I played through this quest during BC and I was near tears by the end of it. Pamela gave me a cup of tea for saving her father and I kept it in my bank, vowing one day that I would avenge her. That day came in Wrath when I vanquished that bastard Arthas. And After I had done so, I went to Elwynn Falls and sat down and drank the cup of tea that she had given me years before and I said softly...."For Pamela."
I still have that cup of tea in my bank, where it will remain a sentimental talisman. This and Crusader Bridenbrad's quests are the only ones that really got me. Lost but not forgotten.
Man, I was in tears lol. Was a huge WC3 player and saw the scourge sweep over the land. Went right into WoW in 2004 and came across this. I wept manly tears.
Here's some lyrics for those who are interested: I've seen a great many things, that cause a man to wonder I've seen a great many things, that can tear a man's heart asunder But the day that will not let me go, it haunts me till my burning soul Is the day I found Pamela wandering Darrowshire Can you help me find my dolly, I left her by the windowsill Have you seen my daddy, I think he went out to war And can you tell my family I've been missing them for oh so very long Ask them why they'd leave me here alone Darrowshire I've found your sister, she's alive and well in Winterspring Here I've found your dolly, it's up to you to keep her safe And your father's coming home again, the war for him is over And your spirits once again may be at rest In Darrowshire In Darrowshire I've seen a great many things... In Darrowshire In Darrowshire
Pamela isn't important. She was incredibly insignificant in terms of the wow Lore. Despite that I remember the first time I encountered her like it was yesterday. I remember 2 years later when I accidentally stumbled across her again. I remember actually getting chills when I found her sister in Winterfel, wondering how the heck did she get all the way out there?? I don't remember the first time I downed Onyxia, or the 25th after they kept bringing her back over and over to rope veterans back into the game. Pamela was so unimportant that last I heard they removed her from the game. But she was SO DAMN IMPORTANT. Her story is the human story of tragedy; you don't' care what happened in the Plaguelands until you reach her and she teaches you why you SHOULD care. Her chain quest gave meaning to the entire 20 or so levels you were going to spend in that dilapidated shiholes of quest zones (E and W Plaguelands), making the grind through such a depressing place worth it. She lit a fire in you and you WANTED to kill everything that moved in revenge. Burn every Scourge base. Destroy Strath from every side. Take down Naxx. She stripped away the part of you that remained aloof and detached from "just a game" and had you keening on your emotional floor. And I know when I took down Arthas and everyone in vent was in vent was hooting and hollering and even some of them were saying, "For the Dark Lady!" (we played Horde) I quietly sad, "That's for Pamela Redpath. That's for Darrowshire." Silence on vent. Yeah, they all knew who I was talking about. We added her name to the battlecry from that day forward everytime we killed a Scourge Boss. "For Pamela! For Sylvanas! For the Sin'Dorei!"
I feel the same every time I take down Arthas. As a side note... she’s still in the game. The quest chain isn’t as lengthy, or as deep, but most of the meat and potatoes are still there if people read.
It's still there, but it got simplified so people could do it without having to spend hours farming annoying drops all over the zone and needing a party to do the actual fight. On the one hand I like that they made it more accessible, but on the other hand I feel some of the impact of the quest was lost since even at the appropriate level you can basically steamroll it. I remember the quest vividly to this day because of the effort it used to require. Before the Cataclysm, Darrowshire was a mandatory quest for me. Didn't matter how irritating the quest item farming was, and it didn't matter how brutal the battle was. Even if I had to try and solo the entire thing, I refused to leave Eastern Plaguelands until Pamela and her father were at rest.
@@dethkatmetalbaby1867 Yep. I fell out of love with WoW years ago, but I keep coming back to Darrowshire. Partly for the stories written into wow, but especially for the meaning that it had for people like the commentor that we're replying to. For so many people, mmos were skinner boxes. But for some, they were worlds with stories like Pamela's.
I still cant walk into Strath or Plaguelands to this day without thinking of both this questline and your song Cranius. Brilliantly done, you capture in both video and in your voice the Heroism and Tragedy that is war.
