Man this video is absolutely needed, repect is the main thing always needed on site and how you approach situations as a team. Its so true negative talking behind techs backs just brings the whole team down. Great video.

Rope Access crews need to learn/focus on working more as a team. I have seen this in training a bunch.
Almost every time, I taught a Level 3 course and got to the "team exercise". It ended in a shit show.
Need to focus less on having a large ego and more on respect for one another.

Great topic, and very true. Coming from the side of the trees of this issue, I've met some pretty big egos out there, I had a similar attitude myself for awhile. Talking trash does not provide solutions to the matter at hand. Thank you Mikey again, Jim H.

I have never hade my rigging changed on me. I have never seen dangerous rigging from fellow teammates. However I have changed others rigging not because it was dangerous but way overly complicated. I find in our industry there are big performance gaps from technician to technician. Which is why it's important that all rigging & procedures be standardized. Keep it clean & simple respect your teammates.

This is also a problem. But sometimes it just takes picking up a phone to talk with the other teammate to understand why they rigged it that way.

Fire depts literally live, work and train together and as a slightly dis functional family so they mostly work well together. I also work in the UXO field and Rope access, both have similar qualified techs from all over the world randomly sometimes working on contracts together. I see the same issues in both fields. A quality team leader/manager is harder to find than a “technically” qualified L-3 or T-3. It takes patience, personality, personal investment into the job, a level of respect for competent professionals.

      Hey Alex,
Thank you for your comment. Yes, the fire service has a way better structure than most rope access structures. I takes years of experience and training to get to the higher positions. Yet rope access, show up attend a few weeks of training and you're good to go.
In many cases here in Canada, zero personal investment.

@@theropeaccessandclimbingpo2380 It’s also a “Job vs Career” attitude, a little, a pride. (thinks he/she is gods gift to Rope access) and possibly an entitlement “My way or the highway”. The skill of management/leadership is often harder to teach, doesn’t have visible cost benefit, often under appreciated, difficult to quantify and quite a bit comes down to natural personality.
You taking your own personal time to make videos, podcasts, teach, learn and discuss shows how personally invested you are in this career. Cheers for all you do!🤙🏽

@@alexworks9659 totally agree. People don't look at this as a career. It's just a job that pays the bills and in a lot of cases, that fill in job till something better comes along.
I to am guilty of this mind site. Yet here we are almost 12 years later in the same industry. Heavily invested in the Career.
For me it's not just show up and get paid to keep a roof over my head. Its about learning everyday, the time it takes to plan and record episodes and remove the blurry lines.
      Thank you,
The investment of this channel has paid off much more than I ever thought.
      And I really enjoy it.
      This is my career.
      This is my passion.

I spent years in construction and did an apprenticeship before starting on the ropes. Sad to say but I have never come across such big egos in any other sector. Becoming a L3 means you passed the test on that day, it doesn't make you a demi-God.
I have now heard similar tales from techs all over Europe. Perhaps restricting training to experienced trades, climbers, mechanics etc would be a start. I think L3's should have to learn how to manage people and run jobs. It doesn't come naturally to most, but the moment you're certified people believe it is a natural step.

Well said sir. I to have a similar path to yours and have came across the same egos your talking about. Very strange phenomena. That being said I have met more awesome people in this industry then egotistical ones.
      Cheers.

I dont know the right answer here. Thats for sure. But like you said, theres something about this one that makes people feel this god complex.
I never like hearing about holding people back to preventing someone from bettering themselves.
But i do think that becoming a L3 is nothing more than passing the test and managing people is much much different and needs to be controlled better.

      Its all about the education.
Not talking to the person or showing the person what could have done better is worse!
If the person has done something that isnt ideal…. They need to know, or else they will go do it again and again.
You dont know what you dont know
