Holy crap ive seen this 1000 times and it still blows my mind .. I hear different notes and bends each time I play it .. And good ole Ricky playing an acoustic like that .. I'd love a go off his guitar to feel the neck and string gauge .. Wow boys absolutely fantastic
If you listen to the very end, Ricky and Albert are playing the same notes and they match perfectly! It really says something about Ricky's playing that he can keep up with Albert that way!
who gives a shit about what these guys have been listening to, and videos they have been watching, it,s about the music. these guys are superb together, man, this is the best
who cares what kind of music they play. They are both great and have brought much happiness to anyone who chooses to listen.Good music lives on forever to bad we Don't.
I have spent 30 years trying to learn this and i am very close and very glad because it is the best song ever recorded and this may be the best version too.
Country started “going South” (pardon the expression) in the 90s. Not that there were no longer any great artists, of course there were. And are. But Country radio no longer would play the good stuff from the 60s, 70s and 80s, and would only play what was “hot” and “new”. When was the last time you heard Johnny Lee or Joe Stampley? Mel McDaniel? Dottie West? That’s why I listen to Sirius/XM or make my own selections on iTunes. Can’t count on radio program directors to give me what I want.
Are you joking? This is a guitar song for goodness sake! If you want every instrument in the band take a solo in every song go and listen to jazz mate.
@slash129 No, you haven't... And Brad isn't a bad player, he is just really sloppy... He isn't even in the top 300 in Nashville... And burst my bubble? Hardly, I'm a pro session player... I am because I'm needed... If Brad didn't have a deal, he wouldn't be a session musician... He doesn't have the time, tone, nor chops.. And I really like Brad as a person.. But as a player he isn't in the conversation really.. But he its better than 90% of the garbage we put out here..
I used to have this whole episode recorded on VHS, but lost it :( I wish someone would post the rest of the songs from it, I liked the Lovin' Only Me that Ricky performed on it.
@slash129 I am on a ton of stuff.. But it is mostly signature stuff.. Not a lot of burning on records.. I am on Doug Jernegans record and half of Paul Franklins new record that hasn't come out yet.. Also I did Aubrey Haney's record and Branford Marsalis's new thing we just did..
@badfinger848 Brad is not in the elite. Sorry to tell you. I think as compared to what is "famous" (eye roll) he obviously has some talent above what else is heard coming out of Nashville. Come to Nashville and see for yourself. He couldn't hold a candle to the players that do not have deals. They are NOT famous, but trust me, around here Brad isn't anything. Us players rarely speak his name in conversations. And Jazz? BS he isn't even in the conversation. And if Brad knew who was posting P1
@slash129 Lol, yeah it isn't anything to write home about.. Brent got to play on records in the 90's when country was cooking back then.. Now (with the exception of Brad) there really isn't any great need for cool playing.. It's mainly a chord pad "sound" thing with some ovd's.. Not much cool soloing.. and yeah Brent is the man.. But believe it or not? There are guys here that are just as incredible.. It makes me proud of Nashville. Wish they were known I really do.. They deserve it..
@SuperGuitarman69 to predictable but highly difficult country phrased solos like the one above.Just saying , give him his due , dont look at it from a technical point of view , composing beautiful solos n signature riff is just as important , that where Brad,Mark Knophler,Joe Walsh,Slash score over Vai , buckethead,Brent Mason.
@SuperGuitarman69 point taken , i've not been to Nashville so I dont know what other talent exists there besides youtube videos , I didn't say Brad was better than Brent tho, can you inbox me a song of one of these artist you mentioned you played on , even if i search for random songs of theirs I would kno if it wer you or other sessions guitarists , I love checkin out country inspired guitarists , thanks
It appears that they were probably Brits, but I can't find anything definitive. I discovered, however, that Chas Hodges from Chas & Dave played with them.
@SuperGuitarman69 n lack of timing as with others of Nashville guitar players,Brad definitely has superior tone , no mistakes what so ever on any you tube videos of his(i've seen alot) , and most importantly his showmanship (the basic difference between rock stars and other guitarists) [a very important trait to capture an audience] , also lets not forget that ppl would much rather remember a mud on the tires solo (slightly difficult but beautifully composed) cont
It's a shame they didn't let Mark O'Conner or the keyboard player (sorry, I forgot his name...) share the solos! Both quite capable and to be snubbed is just a slap in the face at best.
@SuperGuitarman69 Have you never heard of Brad Paisley? He's one of the best guitarists I have ever heard and he's not just great at playing straight-up country guitar but he can play blues, jazz and rock very well too! Paisley's 2008 album PLAY shows those four main genres off and even dives into sub genres like surf rock. And, of course, Albert Lee, Steve Wariner and B.B. King (as well as other great guitarists) join him for some songs on there!
@SuperGuitarman69 I respect you being a well reputed sessions musician , can I hear some of your work ? I would really appreciate it , I'm a freelance live guitarist myself (probably not as good),play mostly blues , rock n most recently country , I'm just saying there's a reason why brads up there,he runs around n plays what most other ppl cant do standing (I own a wireless n know how challenging that is),plus if you look at this video of Albert lee , there is a few bum notes ...cont
@SuperGuitarman69 sorry to burst your bubble Mr , but i've heard alot of the so called not famous Nashville guitarist and Brad is one of the best (solely as a guitar player) , then through in his song writing and amazing vocals n you'll see why he s a world wide hit n why the others aren't .
Two of the best guitarists with two of the best guitars. A vintage D-28 and a vintage Telecaster!
My god.. those guys can burn it.
Between 4:08 and 4:40 Albert plays the coolest licks I've ever heard. Then he looks up at Ricky Skaggs like, "whatchu got beeotch"?!?
albert lee is a treasure!
Albert Lee, the Telecaster King!
Holy sh*t. That's some musicianship.
Holy crap ive seen this 1000 times and it still blows my mind .. I hear different notes and bends each time I play it .. And good ole Ricky playing an acoustic like that .. I'd love a go off his guitar to feel the neck and string gauge .. Wow boys absolutely fantastic
and the award for the SICKEST country lick ever goes to A. Lee @ 3:02 sec!!!!
The fingers NEVER leave their hands ? D A N G. ME !!!
who cares what kind of music they play. They are both great and have brought much happiness to anyone who chooses to listen.Good music lives on forever to bad we Don't.
Ooh Albert you're using delay so sneaky
You see him switching it on at 3:48 ish
Sounds so good though
Great vid thanks for the upload
I'm not a newcomer to Ricky Skaggs or bluegrass but after watching this vid I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. Thanks for posting.
Brilliant,- Not seen Albert Lee doing country rock before. Amazing. Love this.
Brad Paisley wouldn't have a pot to piss in if it wern't for guys like Ricky Skaggs & Albert Lee.
Am I the only one who watches this, giggles like a little girl, grins from ear to ear and proclaims, "That's just not right" ?
top notch band on that stage--world class a Mark O'Connor on fiddle and the others are top shelf in any style of music
I have spent 30 years trying to learn this and i am very close and very glad because it is the best song ever recorded and this may be the best version too.
Man them boys sure can pick! ;-)
Back when country had real artists! I live here in Nashville and I'm totally embarrassed at the crap we put out now!
Mullet Central.

