Man, love the video but i gotta disagree, Gadunka was the first titan set where i felt like they actively tried to get articulation and stability right. They actually reinforce all the joints that need extra strength, like in the leg (and it's ALL reinforced, no weak points) or the neck. Back in the days those joints would be a lot more stable generally, but i get why the brittle pieces make this set frustrating today.
Yeah I dont understand why getting worn or broken parts reflects on the model itself. Feel like the right thing to do would be to get another in good condition or replace the subpar parts, then give the actual set a fair review

Gadunka was my first titan set, and that's probably why I'm biased towards loving it. Many of the points you mentioned have to do with piece stability, but mine were great, they never broke and after all these years they still hold enough friction to pose the arms and head in any angle I like. I love the head design with those moving jaws and tongue, the upper leg design with added friction and also the body, with all those inika torsos slapped together. For its originality, Holy Gadunka gets a 8.3 to me. Not as great in terms of poseability and playability as the more humanoid sets, but a great Rahi nonetheless.
I loved the construction of this set in its theory, the torso build was just immaculate. But unfortunately maybe mine was just in bad condition. That being said the neck design, which bridges the most significant part of the model to the rest of the body, just is a failed design
this was one of my favorites, got it for christmas as a kid and I remember cutting and peeking into the wrapping paper and being so excited to see the box art lol
I know this video is a year old but I have to say, my Gadunka that I got second-hand doesn't have any stability issues, all his joints are strong and hold themselves up just fine. I think you're were just very unlucky. I believe you misassembled him because his neck and leg articulation shouldn't be very limited
So I found this channel a few weeks ago and I've binge watched all of the bionicle reviews. So good, covers everything you could ask a reviewer to cover. I noticed that there has been a month without any word from this channel. So I just wanted to say I hope everything is going alright with Christian. I never really thought Gadunka's head was supposed to rotate. Of course, I say that as someone who never owned the set. I never was interested in him as a set, but as an entity in the lore I thought he was quite intimidating.
I feel very much the same way. Gadunka always was a set that seemed more like an oddity than anything else to me, and while I can see why some people might think he's cool (which he kinda sorta is, in a weird way), I was never personally interested in him myself. The other titans were for the most part strong sets, and Gadunka and Nocturn were the only 2 I never owned back in the day, with the latter being the one I more regret not getting my hands on when I was able to
I've never heard anyone be so harsh to poor Gadunka. I absolutely think you just got an unusually bad one, because I never had any of those problems aside from maybe the arms not holding upward well (an issue shared by almost all titans). And we disassembled and assembled our Gadunka numorous times over the years, so the joints had plenty of opportunity to wear out and break but it still didn't give us any trouble at all. Your Gadunka is just a bad egg and really doesn't do the set justice. It's definitely not a bad set at all under normal circumstances.
man you mounted the torso the wrong way, it's a lot sell unstable like that, the metru matoran armor have to be in the front. built in the right way it has a bit more stability and looks cooler
I've found with my set if you splay out the legs into a bit of a squat and push the head back a bit the stability improves a lot as you move the massive of the head closer to the centre and the ground.
My original childhood interest in Bionicle faded after 2007 (which I regret), so this video feels a bit bittersweet to me. Gadunka probably has the coolest design I've seen, but that neck looks unstable!
If I had to guess, I would think that the problem is mainly that the head is too big for the neck to support properly. I know it probably sounds obvious, but I do think that if the neck was better supported it could've held up the wait of his gigantic head more easily, which at least would've given him a little more possability, even if his proportions are weird
Holy Gadunka! Another underrated titan. Really interesting, cool and really cute rahi. I really enjoy assembling him everytime I clean him! x) Did you enjoyed 2007? again, as my favorite year, I really enjoyed watching your reviews and made me happy and proud of having most of the sets! Happy that this review came out! This was my first Mahri set and by far the most fun set. might not be a Maxilos/Spinax or Hydraxon, but the details are amazing
@@AllOutBrick yeah i do understand, even some of my pieces broke (the black cup joint suprisingly as well). out of curiosity, do you plan to view the bionicle system sets and the combo models for mahri nui?
Gadunka! It's just a cool set, and seeing your issues I think a lot of them would be fixed by angling the two blue neck pieces perpendicular to the torso pieces. This lets you raise his head higher up which solves/helps with a number of problems you're having with the set. Also any set that uses a Pythagorean Triple gets a bonus in my book.
