A great regret of mine: Never having the opportunity to see him sing in person. His style of guitar playing and singing is very rare. Like a great book and a fire and a cup of tea....his music touches the soul. A lot of music today is written to sing along to or as a background noise of distraction from everyday life, but Ralph's music tends to make you stop, listen, reflect and feel. His music is a beautiful way to be reminded of what it means to be alive, to be part of life.
I first saw Ralph McTell in 1973, not long after I started playing guitar. His style and incredible songwriting inspired my own passion for playing and still does. A wonderfully talented guy who is very underrated and is definitely up there amongst the giants of acoustic guitar players.
what a brilliant interview maggie,he gave you so much -and us all.I bought the same yamaha fg 180 as he use to play in the early 1970s a good choice helped along by ralph long may you continue!
