Wonderful conversation. I've been happily wearing Clarks shoes for years not knowing the history so that was "fitting" to hear! Great meditation and I'll look for his grounding shoes. Starting from ancient history the mythology about feet, shoes, and cobblers is remarkable. Greek Achilles with his tender heel, Hermes' Talaria winged sandals, Puss in Boots (dating from renaissance Italy) the Grimm fairytale about the Shoemaker and the elves, Hans Christian Andersen's "the Red Shoes" (not ancient but draws on folk traditions & the heavy Christian message regarding the dangers of exploring one's wild nature through dancing red shoes), etc. The discussion about the essential importance of connection to nature and our bodies got me thinking about how humans devise cultural ways to become disconnected. I was reminded of how women become disconnected through various fashion practices- such as the effect of foot binding or high heeled shoes. Restrictive torturous shoes disguised by fluid words like Golden Lilies and Louboutin. Women have long been taught (by both women and men) to believe such practices enhance a woman's sexual attraction even as it horrifically does damage to her body. While foot binding has been stopped, ridiculously high heels and thick platform soles are still popular. Also the emphasis on the desirability of small feet leads many women to wear shoes that are too small, narrow and pointy. And so forth. By the way in Toronto, Canada, there is the Bata Shoe Museum which is great place to visit for cultural history of shoes. Their shoe collection is amazing. Thanks for all your insightful topics and guests.

Interesting, I grew up going bare foot, and never wear shoes unless I have to, I have been wearing barefoot shoes for about 4 years now! I love them. In the late 60's and early 70's my husband (now passed on) made soft leather shoes, the soles were leather as well, that was all we wore, I could never wear high heel shoes. This was a wonderful conversation. Loved the meditation, I have practiced Taoism for about 30 years, over the years I have combined Druidry with Taoism.

Great talk. i bought my first pair of Vevo barefoot eons ago after hearing Dr Chatterjee talk about them and haven't gone back to mainstream shoes .. so lovely to be totally grounded when out on my hikes. I just wish they didn't always have to be mail order and that more shops stocked them. Sorry get off my soap box now! ps I know there is a shop in London, but i don't get up to the city

When I close my eyes during meditation, I see white energy, waving, dancing, and then light purple energy in the form of balloons, circles, a very relaxing meditation.

Nice idea. Working with potters and potteries, we were always told that was the first craft of humanity. But from what you explain it was shoemakers. I like that idea. 😀

Wonderful talk thanku Galahad & Phillip. I love my vevobarefoot boots, they help that reawakening of our birthright connection to the earth. I spend 8 days in Earthsong camp in Tipparery this summer being barefoot & it was such healing medicine. I have always loved fairytales of shoemakers & magical shoes, thanku Galehad for reminding us of how to make magical shoes. Bless u both & thanku for this richness of conversation & blessed earth connection. ❤