@@AllOutBrick Look at the torsos, their angling is caused by 3-4-5 right triangles with the right angle where the pinhole cross is. Also keep in mind that you have to measure from the _centers_ of pins, as that's where the vertices are, so with that error it'll be 4-5-6 pin holes. The Thornatus V9 has a similar technique so something to look forward to there...
I think you built the torso the wrong way around. If I recall correctly, the metru Matoran torso piece should be towards the front. This may have also been a contributing factor in the breaking of the neck joints. My Gadunka doesn't have any of the problems mentioned in the review, unfortunately I think you got unlucky and your set wasn't in good condition probably.
YES, IT'S HERE! Gadunka was a set I saved money up for a long time! The only issue I have with it is the squid launcher, and that's just a personal thing! I can always switch it out for something else on this big shark puppy!
I always loved this set since I saw it in the Mahri commercial. I finally got it for myself about two years ago. Haven't experienced most of the issues that you describe honestly. The navy blue neck pieces are as sturdy as they have been when I got the set. I always grabbed Gadunka by those neck pieces to lift him up when I was posing or moving him. Managing the legs properly is indeed kinda hard, but I got it to work fine in a squatting position. The arms do indeed sag though, kinda unfortunate. Not saying that I disagree with your experiences and the review per se. It's unfortunate that your experience with Gadunka has been so poor. I personally love the set for just being very unique and creatively designed and don't mind some of the issues that much, but that's subjective to everyone.
The polybags felt a little too small to do full reviews on, so I never got around to stocking up on them. Good Guy may need to make an appearance though
This channel is the only channel that has videos that I look forward to watching every week. Also will you ever review the tie fighter that's always in the backround?
My Gadunka has been standing up with his head forward, arms up, and fingers out for like more than a decade lol Got him when he came out. Too scared to take apart and rebuild some of my older sets in case any pieces are more likely to break from time. Didn't have any broken pieces when I got it. Wish Lego kept making all the original pieces for us to order replacements
Looking back, it's wild to think about how lucky I was to receive most of the Titan sets from this and the previous few seasons. I'm sorry to hear you had joint stability issues with ol' 'Dunky, as I never had the same issue. I think this is one of the most unique sets ever to come out of the franchise. What a chunkmaster of a build, with a posable face as its primary draw! How friggin' cool is that? I've always thought they could have given him a slightly more embellished foot build, a-la Brutaka, but overall it still worked for me. The only real downside I experienced was that my mom thought the name was silly and would make fun of it even a long time after this season.
One of the few titan sets I never got my hands on With that unique head piece, building one from parts wouldn't be an option Mahri Nui arc really did have the best designs
I was binging this series just now for nostalgia, and when you mentioned the fragility of the navy technic socket joints, I will add that I own Hydraxon, Maxilos and Spinax, and Gadunka, and only Gadunka was never rebuilt because so many of the pieces are cracked or broken. It's a shame, since his head mold is awesome, but it was too expensive to replace all the parts, and he was my least favorite of the three, anyway. I can recall the first time I built him back when I was eight, and even then, I remember him being hard to pose because he'd just fall over. I still have a soft spot for him, though, since I used him to attack my Aqua Raiders base and eat all the poor divers. He'll just have to live on in my memory.
While this toy isn't my favorite, the glow in the dark piece is one of my all time favorites. I remember creating my own titan combination model from the 6 titan sets, and combined Karzahni's head with that piece. It looked wicked.
What I noticed is that american sets break easier. European sets of course have the same problem with lime and 2008 joints, but I feel like american sets lose friction and break easier. Over the years I bought almost the entire collection from a ton of sources, and none of them break or lose friction as much as I see in videos. And yet when I bought a Lesovikk from over the sea, the pieces seem to break without me even touching them, they just randomly fall apart.
Interesting! I never thought of that correlation, but that's something to think about. The Toa Mahri I believe I obtained overseas and had no issues with Hahli, but did have issues with Ehlek and Gadunka, who were purchased in the US
I got the set used back in 2016 and I will admit then some parts need replacing or cleaning up. It doesn't have a lot of strong poses but it still has a very good presence. And you give a lot of credit, This product didn't have to exist but it does add more to the world in ways that other years didn't cover as its own set and usually made up for in combo models.
