- Viewable for the first time in high quality 4K, this is reel 1 of the 25 minute British Movietone documentary called "The Royal Wedding". This stunning 4K version has been made from the original British Movietone 35 mm negative. Movietone were the only company to film events of this momentous day on film rather than video. A seamless version of the documentary is available via AP Archive in London. The file size is too large to upload to UA-cam so we have loaded up each individual reel for you to enjoy in 4K quality, plus 12 clips of key moments from this special day.

it’s so amazing to be able to watch such a historical event in this insane quality
I love the way how they restored the film, The magic of editing
DGJ P Editing Amazing
It’s not a restoration, it’s just a high quality scan of what happens to be a high quality film which was well-preserved.
more like the magic of 35mm celluloid film, which has equivalent of 5.6k digital resolution
Thank you
V
Being home quarantined brought me here. I’m now in a marathon watching Princess Di’s videos.
I’m amazed by the quality of the footage. This was the 80s. Great work in the restoration! Still sad to watch though. 😢😪
Filmed in 35 mm color film. That is better than HD, actually.
1980s wasn't the dark ages.
I was a young child on this day, annoyed that it was on TV. I can see it now as an adult & appreciate its splendor. Knowing what we know now, though, it seems so sad. The awesomeness of this: the detail is so crisp! It feels like it happened yesterday!
MaineShutterbug i wasnt even born
it is but those who hated this time are now on march and want to put back Ferguson for to kill it out all as she and Meghan is the only one who sign for to do it. IT IS NOT THE ROYAL FAMILY MEMBERS IT IS THE UK PUBLISHER WHO IS BEHIND TO DO THAT WITH THAT UGLY ROTTEN ONLY PRETEND WOMEN WITH DEADLY SKILLED BEHIND FOR TO DO SO ...
Me too I am seven years old when they married but I like Diana very much and Prince Charles too..but their marriage is not longer happy..so bad..why like this at the beggining all likes so beautiful and much of love ...
A bit unrelated, but it’s strange to think that Kate and Meghan are now older than Princess Diana was when she passed away.

Well at least we know that poor princess Diania died young and will forever be young... But Kate and Megan will grow old and ugly. Hell Megan is already ugly.. So she's already in ugly old age as far as im concerned. 😂😂😂

I remember watching this wedding because it was on every news station worldwide and I thought it was a beautiful wedding ,myself, although I was only 6 years old at the time . I always thought Princess Diana was so beautiful!! Beautiful wedding!!
The greatest wedding ceremony ever! It will never be surpassed , everything was perfect that day!
Greatest wedding and xworst marriage
Forever Princess Diana. England’s Rose! 🌹Queen of England and the world forever. The most great woman of the world. The Universe loves you ❤️. You are wonderful
Princess Diana was England's greatest rose. In 1981, Princess Diana got married to Prince Charles at St Paul's Cathedral, London.
The mist stunning Princess Diana. No one will ever replace her stunning beauty and warmth. She was a beauty.
Those little girl brides maids having to fight that very long train.
Rafaela Soto don't speak for me! Diana silly woman! Much better Kate
frances odle Kate replaced her. SHE REALLY REPLACED HER SO MUCH!
Run Diana, run away and don't look back.
annie64ist too late.
It's too late now
She was killed by order of the Royals because they no longer could control her & because she was costing the millions in lost bomb sales amoung other things.
Princess Diana wrote about how she feared for her life because she stated the Royals were planning to kill her useing a car and she was right.
Would nt it something to kn future that s life

What a wedding! ... filled with tension with the prince's adulterer girlfriend in attendance!
Diana acquires the title of Princess of Wales when she married Prince Charles at St Paul's Cathedral in London on 29th July 1981.
That s the one thing no body wanted to se at the weddings.
And imagine, soon Charles will be king, and Camilla the queen?? God forgive me but I abhor that person.
Annnd it’s 2023 lol too late. Sucks balls!!
Such a bitter sweet memory for me . I was 13 and enthralled with it all!!! I was able to see the gown in person in 2005 at the Diana exhibit that went to several cities in the US.
I watched this on Television with my mother in 1981. I was 13yrs old. It was the wee hours the morning for us. We watched it live on CNN. We were living in Honolulu, Hawai’i, USA.
She was stunning.
Princess Diana looked beautiful in her wedding dress.
@@debbieparkes3588 The wedding dress was all crumpled.
Not a good choice or material.
How could I forget!!! I still remember us as 8year olds at school watching this on the tv!!! Now in my 50's and still very close to my heart!! ❤❤❤
A groom forced by his family.
A bride lied to.

