We met him back when we were young teens at the John C. Campbell Folk School. He had a band with another great musician named John Devine and they took Katie and I under their wing and taught us a lot. Katie and I played at a wedding last week. While we were standing at the top of the altar, I look over and low and behold it was Steve and his beautiful wife DeLaura. We were able to grab him the next day before he left and play some tunes. We hope you guys enjoy it!

Music cuts across all ages. It is so cool to watch Corie and Katie form lasting relationships with musicians who've been around the block a few times. What a joy to Steve Hickman after likely 40 years. I never did learn to play the fiddle, but this year I have returned to music and am.learning the ukulele.
Whenever I am asked I say I have had two excellent teachers in my life and Steve is one of them.

Never heard of this one and I've been around fiddlers for decades. I play mandolin, so this is a sweet, must learn one for me. Another in the key of G. I like these great tunes and just too many to learn in such a short time above ground. There many not be such great tunes like this in Heaven, so that's why we play 'em here.

@@thepressleygirls I've got a version in a book. Then I heard Norman Blake's take. It's a bit different and I think the best, so spent a relaxing after noon (9/21) trying to work up his version. Got the A part pretty well. Now on to the B half. I'm glad it's in G -- lots of possibilities in that scale, but need to slow it down and listen and get the timing just right. Learning by ear is challenging and great fun. Cheers, folks,. Bob
