The sounds of distant laughter and music echo in the background, prompting you to your feet in search for answers. As you make your way through the narrow alleyway, you find yourself in a town with a night sky filled with stars shining brightly on its horizons. You stumble across the town square and can't help but notice the beautifully paved streets lit with warm, yellow lights. Two black lamps stand at the center of the plaza, surrounded by children running playfully around the open area. By following the sound of the music, you discover an outdoor café filled with a number of unique patrons. There's a live band tonight, and they're playing smooth jazz music that speaks directly to your soul. Traverse Town is the epitome of what Kingdom Hearts is all about. The lived in feel and charm with a hint of mystery of a Final Fantasy game, blended with the warmth and vibrance of Disney movies

Original Kingdom Hearts had magic and mystery I havent felt in any other game in the series.
The mystery is amazing... They should explain a few things less to keep the mystery in the air... From the moment we see that stylized door in Destiny Island that doesn't open and we don't know what it is, we already feel the mystery and then Sora leaves his universe and falls into Traverse Town at night, Everything seems unexplained, mysterious, inserted... You feel like you are in an atypical place, in a familiar but atypical situation. I always have the same Feeling when we see Sora walking at night on those dirt paths with grass on the side... It's a familiar, strange feeling that conveys mystery and insecurity and in some magical way reminds me From a strange part of childhood. A child's perspective on the serious side of life, that we dont fully understand yet.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Universal Studios made a Traverse Town since they’re currently making Donkey Kong Land in 2024
Traverse Town definitely has that uncanny valley effect. Sounds and noises of a bustling town and the place is barren of any life when you walk around.
I think many old videogames had that effect

It's kind of crazy to me now as an adult that the thing I most vividly remember clocking when I played Kingdom Hearts when I was ten was the lack of NPCs in the game, most especially in Traverse Town.
@@AmandaJulina I know what you mean. Personally I found it a bit spooky and the magician's study didn't help.
I feel like they should have made it daytime or something.
That was part of the point, however most old games didn't have the space so they were often filled with important characters. Now adays it's pretty expected to fill cities with NPCs.
Kingdom Hearts needs it's own theme park
I remember being a kid and looking up at the stars in Traverse Town and wondering which star was what Disney world..... There was one that stood out to me and thats where Kairi was.... At least to me ❤ ... I even started a new game and got here and looked up and started crying.... Man what music and games can do to us....

It's 2002, you're up late at night on the ps2, and you've been following a boy on tropical islands all day... his home is torn away from him, and he's tossed into dangers unlike no other... at least here you can rest easy, knowing the boy is in a good place, that while not entirely safe, he can find comfort here.
I used this ambience to reduce my anxiety when I was going through some stuff. I was upset that it was gone for a bit. So glad you re-uploaded. Timing couldn't have been any better. Thank you 🙏

One of my friends in high school (2012-2013) had the heart to show me Kingdom Hearts on his ps2 as he was obsessed with it and played it many times. We had a small run going until the inevitable for us happened, one of those days we spent together we didn't know would be our last. He lived in my neighborhood and would come to my house a lot. Sometimes I would get annoyed and want to just have the day to myself. I hadn't really given the game much thought as I had moved on from older gen games and had my xbox live and shooter games to play with my other friend group, but I did like the game play, story, and music of KH. After the years have passed I really started playing the genre of games I had always played before, and I realized how much I had missed them. What did I grab among them: Kingdom Hearts. I have also grown to miss that precious time with friends without having a worry in the world, and wish I hadn't taken it for granted while getting annoyed sometimes. My next play through will be for the friend that I wish I spent more time with and I wish we could've played the amazing game all the way through. Here's to you, Ben.
We all took it for granted. 😭 my cousin introduced it to me and bro. Now, we don't even talk or have any common ground because life. But at one point in time, we were all united here in traverse town. 🥲 hopefully, one day we can return even if just for a moment.

I feel like I'm at a dinner at an outdoor patio place in Disney Parks.
Traverse town for me will always be that special place where it all began. It has such a nostalgic and curious air about it. It reminds me of bring a child walking through the dimly lit streets of disneyland, eyes full of wonder.
Loved coming here after big boss battles to unwind. Traverse Town is therapeutic.

I do have to say that I found myself feeling more productive in writing my book to this. Who would have thought that the jazzy vibes in Traverse Town would get my mind focused on accomplishing even something as tedious as citing my sources? I will definitely add this to my Writer's Playlist and will be coming back for more, when the mood and time are right.

It was a different lifetime with its own issues that seem so small now. It's a perspective that I try to hold on to well into adulthood because life is colder now. Not complaining or anything. Just think that that childhood innocent is needed even in adults from time to time. In a world full of heartless, our hearts are forever ingrained here in traverse town. 🥰

I've always wondered if there will ever be a connection between Traverse Town, Twilight Town, and Daybreak Town. They're all "towns" and they all center around clock towers in some way (you could argue that Radiant Garden also fits the bill as well).
It's proooooobably just that Nomura likes the asthetic of clocktowers in towns or something. But it would be cool if there was a deeper reason.

I would be lying if I said I didn't miss the old background. The old version of traverse town was bright, colorful, full of various colors that drew the eyes. Whatever happened to it?
I definitely think the lighting of the original was better. I really tried to match them but it just wouldn't come out the same. The old version used still images that were edited to make them appear animated. This new version uses an actual 3D map that was created as a mod for Kingdom Hearts 3. I opted to go for this new version because I could actually load into this map and take pictures at many different angles with the free cam. I still have a copy of the old one, and will consider reuploading it after everything else is uploaded.

Ah Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2.. Where the worlds Sora visited actually had a purpose to the story instead of just being a filler world to level. Also FF characters.
