that makes sense. The people are great, the landscapes are beautiful, and the history is impressive… just not at the levels of some of its neighbors.
We haven’t been to all of the countries yet… but if we had to relocate or if we had the cash to buy a vacation home we’d probably choose Colombia, Mexico, or maybe Argentina if we got a great deal and the country starts to improve economically. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @sobriquet5016
      @sobriquet5016 2 дні тому +1

On point 4, just wondering what do you mean by the schedule people adhere to is comical?

    • @TsavoTouring
      @TsavoTouring День тому +4

@@sobriquet5016 dinner is the big one. If you go to a restaurant at 6pm it’s closed… if you go at 8pm it’s probably open but empty. When you finish and pay around 9 people are starting to come in to eat. We have a child so we miss out on anything after that, but some friends we made near Salta went to dinner as we were comping back to the hotel around 10… when we saw them in the morning they said most of them were up until about 4 a.m. drinking and talking. Oh and I guess there’s another small meal after dinner at some point. In Buenos Aires we stayed near a pizza place that was always empty but we checked on google and it was busiest around midnight.
In the morning maybe around 8-9 many have a small breakfast (lunch meat, bread, etc.). Then a little later some have another snack because lunch doesn’t take place until around 2 pm. If you’re in a smaller town… after lunch everything closes and it’s like a ghost town. But in many places around 5 pm some businesses reopen for merienda where people have coffee and a pastry or small piece of a giant sandwich. Somewhere a bit before and after merienda every third or so person pulls out a full size thermos and walks around using it to refill their mate cup.
I feel like the strangest thing to people from countries with schedules is that business will randomly close (maybe because of the economy🤷🏻‍♂️) sometimes for the day… others for a seemingly random period that doesn’t match what’s posted on the door.
I think banks are only open in the morning (but we only go to western union so I can’t say that with too much confidence). I’m sure there’s more I’m forgetting / missing but we’ve only been here for about a month so there’s much more to learn.
It’s a beautiful country and people are generally pretty friendly… but if you’re coming from the US, Germany, etc. where timing / schedules means something prepare yourself for a different interpretation in Argentina.

Nice Top 5 Agustina! The nature of Costa Rica was incredible and was worth to visit. But if you want to learn spanish like a German (like me) it's difficult because everybody can help you in English.
Cuba 🇨🇺 I wasn't been there and I can't go like other people's also not.
The problem of Cuba is now Cuba is in the black list of the USA 🇺🇸 and if you have a stamp of Cuba you can't get the ESTA for Europeans and I guess also it's difficult to get a VISA for the states.
I'm not a big fan of the USA 🇺🇸, but I use the connections about USA 🇺🇸 when I want to go to South America.
    My Top 5 Spanish Countries:
(for travel reasons and for learning Spanish)
    1. Colombia 🇨🇴
    2. Nicaragua 🇳🇮
    3. México 🇲🇽
    4. Peru 🇵🇪
    5. Spain 🇪🇸
Bolivia 🇧🇴 has also a great nature but for the most you need a tour like from Uyuni. Chile 🇨🇱 is also great, but it's very difficult to understand their Spanish. Unfortunately I never visited so far Argentina 🇦🇷. 😭
