Foden is the definition of a system player
Isn’t every player, whoever the manager is, Jose Klopp Pep they all make players play to their system.

Bellingham needs to play alongside rice. It's so obvious. The lad is fantastic, he's got a bit of everything, and importantly for that 6 / 8 position he loves a tackle and has a brilliant engine

Hilarious listening to Goldstein talking about how “everyone” talked about this and that about players and positions and selections. When it’s the likes of him and other pundits and media bringing that stuff up.
Foden is not earning his place... it is that simple. On form and balance, Rice and Bellingham deep, Palmer in front, Sake and Gordon with width, and Kane up top. Bring Foden on and have him force his way back in.

I just think Foden is what he is. He is simply not a #10 type of player. He seemingly has the technique of a #10, but I don't think he has the brain or that final ball that every #10 should have in his arsenal. He'll either need to become more of a #8 or a second strike type.
How can a player heralded as the best on the team by a country mile produce 4 goals in 42 appearances. Even his criticism is blaming other people. I’ve not heard Bellingham or Saka spoken about with this much empathy and gentleness. I wonder why ?

Pep has managed a plethora of players who did wonders even in his absence, buquest, iniesta, Messi but because foden don’t perform outside pep it has to be pep’s fault 😂
Some key differences though. Iniesta and Messi had already played under Rijkaard for a number of seasons before Pep took over. Unless I'm mistaken, at club level Foden has only been managed by Pep and Southgate for country.
With regards to Busquets and Iniesta, Spain played a fairly similar style to their club so they didn't really have to change that much. Whereas Foden is going from Pep to Southgate which is night and day in terms of differences. Same things were said about Messi for a long time. People used to say he can only perform at Barcelona. Foden isn't the first nor will he be the last player to be brought up in these discussions.

If England had the best three goalkeepers in world football they would not all be in the team. That's an extreme example, to highlight that each position in a team is a specific role and only the best player at that role should be picked and in the team. The best number 10 plays.The second best number 10 does not play in another position. That's the 'golden rule' of picking a team.

Personally I think Foden is a lot more creative that Bellingham and would do better than him in the 10. Bellingham is an athletic and strong player whos good with the ball at his feet and could be as good as an 8

I didn't want to respond to this debate being a City Fan, but I have to say it was only a matter of time before Foden was the Scape Goat.
This issue with England has been going on for years, with regards trying to get all the top players in the team.
I remember the whole debacle with Glenn Hoddle under Greenwood.
Now I'm not saying Foden has been the dogs for England, but he is not the only one.
A great manager will find a way to incorporate the best players in the England team, who that manager is I don't know, but he must be creative, structured, respected, and allow talented players to play with confidence.
Me personally I would give it to Zinedene Zidane.
The top player in a position should be picked. The second top player in that same position should be on the bench and not be given a different position just to get him in the team. That's the mistake that continues to be made by England managers. I agree with you.

Context or no context, there is no reason Foden should have such low output for England. We know the real reason, hes a player made to look much better than he is in Peps system.
He has the same amount of goals for England, as Declan Rice LOL
England national team has never been good at getting the most out of their most technically gifted players. See John Barnes, Matt Le Tissier, Paul Scholes, Paul Gascoigne, Glenn Hoddle. They should have built their teams around these players, but these players got less caps than they ought to have.

England managers never have strength to make choices. Chelsea are a good example to follow: chose then let them compete. Not rocket science. Need Palmer in place of Foden, in 10-right Bellingham to left (in Enzo Chelsea role) which frees up centre forward instead.
Good point we can tweak the team all day long, but we do not have world class players , and until that message is born out they won't fight and an iceland performance is just a game away
@@Lambert-k8u I don't think the issue is particularly the quality of our players but more the mentality of them and our managers and let's be honest us fans. Expectation is a delusion that you can win before kicking a ball. We have players that are technically as gifted as any in the world (for most part, sometimes better). Foden isn't bad but he needs others to shine. Palmer, Bellingham, Watkins, Rice, sometimes Kane, maybe Godren and Madueke 2.0, will carry their team over glass and any finish line, given half the chance. Foden, Arnold, and the rest are not made of the same stuff. They are luxury items, like the absurd LV manbags the all carry. That's why some players have to play and should only rotate. The England fail is too many luxury players not enough winners. Or playing two players when only room for one. England have never fielded a properly balance coherent team. Not once. The good news is: if you can get to two finals without it, imagine what some basic back page resistent management could accomplish.

People are very conveniently ignoring that Bellingham has 5 goals and 4 assists in his last 12 caps. The reality is online culture gangs up on players who reach the highest levels and hold players like Bellingham to impossible standards. It’s not unique to Bellingham but he’s definitely in that category now.
That's just it that's why you can't replace them with foden and palmer we all can't lie palmer is the best one right now out of them but you can't take out Bellingham you can't just he just had that Madrid aura

The only time he's turned up for England was in the 2017 final where he put in a motm performance to inspire the comeback... other than that, he's been a major disappointment on the international stage!

Some players have adaptability, they are able to be put in a team and do a job. Palmer has shown this recently, Bellingham also. Foden we have seen is great when he is in the best team in the land with all the possession but for England he clearly cannot make that step and be adaptable to new players and new systems. 40 odd caps and 4 goals isnt good enough. The only reason he is in the team is because City, if he was at Brentford scoring the same amount of goals in the league he would have been dropped ages ago.
It was the same with Hoddle who in my opinion was are most naturally talented player with have ever had (better then Gazza) . Also barnes and waddle were up there as well but never used right with England
It makes me crazy people not understand that out of the number 10s, jude is the worst. Yes, last season he had a good for madrid, but he was more a second striker. But his best position is number 8. I love jude, but these managers gonna make everyone hate him. Jude is a 90-minute work horse in midfield. im tired of him being just a guy that can score, palmer, foden , saka, even Gordon can score crucial goals. What people dont understand is that jude has a clean-up crew for madrid, but him in the 10 for England doesn't work. And it's infuriating that these managers, ex players, either want to suck him into oblivion or don't understand that he can not nit play.

We overate our players and when they turn up to play for the national team that don't perform and after Foden was rated world class his form dipped dramatically and it showed in both the FA Cup final and euros.

Foden is still young, he's what 24. He's got so many years left him. Southgate didn't use him properly and played him out of position on the left wing. Lee Carsely is still new to the job and therefore he still has to know his best xi in the right positions in attack. If coarsely stays then he'll definitely try to get the best of foden positionally but you he has to play in the 10 or right wing.

Whilst Kane is playing, Foden best position is off the right. Unfortunately Saka has that place.

Simple Foden is lazy and is too lightweight, doesn’t work hard and when given a free role he still doesn’t produce. Foden has always been rubbish on the Senior stage since the summer Under 21 tournament England didn’t get out of the group stage. He is not good enough for International football.
