  • Hey guys and gals... I wanted to post this video showing an alternate way to tackle the wiring for your starter, alternator and oil pressure sensor when doing a VK56 V8 swap into an Xterra or Frontier. The current common way is to use the entire alternator/starter sub harness from your Xterra.
For this method, you will still need the grey, 9 pin pigtail off of the Xterra alternator/starter sub-harness but this eliminates having to tear it apart, remove wires and reuse the entire sub-harness. Simply cut off a couple inch pigtail from the Xterra harness and reconnect the wiring as shown.
For me, this was much easier as my Xterra is still running and driving. I simply snipped the needed plug from a local pick and pull. Using this method, I can complete all of the wiring before removing the engine from the Xterra and eliminate having to do any more wiring work once the Xterra engine is out and for me, this is quicker and easier than tearing apar the whole sub-harness and then reconnecting everything back on the engine.
This method does require de-pinning and/or cutting/soldering or using butt connectors on 5 wires. After making this video, I checked the wiring diagram and for my 2008 titan and 2011 xterra, for the alternator wiring, the Yellow connects to Yellow, Yellow and Black connects to Blue and the Brown/white connects to Pink. Yours may be different!

This is an awesome video! Would love to see a video on how you rewired the main connectors in the harness.