I remember receiving Gadunka as an early holiday gift on X'mas eve in 2007. He is the only other set to have those double socket joints in Mata blue, apart from Sukkorak (the white Visorak). I had both of these, and never had the issue of that part breaking. Some other rare elements are the Hordika lower arms in Mata blue-which are exclusive, and this is the final set to have the Technic 3x5 curved half beam in that color. The 7M beam in that color will appear in one other Bionicle set later on though. Gadunka is the first Titan to have the Bohrok eyes in transparent fluorescent green, and the "Voodoo Arms" comprising the lower jaw only appear in an "Agents" set (8637) after this in 2008 before being retired. The clawed Piraka foot in Metru red (new dark red) will appear one more time in '08 as well. This set is the final appearance of the Inika shoulder armor, hand socket and Toa Metru double socket joint and Metru Nui Matoran torso in Metru blue (earth blue)-and of that piece all together. The Rahkshi legs, Vahki legs and Inika torso in Metru blue will not appear again until '09 though, as is also the case for the webbed Piraka foot in silver. This and Karzahni are also among the final sets to have the original mold of the socket joints which had been around since the "Slizer/Throwbot" theme from '99, as the errors with the lime joints (though I strangely don't remember having that problem) would prompt a redesign of them in the next year...
great review even tho i must say i dont agree w ur heavy critique! gadunka is imo one of the most unique looking and overall best sets released by bionicle. yes stability is a little issue sometimes but i think the head piece, teeth, size, colorsceme literaly everything else makes up for it and then some! the barraki were my favorite sets mostly beacuse they introduced a lot of organic and biological looking pieces, but i think gadunka takes it to a new level in that department. When growing up i could just imagine him roaring from the bottom of the ocean and he is to this day an s tier set in my book
The look of the finished set is great! None of the issues I ran into were with the look of the set, I loved that. But due to the fragile pieces, poor neck design, and instability of the final model, the lack of playability simply makes it a flawed set for me
Cool idea with the teeth. Glow in the dark armor. It's easy to get, what LEGO had in mind with this design, it reminds you instantly of those deepsea fish like viperfish, anglerfish or fangtooth. Seems cool. But what do we get here? A hollow jaw with four limbs. In the end as awkward, as it sounds.
what a unique set, my boyfriend got it for me a while back because I always thought the design was interesting and i loved it but god the instructions and unique build confused me sometimes!
@@AllOutBrick Oh, I think it was less of an issue with the instructions, and more just my own confusion at the unconventional build, before it started to really come together and make sense, but thank you!
@@AllOutBrick you have the torso mounted wrong, the belly is on the back and the back with the squids was on teh front. this makes it unstable and not as good looking
I’d like it if you did Hero Factory reviews as well. For the faults it had, objectively and perceived, it was a pretty cool line! A lot of the sets still hold up nicely
Gadunka is another one I picked up more recently via Bricklink. I have to say I never had any issues with its parts breaking on my side. The build felt kind of odd to me and I have to say I wasn't particularly impressed with it. I don't think I really cared too much about it back in 2007 either. :/
I remember this being one of my favorite sets as a kid, don't ever remember joints for mine breaking a ton, don't remember the stability being an issue either, I seriously don't remember this being a bad set lol
Been waiting on this one!! Gadunka was one of my favorites i would take of his squid launcher.. I never had problem posing him or having his arms over head or broken pieces!! Im sorry he put so much stress on you
I live in the Caribbean and the heat here has been a disaster for these aging Bionicle parts. I noticed that the long socket pieces were the ones to break first regardless of year, build or pose and I theorize that those pieces are more fragile than the others but it wasn't as noticeable as the lime joints, nor did it rear its head until after the line was done. In future I would look at where you get your sets from, if its from a hot region chances are those long joints are cracked. Great review, 6.2 is appropriate for Gadunka and I fully expect 2008 and onwards to have loads of similar scores because of the repetitive builds and fragile parts.
Definitely thought Gadunka would be rated higher but those are some big flaws, can't blame you for being disappointed. Still tho 2007 was a great year overall.
Had this thing back in the day, as well as all the other sets. This was peak bionicle. After this the sets were not bad, but they just felt more bland. I wish they would bring the series back and revamp the old sets as well as make new ones.
LEGO in 2007: “Hey frank!” “What?” “They asked me to make one more titan set for this year. I’ve built the head but we don’t have the budget for the rest of the body!” “I have an idea.” “What?” “What if you take this head...and slap some arms and legs on it.”
Oh gadunka, such a unique titan set even if he did little to the plot.

This channel is the only channel that has videos that I look forward to watching every week. Also will you ever review the tie fighter that's always in the backround?
