Wes I am a heavy equipment operator in Canada and on the same 18 full Lincoln grease gun the trick is don't tightknit all the way when you change tubes threaded on loose let it pump for 45 pumps it will start to push it to Greece then tighten it otherwise you'll always have that problem with the air Also you need to have about 2 inches of space between the grubber on the track and the third bogie wheel from the rear it should be jacked in the air to check this
Next time use 3 steel pipes in the track about 1 1/2", its much easier to take tracks off and put back on. It raises the track above the rollers then use the crow bar to slide it off. Make sure you do it on the front and not in the sprocket. Takes about 15 min each side.
Just a tip for the grease gun, when you put a new tube of grease in just screw the tube in about half way, or until you think it'll stay on, then release the plunger, it usually pushes almost all the air out and then you don't have to try to bleed it out and make sure you put your grease tubes right side up, some people leave em lay on their side.
When I was kid on the fam-farm, break-downs always meant high stress days, lots of tool tossing, cussing, and spitting ..Wes makes the whole RR process seems more routine..like it's part of the job, part of farming..which is how break-downs should be handled.
whats the grease gun called u have and is it just a tip for regular grease guns? The Lock something right? Im a mechanic and am really wanting to give it a shot!
lol totally ignore my last comment wrote it with the iphone and it somehow got really wierd lol. Basically all you need to do with the 18 volt lincoln gun is to put in a new tube and thread it on so it is still fairly loose and give it a few pumps once you are getting grease just tighten her up. you will not lose any grease as it takes the path of least resistance out the hose but it will bleed the air off. Trick of the trade learned the hard way lol
Hi you let your dad near the skid steer, I won't let mine near the TV controls some days L.O.L. I enjoy your videos it's real world farming like I have here. Please keep posting More Regards Robert
just be glad you didn't loose an idler, crack a hydraulic fitting and have what i said in the first comment. that was a terrible week fixing that thing. it took an hour to get out there each time because the only way out there is with another crawler or atv's that constantly get stuck in the deep sand...
Hey Wes I take it you have ran the Skid steer track loader for a long time given the date of this, has it been good for you, is there any chance you could give an overview of it and your experiences with it, how happy or not you have been with its performance and if you wouldn't mind what sort of hours it had and has from a reliability point as it seems just from here like its a pretty important part of you Farm tool kit ? and I have seen a couple of your video's of it lifting bales and Man she is no slouch in lift, I heard you mention ASX or ASV which ever we have here, I saw one of those and the load centre was terrible in the one here when it picked up but the John Deere seems to be very well balanced with the lift ? Thanks Garry
Have you ever looked at a case ih skid steer? Try looking at a SV 300 sometime. I have a wheeled one and i love it great on fuel the hydraulics could be a bit faster at times though. Please reply.
That is plenty of work and not for someone without the proper equipment to work with. I enjoyed viewing that video and especially the part about having to remove the grease plug and afterwards refilling it upon putting on the new tracks. Thanks for sharing that video and does that same procedure applies for removing the tracks on a dozer?
also want to be careful using the high gear on your gun for anything other then trying to get the grease out. I have gone through 2 of these guns that both blew apart because i was greasing in high gear. have had my third gun now for over 2 years and have not had a problem with it only using low gear. I mean its still better then hand pumping right?
a little hint for next time only raise the track off the ground like an inch otherwise it hangs down and puts more pressure on your idler and drive sprocket
just be glad you didn't snap a pin on solid steel tracks on a 19,000 pound dozer,in the middle of nowhere,in the sand! and you had to use your neighbors dozer to get the john deere truck out there to reset the track and put a new pin in. and to top it all off,the john deere worker was complaining and in a bad mood.
Hi wes just wanted to say I really enjoy your videos . I'm from Ireland and love seeing your videos of machienery and fixing them. I've a small farm here compared to you . Maybe u could check out my vids some day , Tomas
Pressure through a grease zero. You pump grease in but it can't come out unless you relieve it by un screwing the relieve valve. Almost like a hydraulic but with grease. Hope this explains your question
With eqp and fuel costs being what they are, along with all of the other expensive overhead and things that a farmer has to deal with, how in the world do ya'll make any money at all? I'm not being nosey, it's just that every time I see the machinery (and things to buy and maintain) I can't help but wonder how the farmers like you make ends meet.(I'm sure there are times when they don't meet, but even in the "good" years it seems like a stretch).

