I made so many blocks just like this and tried so many times to put them together. I wanted to surprise my grandson with this beautiful blanket. I was so upset when I tried to put them together and it just wouldn’t come out right. I threw all the block in my knitting bucket and thought that’s it; knitting is supposed to be relaxing and I am stressing myself out! You just inspired me to try again. Thanks for the smile. 😊🧶
Yours are my “GO TO” videos for knitting help and techniques! Thanks for being so helpful. For my current project (a vest with turtleneck) I have used both the Icelandic Bind Off and the seam for garter stitch. Delightful...
Great demo! That's a bit different from what I was taught and looks so much better. I really liked how you just got right down to business. Seems so many people's tutorials are just blab, blab, blab :)). But you're just so clear and efficient.
Mattress stitch is the method I used to seam here. When you use mattress stitch on any work (I demonstrate garter stitch here), it does leave a ridge on the back of the work. I've never had a problem with the ridge it leaves, and it's totally worth it for how nice the work looks on the front side. :)
Thank you! You video helped me learn a new skill in my knitting! I've been knitting for more than 10 years, but always shied away from pattern that required seaming. I decided to try with a little kimono pattern for my pregnant friend's baby, and knew I could count on you to teach me how to seam it all together when I got there. Mission accomplished, with a very cute result :-)
Very good demo! It seems that this is the most "unlookedto" stage of any of my projects. I just don't do it well. Your vids are very helpful to me. Thanks!
It seems like this would work well with joining two garter stitch pieces together that are different colors. I'm knitting my daughter in law a Czech flag, and I need to join the red and the blue together. I'm going to give it a try. Thanks, Staci, as always, for being the best resource out there!
So the project I'm knitting says to use whip stitch to seam side by side garter stitch and the photos show really visible seams which I know would bother me to no end. Thank you for presenting this superior option, and for doing it so clearly!
You seem to always upload helpful videos just when I need them; I'm working on a rug made of squares with garter edges that will need to be seamed together. Thanks so much!!
Staci, this video and your video on using the mattress stitch to seam stockinette pieces are immeasurably helpful. Would you consider doing them as Slo-Mo videos with close-ups now that you have that capability? I'm suggesting this because being able to see your reference points (smiles, umbrellas, ladders) clearly and precisely is key to seaming success. I think it would be worth it because your two methods are Gold Standards on seaming. Thanks!
Good idea, thank you! I do have one slo-mo video on seaming, so far. You can see the slo-mo playlist here: ua-cam.com/play/PLUv37jBrlCtLeB9KGy5ABNfsc03Fo3k4K.html
Fab as always! Just looking for a nice seam for my Double moss stitch edge, on a cabled sweater, was just wondering. As the edge reminds me go garter stitch. Your my rock. Thank you
Thuri Jons - no, this seam (mattress stitch), is invisible on the front of the work, and leaves a ridge on the back of the work. I can't think of a seam in knitting that is truly invisible on both sides.
I'm trying to do this with a garter stitch sleeve, starting from the cast-on edge. But my right-hand-side piece looks like the opposite of yours in terms of umbrellas + smiles. I tried seaming smile to smile, and smile to left-most-umbrella (right on the edge of the piece) but they both look bad. Not sure what to do. Maybe I'll try smile to second-umbrella-in
Two things: (1) the camera isn't close enough to actually see the stitches you're picking up; and (2) would the finished seam look any different if the garter stitch edges were slip-stitched?
Greeting. Great informative video.. What type of needle are you using to attach the squares? And my second question is.. If my squares are basically the same size should I block?
Are you talking about the closed-captioning in the video? You can turn those off, or you can drag them to a different part of the screen. The closed captioning is in your control.

I have looked at several videos of seaming garter stitch and yours is the best. Thank you

This was excellent! I have always struggled to make seamed garter stitch look good and this was perfect. Thanks!
I think your tutorials are just the greatest!

wow, this is just like magic , it almost looks like no seaming at all, i was seam it wrong, you are my hero.

That's a wonderfully helpful. I rarely work in garter stitch, but was always curious to know how to connect them side by side. Thank you!

I would love to see a video on how to sew vertical to horizontal in garter stitch. :) I'm so happy I found this channel.
Great video! It is incredibly helpful. I wasn't able to line things up evenly before trying your technique. Thanks!

THANK GOD YOU KEPT THIS VIDEO UP 💋💋
Always - no need to delete knitting videos, they don't expire!
Would like to know if the seam on the wrong side is as invisible too. Love your tutorials. Thank you

OK trank you :)
Thanks so much! The instructions in all your videos are very helpful and easy to follow.

AWESOME! I am making a queen sized blanket for my parents and I was stressing how to seam the panels together!
Another game changing video! Thank you!
•❤︎• thank you for teaching us •❤︎•
I just tried it, following your teaching
👌🏻 perfection •❤︎• thank you

Brilliant tutorial ❤Thank you
Thank you for posting this! This is perfect video to prepare for my current project.
Thankyou! How do I do with two cast on edges?
Only problem is, the written instructions are ALWAYS ontop of the actual sewing,
So it's impossible to see what's being done.

Aha I knew there must be a better way to get a neater finish! Thank you :-)
Garter stitch is knitting every stitch, every row.
So well explained! Thank you so much.
Thank you! :)
Thank you, most helpful.
