I keep coming back to this. It's an incredible piece of writing at any pace, but all the more so because of that word right after the Smurf piece. "Yesterday…" Granted, the Eurozone crisis analogy could have been coalescing for longer, but the weaving in of Cameron's trip in one day with the production lead time-good heavens!
As a german, I get thrown this stuff at me in the news day and night and practically everywhere. Might I just say how fantastic a writer has to be to make such an overused topic genuinly funny? When I grow up, I wanna be John Finnemore. Please, please, please keep up the good work!
Excellent review of the current situation. Definitely the funniest take I've heard on it - Finnemore impresses once again! "My special invisible notebook" - classic!
...I think I finally understand it now. Dear god, did I really need this told to me as a "so and so walk into a bar" joke for me to understand it?! *hides in shame*
If a comedian can give a clearer explanation than the economists, where does that leave economics? My vote is to take control of economic policy out of the hands of economists and give it to the comedians. We certainly won't be worse off for the change.
brilliant, perhaps the new Lib Dem and forthcoming Labour leaders could propose him for a knighthood, i'd much rather have him contributing to the country's legislature than the likes of Lord Sewell.
Never mind that Germany and the others could've predicted that not everyone was going to have their wallets on them if they had pulled their heads out of their asses and not been so drunk on the neoliberal kool-aid when they invited everyone to the party in the first place. (Hint: it has to be a restaurant you know for sure everyone can afford or things risk going sideways.)

It’s been 11 years, are you John Finnemore now?
@@archerdork7116 I was John Finnemore between 2016-2019 and again for a brief 3 week period in the Autumn of 2022. I highly recommend it.
Dear God, he has the most spectacular wit of any man alive today
John, why must you be so absolutely brilliant? I'm crying with laughter!
Excellent!
Well, any regular Now Show listener knows that Jon Holmes is ideal for casting as a Smurf
8 years on and I'm still laughing.
Brilliant explanation, so very witty!
Now whenever I hear about European economics in the news, I think of this.
Living overseas ,first time I heard this, top hole

Fabulous
I love how posh britain sounds before it's revealed hes dressed as a smurf. :D
Let me add myself to the "Yay, I'm an American who finally understands the Eurozone Crisis" chorus line. We're pretty fantastic.
Basically a chat-up line - when you're trying to indicate that you're interested in someone.

What are starjumps? Are they like jumpingjacks? Sorry. Mr. Finnemore is really really funny, though! Please, please keep up the good work. Thanks!
"World War 2." Just made me die laughing and now my roommate thinks Im possessed.
I actually UNDERSTAND this now :L
Can John Finnemore just explain all political issues like this please?
"Brilliant"

sorry i'm not bilingual but what does a "cumon" (i don't know how people spell it) means ? thank you so much
I think it's come-on? I'm not really sure how that word is used, but from what I know, it's a term for trying to show interest in someone.
I think they are the same, yes. Just like, jumping and sticking your arms and legs out so you're in a star shape