Very interesting to see what farming is really like - lots and lots of mechanical and engineering as well ;)

wes when changing old tracks I just cut the ruber away and cut the steal with a tourch, it works better
At least it is a better system than the Caterpillar 257B. Track adjuster is a threaded tie rod.

way cool never knew they were grease tensioned! learned something new, thanks! :D

1 down 300 more to go. Good video, thanks
the grease in pumped into a cylinder that forces out on the front idler wheel.. so it basicly a hydraulic cylinder filled with grease
if the tracks are shot cut the rubber away and cut the meddle with tthe torch thats what we do in our bobcat
nice job. How are your crops doing this year? Aint to good here in Ohio. We had 32bu/ac beans and about 100 bu/ac corn.
Great vid Wes!

Now I missed it. I look at all your new video you camp up and your older videos. how big is the farm you have?
Big ass Wall-E
Hey how much one of those track units weight?
a little hint for next time only raise the track off the ground like an inch otherwise it hangs down and puts more pressure on your idler and drive sprocket
what way does the air grease gun work, dont see an air line going to it.used to have a different type of one but the sob kept air locking, pissed me off

One person 6 hours and 2 forklifts. Replaced them last week it sucked and nobody wanted to help. Went ahead and replaced the worn sprockets.
Are the new tracks expensive?
Next time you take the track off just pull ot off the front idler in one go, itll go loose then and just pull ot clear of the rear drive.
good stuff
Awesome!
id say u could hav got a couple more hundred hrs out of that track
my daddy got john deere 250 skid steer its got track over the wheels its just skinny tires
nice to have help
you dont see the the giant deere name on the side and the logo on the back?
Nice work...not a job I would want to tackle.
would not steel tracks be more bullet proof even with the cost difference between rubber and steel??
between $1200 and $2000 depending on what you get. And that's each
this is a caterpillar or a john deere?
You going to have enough room for your corn this year?
That would suck to have to pump that retensioner full of grease with a hand pump grease gun.
did one of these ONCE. never again. haha
Cool
Barn update coming soon?

you should post a video of you moving all that corn
could someone please explain to me how grease can provide enough pressure
to push the front idler forward enough to tighten the track

How about an interview of your dad?
you got youre moneys worth out of those tracks.
GO WITH METAL TRACKS ONLY WITH BOLT ON PADS

Try a CAT 299C. It is very nice.
I'VE HAD MY TRACKS TO COME UNGLUED WHEN I WAS OVER A EDGE MOWING
a lot of the CAT and BOBCAT tracks are tensioned by grease
Iv put tracks on a bobcat before, its no easy'er lol.
no i did not look at them i looked at cat and case and deere..
THESE GUYS NEED TRAINING ON REMOVAL AND INSTALL OF TRACKS
It worked didn't it?
USE 1 1/2 IN BY 26 IN CHEATER PIPES YOU WILL NEED 4 WITH BIG BLOCKS OF PINE
at 10:47 what where those animals behind you?
looks like it needed new tracks any way
10:45 are them Chickens?
I will agree tho cat and asv are much trickier, especially the asv's, and cat wants u to buy their tool # dumb
What the f*** is behind you, Wes at 9:35??
God that looks anoying... Wasn't cutting it off an option?
Ya, but you'd need a cutoff saw to do it, they may not have had one at the time.
Looks like it was easier and faster to squisee that grease out with old tracks on.
is that a cat at 9:37
............always fixing something...
4:30 NEVER EVER DO THIS
Seems you are always repairing something broken or worn out
one lonley broke farmer LOL
cut tha track
on the job farm accident ready to happen