He could have said no, no one forced him at gunpoint to marry that poor girl. He could have simply given up his rights to the throne and choose Camilla from the start.
@@91clarie oh my godness! Do you really think it is so easy to leave titles and fortune when you think you could have it all? Or to confront The Queen? 👀
@@sylviedeblois3360 Never said it was easy but it would have been the decent thing to do. But no, his selfishness effed poor Diana over and also Camilla's husband. If the throne was so important to him, he should have committed to Diana.
Thankfully this was shot on film not video, the quality of the picture is amazing. Even the grain is practically invisible.
I was a teen and loved it, all day coverage!
My mum was 8 years old when Princess Diana's wedding happened
She has a good heart,, #foreverprincessdiana
Princess Diana has had a good heart. She became Princess of Wales when she married Prince Charles at St Paul's Cathedral in London on 29th July 1981, which was three weeks after her 20th birthday.
"Had" a good heart.
I love that William gave the Sapphire ring to Kate. Charles still has to see it.
Hell yes...and Cowmilla has to see that ring as well.🤘🤣
@@sunnyhill5119 do you think that Camilla is brooding over Diana or jumping wtih horror when she sees a ring that Diana used to wear?
@@glen7318 No...not really. But she has to live with the knowledge that Diana will always be the queen of the people's hearts.
@@sunnyhill5119 do you think that that bothers her? She's with the man she loves, she's queen. why would she care that some people "love" diana.

Lady Diana.. you got me on my heart, such a humble and down to earth person... you are the inspirational for the world and the people...
I remember getting benched off the swim team because I stayed home for this.
I saw this wedding on TV and I was 15 years old. We had some students from London and they brought us tea container and coasters and I still to this day have them.

I hope many more of these old films get a 4K remaster like this.
If they were filmed in 35mm, sure. And 16mm film is good at least for a 2K/HD transfer. If old videotape, it's stuck at low-res forever.
Thank you!
Lady Di, Princess of Wales. She was, is and will be a commoner forever. She is always present in the hearts of the people

Beautiful wedding dres i love lady Diana
the fact that we can make a historical event in 4k is insane
35mm movie film. The same reason old Hollywood movies going back many decades can look spectacular in 4K if good elements survive.
The wedding was beautiful and princess Diana looked fantastic ❤️💕 really miss her
She was so beautiful not only in looks but her nature outshone everyone else, she will always be my Princess R.I.P. Diana .
And Diana was NEVER a commoner her lineage goes back to King Charles 11
The sovereign splendor of Lady Di always iluminates the world
She was such a beautiful bride
He really didn’t deserve her.

