    Thank you, sir, for sharing your experience / discovery. Goodness, what a crass error! Wish you'd be able to send this video to that block's place of origin, it is actual and living proof of assembly malpractice. Hoping for some goodwill compensation, i.e., in good faith.
    Again, your disposition to let us GM fans learn from this blunder is much appreciated. 👍 Kudos to your expert eye pal as well.

    Ouch, that hurts. Bad keeper design that allows it to be installed wrong. Thoughts & prayers for your motor.

      Thanks it's all sorted out now, new cam and lifters, flushed the motor thoroughly and I have a little over 1000 miles on it now without issues Thanks for watching 👍

      I agree 100% That could have easily been designed and manufactured to fit one-way only.

    Well holy smoly ... thanks for sharing .. that such a simple mistake in one essence but definitely not in another .. that’s one I have not ever seen happen like that ... now I’m wondering if that’s my problem .. I haven’t disassemble mine yet ...

    • @garythegear

      You never know it was all human error in my case, I'm just amazed it lasted 3400 miles , the only way to be sure is to open it up , I personally fought that and had no interest in tearing into a fairly new engine , I hope you're situation is less expensive than mine, please keep me posted on it thanks

      @@garythegear yes I hear ya .. That’s why I haven’t dove into mine yet as I’m fighting the thought of not only re disassembling a fresh refresh lol , but also worried as to what the cause is an my expense that I will occur on my wallet .. soon I gotta do this before winter .. I will keep ya posted thanks again 👍

    I think I have the same problem or something close to it. My new rebuilt 350 has less than 1000 miles on it and it's already ticking. It started very quiet then went away then came back a little louder now it's unmistakable. The company that built it went out of business during covid so I'm stuck fixing it myself. So disappointed..

    • @garythegear
      @garythegear  13 днів тому +1

      Sorry to hear you have been left with a issue, my problem was very unique but either way it's not difficult to find out what's going on by either removing the valve covers or intake manifold, this will answer any questions for you

    • @jaseman32
      @jaseman32 13 днів тому +1

      @@garythegear I'd appreciate that. There’s a video on my profile of the valves after I adjusted the lash trying to fix the ticking. It sounded fine so I put it all back together and took it for a test ride where it would only knock under load. Now it ticks at idle so it's getting worse. I think it’s a lifter but I can’t pin down exactly where it’s coming from. The stethoscope sounds loudest from the top of the intake and not the valve cover. I'm mentally preparing myself to pull it all apart..

    • @garythegear
      @garythegear  13 днів тому +1

      @jaseman32 yes need to at least remove the intake manifold to see if there's any damage , my engine does not have adjustable valves it's a totally different set up , you may simply have a lifter issue and not damage the cam

    Since I Live in Dallas... I have let Dennis Wells who owns Wells Racing Engine (or whatever) rebuild my engines which I pull out of my car myself. He is in Duncanville Tx. now. Always done my engines right. But I do not race my '72's, I use them as everyday drivers. People say he is a little more expensive, but he does work correctly, and when he says he did something, you can bet he did. Where others, do rat kind of work I have seen so much of from others.

      Ya it's so important to have a trusted go to guy that does the job right and stands behind his work, it's also good to know there's still shops out there that care about the quality of work they do regardless of price, thanks for sharing Sean

    This is very sad news from GM. The assembler was only distracted for a sprit second to make this mistake, and I would hope GM would come good on parts and labour. So sad to see this but at least the rest of the engine should be fine..............

    • @garythegear
      @garythegear  3 роки тому

      Ya I'm sure hoping, we called GM today and spoke to the main tech assistance guy there to see if there was any chance of warranty being as it was a manufacturer issue with onle 3400 miles on it and they said no warranty has expired, I wasn't surprised

    • @Nova.1971

      @@garythegear They really need to step up to the plate and come clean on this one. It sure would be nice as it was a huge mistake. At least they should cover the parts. You paid up in the first place for this why should it cost more......!!!!!

    • @garythegear
      @garythegear  3 роки тому

      Ya I agree unfortunately the warranty on all crate engines regardless of brand is kinda a hokey deal, one thing that really boils my blood I have purchased 2 used cars and 2 brand new cars and 2 crate engines from the same Chevy dealership I think I've been a good customer but their rules are very much in place to protect them and not the consumer, I'm still a die hard Chevy guy just the same

  • @garyforestiere7732

    I’m surprised that no one has come out with a roller lifter that has a roller ball on the bottom you no like a roll on deodorant has might sound stupid but if it worked it would solve the problem of these type of roller lifters not sitting square on the cam it could follow the lobe no matter where wouldn’t need the keepers to stop them from spinning like flat tappet lifters spin with no problems

    • @garythegear
      @garythegear  2 роки тому

      Sounds like it could work but I think with high spring pressures there would be too much force on such a small portion of the ball and also on the cam that's why the roller is so effective, all the pressure is spread over the entire cam lobe and the roller giving the ability for larger ramp and high spring rates

    What a sad build, it's a seriously expensive goof for anyone and of course since your in a climate that gets winters you weren't running it to find out until the warranty was up on the build. Yikes.

    No! That’s BS!! I don’t know if you’re normally a combative guy but I’d be on GM like white on rice! With the automotive aftermarket being so cutthroat, I’d bet it wouldn’t take too many phone calls going up the chain to get them to send you the parts. Pffft what’s it gonna cost them? My guess is they’d rather send you a cam and a couple lifters for pennies on the dollar than to start seeing posts on the internet that GM Performance not only can’t assemble an engine properly but they won’t own up to it “because it’s off warranty”. I doubt they would want to chance even 1 engine sale. You just need to bark at the right guy.

    • @garythegear
      @garythegear  3 роки тому

      Unfortunately we did make calls to all the right people I actually threatened one guy about mentioning his name on my channel because he was so helpful but these warranties are what they are and it seems to me they do more to protect the seller than the consumer your right it would cost them nothing to make good on it