Thank you!! Honestly probably not at this point, that review is way overdue 🤣
One of the few titan sets I never got my hands on
With that unique head piece, building one from parts wouldn't be an option
Mahri Nui arc really did have the best designs
And you give a lot of credit, This product didn't have to exist but it does add more to the world in ways that other years didn't cover as its own set and usually made up for in combo models.
one of the titan sets i didn't get but almost got him at a Grocery Outlet Store
But due to the fragile pieces, poor neck design, and instability of the final model, the lack of playability simply makes it a flawed set for me
HOLY GADUNKA!!
Where do you buy the brand new sets even though they came out years ago?
Internet
Likely bricklink.
At insane prices though.
WATCH OUT HE'S ARMED!!!
Will you be continuing these videos?
I had this as a child and I don't remember it falling forward or anything breaking. But maybe I didn't pay so much attention back then.
Why did you replace titan with warrior in your script?
Strange, for me the lime joints kept shattering. My Gadunka is still very much intact.
My friend has Gadunka and as far as I know, there aren't any stability problems and the head is somewhat articulated
I've been waiting for this one harder than I waited for the kardas dragon
Cool idea with the teeth. Glow in the dark armor. It's easy to get, what LEGO had in mind with this design, it reminds you instantly of those deepsea fish like viperfish, anglerfish or fangtooth. Seems cool. But what do we get here? A hollow jaw with four limbs. In the end as awkward, as it sounds.
Can’t wait to see you trying out the Karda Nui battle vehicles, some of my favorite sets
Oh you have no idea how pumped I am for them
what a unique set, my boyfriend got it for me a while back because I always thought the design was interesting and i loved it but god the instructions and unique build confused me sometimes!
What a guy!! Sorry to hear about the instructions issues, I can't remember if I ran into any or not...
@@AllOutBrick
Oh, I think it was less of an issue with the instructions, and more just my own confusion at the unconventional build, before it started to really come together and make sense, but thank you!
@@AllOutBrick you have the torso mounted wrong, the belly is on the back and the back with the squids was on teh front. this makes it unstable and not as good looking
I didn’t know this one had a set until I saw it online , I used to watch the cinematic trailer a lot of times
It does!
I’d like it if you did Hero Factory reviews as well.
For the faults it had, objectively and perceived, it was a pretty cool line!
A lot of the sets still hold up nicely
"A lot of sets" is a fun way of telling "Von Nebula and Rotor" ;)
We'll see!
If you think Gadunka's bad, hoo boy. Next year, all the sockets are fragile. That's gonna be interesting to see.
I got a bad feeling about this
I remember as a kid i loved this set, just because its blue and THE name. Come to think of it the blue pieces broke a lot :(
Nah nah nah, this peice is stable asf don't listen to this guy.
Holy gadunka. Literally.
Glad I bought gadunka brand new for 40$
Gadunka is another one I picked up more recently via Bricklink. I have to say I never had any issues with its parts breaking on my side. The build felt kind of odd to me and I have to say I wasn't particularly impressed with it. I don't think I really cared too much about it back in 2007 either. :/
I just got Gadunka and i love him and i just realised, You build Gadunka's torso completely backward.
hey how you bought that??
I remember this being one of my favorite sets as a kid, don't ever remember joints for mine breaking a ton, don't remember the stability being an issue either, I seriously don't remember this being a bad set lol
fr fr this set was goated for sure
He's got the torso backwards and wrong color pieces so the review's moot
Love the videos, but hard disagree on the cons. Maybe I got the one good batch but I've never had any issues with stability or breakages
Dude don't tell me you're stoping now!!!! You have 2 years left to cover. COME ON!
Been waiting on this one!! Gadunka was one of my favorites i would take of his squid launcher.. I never had problem posing him or having his arms over head or broken pieces!! Im sorry he put so much stress on you
More stress was on the joints than me even still!
"You make Kongu look handsome!"
-Hewkii, 2007
Had this thing back in the day, as well as all the other sets. This was peak bionicle. After this the sets were not bad, but they just felt more bland. I wish they would bring the series back and revamp the old sets as well as make new ones.
LEGO in 2007: “Hey frank!” “What?” “They asked me to make one more titan set for this year. I’ve built the head but we don’t have the budget for the rest of the body!” “I have an idea.” “What?” “What if you take this head...and slap some arms and legs on it.”
That's how the meeting went down, can confirm
Gadunka is a goofy fella. We love Gadunka