This song makes me remember when quest chains were actually interesting. Like the Stalvan's Curse questline in Duskwood, the quest to get the key to unlock the optional boss in Sunken Temple, or even Mankrik's wife! I talk about those quest chains and not the ones to unlock raids like Onyxia or Karazhan because back then they also cared a lot about leveling, not just end-game stuff. Sure, Cataclysm brought great things with the remodeling of Azeroth, some of the quest chains were very good like "The day Deathwing came..." but they don't have... let's call it feeling. The quest chain of Darrowshire was touching as hell, worthy of shedding manly tears. There was a quest chain in Zul'Drak where you had to kill a troll boss AND HIS FAMILY. That quest was quite disturbing. Let's hope the quests in Draenor are as good as the ones in Azeroth many years ago.
The Legend of Stalvan was pretty dark too. A tutor to a girl who ended up getting feelings for her and everything going very south. I mean, read into it enough and it's basically a grown man had feelings for a minor and wound up killing her family. Imagine them trying to make a quest like that today lol
I had pretty much forgotten this - I came back for WoTLK, and to reminisce the days, I put on some Cranius. Get my main and big blue dress, for the hype to go by levelling. Then I saw this thumbnail, couldn't quite remember it, but damn did it get me. What a piece.
Dear Cranius, Something occured to me very recently. If not for this song and video, this most excellent quest might have become forgotten. Relegated to the dark corners of a Wiki page only to be found by those bored enough to see what used to be. Thank you for keeping this quest and all of its glory alive.
I'm playing on the private Excalibur TBC server, and I'm making it my goal to revisit that zone and do this quest chain. It's one of the few things that make WoW such a great game.
That's one of the great glorious moments of any MMO - ever! You can hate or love WoW as much you like, but that questline was really something to remember. Goodl old vanilla days. Great music an vid.
8 people saw this videa and the pure musical genius grabbed their heart right out from their chests and they couldn't see that this song is so so so touching and beautiful.
10 years since this video came. 10 years. And I still find myself choking up at it. The ghost of tears form "Seen a great many things, that can tear a man's heart asunder." But damn me, I near lose it every time, I hear "she's alive and well in Winterspring."
such an amazing song. makes my eyes wet every time i listen to it. i remember this quest myself and how i got sad over the poor little girl that lost her teddy :( ah! the memories! thanks man for making this song. it is my all time favorite!
This quest line was really. The song is amazing, especially for all of us that did the original quest line pre-bc/wrath. Thank you. I hope there are more videos to come.
Been leveling a druid to 80, started this quest-line up again. This quest line makes EPL worth it to level in/go back to. Great job on video cranius, make this quest even more memorable.
Thank you for posting this widescreen version. I found the original version some months ago, and it compelled me to complete this quest line, and I'm so glad I didn't miss it. I'll be doing the quest with every toon I level. You're incredibly talented... and that's putting it mildly. Thanks for sharing your talent with us. I truly hope you'll post more of your work.
I admit it. I cried the first time I watched this. And all five of us cried when we did the Battle of Darrowshire questline. No one else could capture the spirit of this poignant series of quests. Kudos to you, Cranius. You are amazing. ~Trinea from Moon Guard RP server.
This quest line is my favorite in the game. I might be just an emotional girl but I cry every time I play through. You truly made an epic short movie here.
Oh my goodness. This was so well put together. The music, the vocals, the visuals: everything was so nicely done. But I really needed tissues afterward. Nicely done.
Amazing video, really. A lot of people ignore plot and things like quest descriptions, so a lot of people don't know how amazing some of the stories are. Yet Blizzard still makes them good, and hopefully more awesome stuff like this can be made. When someone asked me about a lack of plot in WoW, this was the first thing to come to mind, and almost immediately got linked.
I emailed Cranius on his website and he says he's working on an album which will include this song. No matter how many times I listen to this, it still chokes me up and I recently re-did the quest chain just to see the ghostly reunion.
Wow, just...awesome. I've watched Nyhm's vids, Druidboyz, Gigi, etc, and I've enjoyed most of them, but wow, this one tops em all. This is the only one I've heard which would be awesome even as a standalone song, without knowing anything about the source material. Great work, period.