Wow it's so strange seeing film and television archive footage from 1981 in 4K Ultra HD! It looks like it was filmed yesterday! Especially when we are so used to seeing it on a very low quality aspect ratio videotape!
I loved Diana😘
Um, why did the narrator call Princess Diana a commoner? She was Lady Diana Spencer before marrying Prince Charles. She was an aristocrat and her father an Earl.
In British peerage, she was a commoner. The Queen mother was also a commoner since she was the daughter of a Scottish Earl.
That’s why many considered this 1981 wedding ‘progressive’ in a way since in the old days, royals could only marry other princes or princesses.
Why do people keep not getting this simple fact about Diana? 🙄
@Rhys Hoffman thanks, now I don't feel so bad anymore to be a commoner ;-)
The wonders of film footage and not tape.
Diana, única! ❤
Esta boda jamas será igualada en gloria y majestad!
In my opinion, the quintessential royal wedding
The most beautifull bridge in British Royal wedding
yozie Viena Orquia Lady Diana Beauty Queen of Royal Family
Kate was lovely to be modest and simple
I remember watching this live at 4 or 5 am. I really luved Princess Diana.
Can't stand the 're-placement'. That's the nicest way of putting it. I guess 'she' can take down the red light from above the door now.
How do you have the nerve to bring your mistrees to your...WEDDING??? WTF? Such a heartbreaking arrangement for Diana. I do see Charles perspective though. Tough on all sides. What a beautiful spirit she had that carries on.
So sad she only lived for 16 more years after this
Diana had only lived 36 years of her life.
I know she only lived 36 years. Look at what I said. She only live for 16 more years after THIS meaning her wedding day.
Wrinkled “cake”-ish dress and sour looking groom aside... this was the wedding of the century. Diana looked amazing, she really didn’t need much to look beautiful.
Loving the quality
As a foreigner, I gather that London's weather must be terrible if someone calls this "a perfect sunny day". I'd be disappointed if my summer wedding day was like this.
It didn’t rain at all on July 20th, 2023; the day of mine and Woody.EXE’s coronation here in Wales. I don’t think I’ll see such a huge crowd again until our Jubliee in 2024
Solo Diana poteva indossare un abito cosi' meraviglioso
The world came out to see Princess Diana, not the royal family
What a bloody terrible arrangement it all was. You can tell looking by Andy's face that he thinks it is all terrible. Can't believe that Camilla Shand had the nerve to attend. Chilly bunch of people.
Is good that they restored this from the original negative, such a clear and better version. :)
It was not remastered or anything, it’s just a high quality scan of what happens to be a high quality film. And the original film is most likely already a positive, because it’s not raw, it was meant for viewing and broadcast.
@@MarvinClarence Not actually because you can already convert a negative picture to positive when scanning, I think what you meant the film is likely to be a dupe negative, rather then original camera negative
@@taymur0804 Not likely. This has been narrated and added extra text, which means the film is most likely already made positive for viewing on a projector or aired on television
@@MarvinClarence In a way you nearly right, but as I'm a researcher and having great interest in history of film making, I learned that they can also shoot a separate negative of the titles and text and spliced that together with the original/dupe negative, and like when this video description clearly says 'negative' then I see no reason why this should be known as a sourced from a positive film, unless if you think that this was originally filmed on a reversal(slide) film.
@@taymur0804 What I am saying is that of course the original was a negative, but it has been edited, modified, cut, and prepped for instant viewing. Just like how films shown in the cinema aren’t negatives
Stuff that Fairy Tales are made of... Brilliant new coverage!
It looks all so very horribly artificial, not natural. This is realy old styled news coverage.
Wondering if he has forgotten the ring. 😁 How beautiful it was and what a sad ending it had later.
So we had HD pictures in 1980.

Today would have been the 39th wedding anniversary so sad when I think of this day
The song she made her entrance to was the same one I used for my entrance in my wedding. I didn't know until after I had already picked it haha.

What an beautiful royal wedding!! Btw I like the idea that British Brazil would be the most prosperous place on Earth. I feel sure that if the English had colonized Rio de Janeiro, it would have been one of the most prosperous and prettiest cities in the world. We would choose monarchy
but today people want to abolish monarchy ,they want fake communism and equality .
can anyone tell me the name of the classical piece that Diana is walking down the aisle with her father called
In parallel universe, Princess Diana live and be queen
Greetings from Ukraine 🇺🇦🤝🇬🇧
It was a mismatch from the very beginning. Diana was a love sick puppy who was insecure and immature. And Charles was in love with another woman, Mrs Camilla Parker Bowles. To make matters worse, Charles was forced into a marriage by his family and Diana was used to merely produce an heir and a spare.
👸💖💝💞🕊💌😘😘✌💞diana diana lov diana
People criticize her dress, I thought it was absolutely perfectly over the top as only she could pull off..like a giant down duvet, just want to surrender into the lavishness and billowy plush feels. Definitive fairy tale princess.
They used Panavison cameras I guess. Because it could be stil converted to 4K.
wow.... 40 years ago are you serious? 😢
I just remember the disco at the "Golden grove" Llanarthne that evening, Hmmmmmm,,,,,,,,,, good times.
I'm sitting in St. Paul's Cathedral rn
At 8:54 the Earl Spencer does exactly what most stopid men usually do.
He forgets that he is conducting the Briide and is an accessory to the service. He walks straight up the centre of the aisle, as if HE is the centre of attention, while Diana is pushed right over to the left of the carpet, which fortunately is very wide.
Father's USUALLY do this, unless they are told very sternly not to.
Prince Andrew was the best looking brother :)
IF YOU KNEW HIM - You rather would chose to be Prince Charles wife and been killed by him than to live with Prince Andrew who married that bloody amusing....
What is the song in organ when the queen enter and sit?
I was in my early teens, and watched this live. We were so pleased when they got engaged, except one of my friends. When asked why, she said she thought Diana was too young, and didn't know what she was getting into. We didn't agree at the time, but she turned out to see it more clearly than the rest of us.
I think majority of the guests can't see the wedding solemnisation ceremony clearly because they were seated far.
Diana and Catherine are what princesses are supposed to look like! Sublime. ♥️♥️♥️
