    The spirit of Ireland and Scotland is a cry for freedom and a dance for victory. Aye. I wept. I wept in memory and in honor of those who fought for their independence. I wept for the little ones who have suffered the burden of war. I wept for the meek who have been robbed of their justice. Aye. I wept for the Lord and His undying love. Thank you for uploading this majestic video that we may search deeply our conscience and our soul to find the answer. Aye. The answer is love always. Amen

    ln heartfelt memory to all those who innocently and sadly died during the "troubles" in N. lreland - let this gloriously traditional lrish piece of Celtic music be an accompanying backdrop to "the fallen", whoever they may be, soul-searchingly reaching out for everlasting peace on both sides of the religious divide, forever moving forward together and not ever daring to look back, in times and immorial. RIP

    Haunting spiritual music from the Celtic ancestral soul that speaks across time directly to our soul and spirit. Our soul cry tears and our spirit spreads wings to soar to new divine heights of enlightenment and understanding all at the same time.
    The language of the soul which breaches the great mystery to speak the unspeakable and understand the incomprehensible that which words can not express.
    From the Celts this is truly a great gift of spiritual story telling to us all. Blissful.

    It's called the Uillean pipes. It makes a warmer sound than the scottish pipes. It is very sweet and poignant to hear this instrument performed live. It has the blues in it, but it can also kick on fast Irish music.

    Uillean pipes are the national bagpipes of Ireland. I love them.
    From wikipedia: Earlier known in English as "union pipes", their current name is a partial translation of the Irish-language term píobaí uilleann (literally, "pipes of the elbow"), from their method of inflation."
    As you can see, the pipes are not as long as Scottish bagpipes, which is, I think, one reason their sound is softer and less harsh than Scottish pipes.

      The "Bagpipes", inflated by the mouth, were used in Ireland as well as Scotland and North England.
      In Ireland thay were know as "Píobaí Choghaidh" in Irish i.e. 'War Pipes' and were played by the piper ahead of soldiers going into battle.

    My understanding is the the Great Highland Bagpipes are the battle pipes, intended to be played in the open with no accompaniment and to strike fear in the enemy. Ullean pipes are the melody pipes, they can be softer and played with other instruments in the halls of the High Kings

    • @splortz
      @splortz 9 років тому +1

      +Sidney Frederickson i dunno about the "Halls of the High Kings", as uillean pipes were only invented in the late 18th century....

    • @halsawyer9930
      @halsawyer9930 9 років тому +18

      +Sidney Frederickson The Uilleann bagpipe is descended from the great French baroque chamber-music bagpipes of the 17th Century played in the court of Louis IVX . These were refined from peasant instruments by the Hotteterre family of woodwind makers who also invented our modern clarinets and oboes. The English Northunbrian bagpipe is also a surviving member of this class of instrument. The Irish version, which the most complicated bagpipe in the world ,with as many as 10 reeds in some versions, was not fully developed until the end of the 19th Century.
      As for the Scottish Highland bagpipe, which is now made in only one intonation; it has completely different type of instrument with an unrelated history, It is most similar to the modern Spanish bagpipe, the Gaita, which is very popular in the northern provinces of Galicia and Asturias, and which is produced in several intonations, and also to the Biniou bagpipe, played only in the French peninsula of Brittany, but still very successful there, and is produced in only one tuning, about and octave higher pitched than the others. These are pastoral or peasant bagpipes which have been in essentially their present form since the 16th Century, and mainly due to the great similarity of their chanters, can be assumed to represent a single historic class of instrument.

    This is for Mickey Gallaher. Although I agree with you about Americans calling themselves Irish,Scottish, Cornish, or any other member of another nation, America is made up of so very many cultures. I am an American of Irish and Scottish heritage, and very proud of it. I have been a lover of my heritage since I was a little boy. I hope to one day be able to reside in Ireland. Although I am American, my pride in my heritage and my families heritage is strong. This is not a negative statement nor do I hope it is taken that way. You are proud of your heritage and your country, as you should be, but remember that America is the people, that was forged of many nations when their own countries were persecuting them, and to get a chance at a new life. The generational gap from their heritage doesn't mean they are any less proud of it. Síocháin leat!

    To answer your Question , 'Uilleann Pipes' . It' a quite old { developed it is believed around mid 1700's } An Irish Instrument named from the Irish-language term, 'píobaí uilleann,' their method of inflation.. Hear also Davy Spillane's original, version at the start of 1994 Eurovision song contest. They have developed it over the years, & Credit to this player Wonderful feeling & expression, if it brought tears to your eyes, you might have a little Gaellic blood in your veins. Remember hearing this the first time at Eurovision played by Davy Spillane. Most beautiful in World Music. Who is the Creator/Composer of this? What a genious and talent to create such a melody that can make you cry instantly.

    To answer the question from the description, the instrument played here is called the Uilleann Pipes. It is an Irish version of bagpipes. Instead of a blowpipe to provide air for the bag, the player pumps a bellows with the right arm and then squeezes the bag with his left. It has a chanter like the highland pipes, but the range is two octaves, chromatic, whereas the highland pipes have a range of a ninth and use a modal scale.

      As I can attest, one of the most difficult instruments to learn to play.

      The scots bagpipes came from Ireland
      They didn't suit the irish step dance and that is why the uileann pipes were developed

    Someone has posted Davy Spillan'e version of this tune under Davy's name, although it also was part of a Riverdance performance, maybe in the U.K.. The tune is listed as Caoineadh Cu Chulainn ..

    Uillean Pipes, also played by Davy Spillane in Riverdance appearances.- Kate Bush also used Davy in her band for her rendition of Rocket Man in 1991. Unlike this performance here, Davy seems to pump the bellows with his left elbow...These pipes are widely used from Folk, to Rock & Orchestral music, & quite bewitching. Kate Bush played & directed Rocket Man for an album called Two Rooms, which included many other artists. Kate had wanted to do the song for a long time.... Both she & Sinead O'Connor received critical praise for their contributions on Two Rooms. Kate's version of Rocket Man (with Davy is on UA-cam (B&W)...Official Video. Davy's performance of this tune is also up on UA-cam.

    Uilleann pipes. The Uilleann pipes consist of a set of pipes that are played using a small set of bellows that are strapped to the player’s waist. Unlike other types of bagpipes, the Uilleann pipes do not have a drone, which is a continuous note that is played alongside the melody. Instead, the pipes produce a variety of different notes by pressing the keys on the chanter, which is the main playing component of the instrument.🎶