This brings me back... Nostalgia. What a bittersweet feeling. Although I will never go back to WoW, the years I had in the game along with my friends were great. I regret nothing. :)
I never played pre-TBC so i never got the chance to level in plaugelands, so it was really nice going back and doing some of the quests there now including this one, although not a challenge for a level 80, i really enjoyed doing them. This video and song represents the questline brilliantly, and is just a great song in general... Nice work Cranius!
Have you ever had tears in your eyes because of a movie or a book? What is so different when the same happens about a storyline in a video game? It is still a story, and the way Cranius is singing really stings. And I ain't afraid of saying just how the video makes me feel.
This song has been playing over and over in my head since I first watched this video a few days ago. And to those out there that don't believe it, yes, there are females that play wow. I am one of them. I plan on doing this quest line sometime today as soon as maintenance is over. Thank you Cranius for sharing your talent with us through a truely awesome and tear jerking video. I had to share it with all of my friends. Now they are addicted to WoW as well ^_^ My work here is done lol.
I watched this video a while back while waiting for the servers to come back up from maintenance...I couldn't wait for them to be back up so I could finish this questline. I had skipped it at level because it was a raid quest and I was flyin solo. By the time I got there, the battle had already been started and was bugged out because whoever started it failed. They restarted the servers due to problems later that day and I went back. Had this playing the whole time. Love the song and the lore.
When the quest still had you go see her uncle and he said "You've seen Pamela? She's alive? She's dead? No! Oh, Pamela! Why does your spirit still suffer in this world. Why are you perished, while fortune keeps me alive? In an instant I would switch places with you and wander dead Darrowshire, a ghost and alone!" That quote struck a cord in my heart.
I have yet to finish this questline with a single one of my toons, but now I really, really want to. I think I'll get some of my friends together and dedicate my weekend to it. Thank you, Cranius - A friend from Feathermoon
Wow, you've really got some talent there! Especially musically! I'm barely even into WoW, and it was still quite touching and the music is beautiful enough and evocative enough that it can stand on its own even; it actually sounds like it could be an old folk tune lost in the sands of time.
Hey there! I've come back to watch Darrowshire yet again, and to let you know my copy of your CD is making its way to me from Amazon even now. Grats on the fantastic reception to your 2009 Blizzcon entry, too. I loved it! Best to you and your muse! - Telsek, Crushridge - US
Mystery of the Infinite It was so amazing because you could see Nozdormu for the first time. And you saw yourself in a reflection talking to you and making jokes. That was for me the best quest you could play!!
I agree with a previous comment- this song is powerful, even if you don't know the basis for it. But knowing warcraft and the quest just... just makes it all that more emotional.
i just made that whole darrowshire chain, was awesome and listening to this great song at the same time made it even more awesome :D this is just great!
Yeah if you breezed through the 60's like so many did, I highly recommend going back and doing this quest line. It really is cool. This video will be 75% more cool to you if you do. And this is one of the best originals ever made for WoW. Cranius you pwn. :)
Really good video, even better song. Some things you find in the old world completely destroy the storytelling from the new bits of the game. I wish this quality of storyline was still around. Great Job, keep it up :)
It's not too different, it's just everything is localised now. Chromie and the uncle Redpath have been moved closer and now you don't have to run around for the records.
Lol I was in darrowshire last night and it reminded me of this song. I haven't listened to it in a decade but can still sing the lyrics spot on like I never stopped 😂
I remember this quest well, was in a hardcore raiding guild. Busy with Naxxramas 40, however I was never able to finish this quest. Heck, I was a healing priest, and all the sudden.. my guild master invited me in a group with a few other guild mates.. out of the blue.. helping me out. WoW was all about social connections back then...
man classic WoW had the best storylines. nothing now comes even close to it. Side note- in Culling of Stratholm if you go upstairs at the inn the Redpaths are there.
Certainly do, I'd give anything just to be able to see it as it was and walk through its halls. As for this video, well it's simply brilliant. The quest line is easily my favourite in Azeroth. It defines poignant.