Albert is from England I belive, his sister is actually the landlady for the flat we live :) although I haven't had the chance to meet Albert yet
Boy, there sure is a difference in the sound of an acoustic guitar compared to an solid body electric!
Are you joking? This is a guitar song for goodness sake! If you want every instrument in the band take a solo in every song go and listen to jazz mate.

doodle-addle-doodle-addle-bling-bling-doodle-adda-adda-adda-doodle-doodle-doodle, man can these boys play!!
This guy is "sold your soul to the devil good" ...I'm going to see him July 17 at a little place called The Coachouse..can't wait!
I used to have this whole episode recorded on VHS, but lost it :( I wish someone would post the rest of the songs from it, I liked the Lovin' Only Me that Ricky performed on it.

No one can play like Ricky!
Fabulous stuff from two exceptional artists

Aw..the audience thought his fingers did the delay..

threw my guitar in the garbage.................
guitar lesson
@SuperGuitarman69 Being English that's a shock. I always imagined that Nashville would have great country music artists whatever the era?
What can you say after seeing this? Utterly amazing!!! We love you Ricky!!!
@badfinger848 this response back to you? He would tell you the same thing.
Pardon my ignorance, but were (or are)Ray Smith and Tony Colton Brits or American?
So where are you (and his sister) based? That didn't come out as it was meant to!
They also did Luxury Liner on this episode. I think Albert's picking was even better on that one. Anyone record that that wants to share?
Aooouch!
So was it Ray, Ricky and Albert who wrote it?
Favourited
prefer albert lees version from1979
Floor was scattered with broken picks!!
just totally outstanding............ amazing talent!
This is only where rock starts
My favorite song by my Uncle Richard! Love ya
GREAT
!!!!!
Yeah!
Wow!
The best country music in the world!!!
Crazy

This is SICK!!!
