Thanks again guys for your work here. Great production and comments for two great performances. Yes, that was Randy Travis you recognized, this was sometime after suffering a stroke and in recovery.
These Country Roads performances are all recorded in Nashville, TN and the musicians are all Nashville recording musicians; top notch and are featured in most of the Country Road series I have watched. There are a lot of these free to watch series on YT; just search for them.

Thank you Milton for your generosity! You’re right, those Nashville artists are amazing and can play just about anything! Loved this video! It took me back and reminded me of my childhood! Have a great day!

OH, yeah! I'm sitting here singing along and harmonizing, and in my head I'm listening to my mom playing that violin, and my best friend and I singing along. I grew up in an Episcopalian church, but that really didn't matter. There were so few of us in Old Valdez, and we all pretty much -- no matter which church we generally attended -- just loved spending time worshiping God together.
RANDY TRAVIS! Have you ever heard his song called "Three Wooden Crosses"?...

Josh Turner, over the years, has beautifully covered quite a few Randy Travis songs.

Randy had been battling heart problems over and over again for years, and he would still perform from time to time. Sadly, though, he passed away on December 24, 2023.

As long as we're talking about gospel and/or bluegrass music, here's my mom, with her final public performance, back in 2007. She still played at home, even after we moved back here to South Dakota, until 2009. After that, she couldn't do it any longer. I have tons of tapes, though -- including a full Christmas Cantata that she wrote, that she never got published . My daughter Judi and I keep saying that someday we'll publish it for her, but that also means reading her music the way SHE wrote it, which is quite different than the norm...in her own shorthand. She could read traditional music quite easily...she just didn't like to WRITE it that way.
The reason she didn't get to play this song for Judi's and Harry's wedding, was because she had taken a HUGE fall, displaced her left shoulder, and almost broken her right thumb completely off. Thankfully she healed well enough to play the song at church for them one day. I was running sound and doing the overhead work at the Salvation Army Church where we lived at the time, and filling in as teacher/preacher when the pastor and his wife had to be away, so we set up this special time for Mom to play. She was pretty much healed by then, and it's a miracle, really, that she could play at all. It doesn't sound like her previous sound, but it's pretty good, under the circumstances.
I published the following video in 2019 -- five years after she passed away...
"Phyl and Her Fiddle--September 2007--Her Final Public Performance"
    "One Day at a Time"

Just for the record, what you’re calling a lap steel is a pedal steel. Lap steel is a different instrument although it is also played with a steel bar.

Pedal steel pedals change the string a whole note while levers do half note changes.

Jonathan Milligan does precious lord on a pedal steel. It is very peaceful. Just organ and pedal steel.
