Thank you for this important talk. As someone who has made wide use of various psychedelics, I am grateful for what they taught me but at the same time acknowledge that they did nothing for my addiction issues, in fact they probably made things worse and caused a number of other issues. I am also very concerned at the potential difficulties surrounding their use and that, as you rightly say, they are not for everyone. They are not to be taken lightly.

poignant re your sister, thank you for talking about this. Really very interesting re therapists that are fully trained/experienced. Ive got the same problem as the Corgi-I get so lulled into a peaceful state, often nod off during the meditation :)

Changes are certainly happening with the use of psychedelics, King's College are currently engaged in researching the use of psilocybin for treatment resistant depression, I fell at the last stage of assessment because it was discovered I have a minor heart problem.
I'm aware of other research happening with Dr. David Knott.
Personally, I feel that honouring the plant spirit is important, as part of healing ceremony. ❤ 🌿

One thing I've learned is that when one opens themselves up to Spirit; it's mandatory that they have a proper guide both into and leading out of the experience... I had this without a proper guide, and no use of psychedelics, and the visions were such that they were interfering with my standard of living, and wound up getting diagnosed in 2011 with Schizoaffective Disorder Bipolar Type with suicidal ideation.

I see soo many "new age fluffy woo woo" spirituality use high does with hardcore modality's like kundalini yoga which normally leads to a psychotic breaks as there's no awareness of bottom up approaches. So many of my clients come from these community's that I still dabble in and out of (Ecstatic dance). I'm currently micro dosing, but know my integration time, dose, and intentions etc. I love David Nutts stuff on this. All these allies must be meet with respect, Just as I work with any plants- I ask Awen- is this right for me right now ? I really enjoy these talks, Need to put the Monday night meetings into my calendar to get to the next one. :)

I'm sorry to hear about your sister. As a psychologist practicing CBT I see psychedelics as just another avoidance from having to deal with the complexity of difficult emotions. Or worse, a safety behaviour where a person's emotions can only be addressed via psychedelic therapies. I spend so much time pointing out to clients that as wonderful as that yoga retreat or herbal supplement may be, it has done very little to change the nuts and bolts processes that are maintaining the problem as per our formulation. Psychedelics are a distraction in a similar way.
I do think there are people psychedelics might help, they are the people who would otherwise receive ECT. Paradoxically, this would probably make them unsuitable for current psychedelic treatment options by virtue of being very mentally unwell 🤷🏼‍♀️
My concern is that those developing psychedelic treatments will probably try to market psychedelics as the Ozempic of better mental health. Why not. Think of the billions they'll make. People always want a quick fix or magic button ( boy do clients love EMDR.) Offering psychedelic therapy is a great way to sift out the worried-well, so I guess it's useful in that way. However, those with deeper problems might be disappointed.

Psychedelics are how we celts travel to the otherworlds , mushroom mead was used by all at samhain as this is the time of year that each are here , we travel to the ancestral realm where the medicinal plants give us the healing knowledge of themselves the shidhe give us the wisdom of the 3 times of now tomorrow and yesterday, we are the courageous fighting people the bringers of art knowledge and sacrifice, the sacrificial stones of blood letting is a blessing to the animal that becomes one with us in its next existence, all lessons that are not learned in this being become harder in the next, feel sorry for yourself today it will be magnified in the next, be proud be honourable be you

I don't see why you're bringing animal sacrifice into this. There is certainly no place for wilfully hurting an animal in a sacrificial sense or otherwise in the current times.
I love your sentiment of things being interconnected, but this certainly is an odd way of going about it given the context.

I have to disagree with you Scott. Saying "mushroom mead was used by all at Samhain" is a statement I have never heard in 50 years of being immersed in this world. And nothing is used by 'all' anywhere in any context. As regards the term 'sacrifice' in OBOD we have found no need to ever make use of that concept which has so many unfortunate and tragic resonances. Of course the notion of 'letting go/giving up' something is valuable psychologically and spiritually, but 'sacrifice' is too loaded a term in my eyes. Finally your remark about blood-letting of animals. Again this plays no part in the Druidry practicised by Order members. We believe in kindness and respect for animals and many members will be vegetarian or vegan, though not by any means all.

@@PhilipCarrGomm maybe you should make mushroom mead and go to your grove at the thin times and see what you learn Philip, disagreement is fine but basing it on what you haven't heard or learned isnt, i don't know what 254355.57x 3567654.5= but it doesn't mean that you don't know the answer

@@scottingram580 Sounds an interesting idea Soctt! But my point wasn't that it wouldn't work but that you can't use the word 'all' in that context.