Cheers Cranius, for the great song :) I wish you make more like these or the Ulduar song.. which are great. and @Veel0n I think the q chain is not present in Cata due to the changes in the zone. Haven't played in the beta, but will indeed miss this q chain if it goes away.
it is fantastic... thank you for imersing yourself so deeply. I love the story like that. I keep trying to take a toon from story to story but I get destracted. LOL... fantastic vid. Makes me cry every damn time. Congratz on your nuptules... you share an interest that is intesnse if nothing else... A match made in heaven.
I was very happy when i was leveling my Holy Cow in EPL to see that they kept this questline, and that it didn't require a bloody raid group anymore ^^

Here's some lyrics for those who are interested:

I've seen a great many things, that can tear a man's heart asunder
But the day that will not let me go, it haunts me till my burning soul
Is the day I found Pamela wandering

Can you help me find my dolly, I left her by the windowsill
Have you seen my daddy, I think he went out to war
And can you tell my family I've been missing them for oh so very long
Ask them why they'd leave me here alone
Darrowshire
I've found your sister, she's alive and well in Winterspring
Here I've found your dolly, it's up to you to keep her safe
And your father's coming home again, the war for him is over
And your spirits once again may be at rest
In Darrowshire
In Darrowshire
I've seen a great many things...
In Darrowshire
In Darrowshire
Every time it gets to "And your father's coming home again, the war for him is over" i feel a shiver run all through me.
Amazing.
After all these years, still makes me smile and kinda sad

Yall gotta have goosebumps when you lisen to this. I herd it about 9 times now and i still get them
that song still makes me shiver
This quest line made me cry.. and pamela scared the crap outta me when i had discovered her as i was exploring the area.. /sigh the good ol' times..
Next to the Wrathgate quest line, I loved this one. It was very sad and it honestly made me feel bad for them all.
that quest always kinda tugged on my heart strings
Wow, that brings those quests back! Beautiful vid, great song. Really fine stuff, thanks for sharing it.
I agree with a previous comment- this song is powerful, even if you don't know the basis for it. But knowing warcraft and the quest just... just makes it all that more emotional.
i just made that whole darrowshire chain, was awesome and listening to this great song at the same time made it even more awesome :D this is just great!
I made this quest today and find your music. Its greatfull, thanks a lot for make this, i love your song!!
Yeah if you breezed through the 60's like so many did, I highly recommend going back and doing this quest line. It really is cool. This video will be 75% more cool to you if you do. And this is one of the best originals ever made for WoW. Cranius you pwn. :)
Achievement (100 feels) Cried from the Darrowshires' sorrowful quest line.
Really good video, even better song. Some things you find in the old world completely destroy the storytelling from the new bits of the game. I wish this quality of storyline was still around.
Great Job, keep it up :)
One of my favorite quests. Love this!
this was epic cranius >> gave me chills
Quest is still there, but very much shortened...wish I could do the old version still
It's not too different, it's just everything is localised now. Chromie and the uncle Redpath have been moved closer and now you don't have to run around for the records.
Tim Mitton Not too different besides having to have a 40 man raid to help you to do the quest
Lol I was in darrowshire last night and it reminded me of this song. I haven't listened to it in a decade but can still sing the lyrics spot on like I never stopped 😂
that's what wow is all about...those little tidbits you get from exploring and doing the quests for the lore
Cranius are the best ! Dude please more songs !
Fantastic work especially the instrumentals
man classic WoW had the best storylines. nothing now comes even close to it.
Haven't played in the beta, but will indeed miss this q chain if it goes away.
greatest questline ever actually touching aswell
it is fantastic... thank you for imersing yourself so deeply. I love the story like that. I keep trying to take a toon from story to story but I get destracted. LOL... fantastic vid. Makes me cry every damn time.
Congratz on your nuptules... you share an interest that is intesnse if nothing else... A match made in heaven.
forgot to add, love this song. listening everyday
I did it last week, the quest is definitively there.
I was very happy when i was leveling my Holy Cow in EPL to see that they kept this questline, and that it didn't require a bloody raid group anymore ^^
i love this!! your so much better than nyhm. you actually make up your own music and lyrics
/cry!
Saddest quest ever. Well, one of them, anyways. That was excellently done and beautifully sung. *standing ovation*
