- An easy, beginner crochet blanket designed for Red Heart Granny Square All In One yarn. Go with the flow of color changes- no cutting or controlling colors needed. Just relax, double crochet, and let the stripes create their magic. A beautiful valley down the center of the blanket. You can almost see a river running through it!
Use 3 skeins of yarn for a small throw or child's blanket, or 4 skeins of yarn for an adult-sized throw. The sample blanket used 3 skeins of Red Heart Granny Square All In One yarn in the Soft White - Frigid colorway.

Hook: 6.5 mm
Skill level: beginner/easy
Stitches: Chain and double crochet in US terms. The chain stitch is only needed for the starting row. The rest of the blanket is double crochet stitches.

From the videos I’ve been watching showing how this yarn crochets up into a granny square… it looks very frustrating. Not sure what I am doing wrong. My 110 chains with a 6.5 mm hook comes out to about 40” but then by row 3 I’m at like 46” I’m using my normal tension…..I tried using a 6mm hook and that was only 36” at most. So then I tried a combination of 6mm for chain, and 6.5 for the dc’s. And still super long…..guess I have to play round with it more…..
Did you start with a chain or foundation double crochets?

Absolutely! I would make a granny rectangle, then sew or crochet the ends together lengthwise for a few inches to make the arm holes.
At the end of the row, chain 3 then do I turn and begin in the first stitch?
The chain 3 counts as a stitch, so you would crochet into the next stitch to start the row. In other words, don't crochet into the stitch just below the chain 3- crochet into the next one.
