Resident Evil 1 Remake will be 20 years old next year... and the graphics still hold up as if the game was made this year. Somehow. I'm convinced Capcom made a deal with the devil to get REmake to look so good.
I'd love to see them use prerendered 4k backgrounds for a new game. Pre-rendered backgrounds, them basically just being images so the hardware could put all of its focus on the character models, were the biggest player in making this game beautiful.
And other Remakes was better if they was maintained the graphics of RE1 in 2002 instead to push that re engine and removing all the assets from the previous games, they will never release an decent remake anymore.
Oddly enough haters used to hate on the 2002 RE's usage of pre-rendered backgrounds like "oh but those aren't real graphics, fully 3D environments are superior."
Im amazed they didnt use the same tech for other remakes. I mean RE2R and RE3R are good in their own rights but they seem like shorts compared to RE1R which is a full gaming experience.

It's crazy how Mikami and his team were responsible for both the greatest third person shooter of all time (RE4), and the greatest survival horror game of all time (RE1 remake). Two games with different design philosophies and yet they both nail everything they set out to do.
Gotta love when Capcom puts a locked door at the beginning of an RE game and you don't get to unlock the door until you have played over 5 hours and it just leads to a useless area that helps you back track faster.
The original RE3 was ranked far too low in my opinion. To this day, Nemesis remains one of the best monsters in the series, Raccoon City is one of the most memorable locations and the branching story paths were really unique and greatly increased the replay value. And even though the remake fell short in many areas, I still thought it was more fun than you made it sound.

People forget that game was received pretty poorly at the time. A lot of people also either weren't around when it released (a lot lie that they were) and complain about the the exact things in the remake that people complained about when the original launched.

Imo there ARE serious parts of the story. And I kind of thought they meant like "it used to take itself serious" as a horror franchise more though. Where as 6, didn't really even try overall, and that's kind of where it fails.
@@CrazeeAdam If we go by that line of thinking, then re6 was never the first time the franchise started to take itself less seriously as horror franchise, as if that's inherently an offensive thing to do anyway. Re4 is a prime example of a game that took a big step in that direction. Re6 does try to have some horror. And even if it didn't, it doesn't matter because it is a resident evil game with many merits for what it is.

Yo, Resident Evil 4 AND 5 are masterpieces in their own right. Please don't sleep on RE5 because it's action oriented, it's hilarious and absurd, but that's why it's fuckin awesome (That's also basically why RE4 is awesome too, but it just has a bit more spooky feel).

I’m glad REmake is #1. I love RE4 but I don’t see how it can be the best Resident Evil game when its so different from the rest of the franchise. REmake is Resident Evil in it’s purest and most refined form.
It's not bad for sure. It's actually really good. I'd rate it above the Revelations games actually, but not too much else ahead of it. It's good, but not quite RE7, RE8, RE2 good.
Resident Evil 2 on N64 was my very first resident evil game . I'm so glad it and it's REmake are hailed as two of the best in the series. I feel like a proud parent.

The one saving Grace for survivor 1 is that the tyrant at the end of the game is probably the coolest tyrant of the ps1 era. With the long tongue and bulky ape body it really did look the best of them imo.

I’m happy that code veronica, is number 5 on this list it’s usually ranked lower on other lists. I think code veronica has a soft spot in my heart because it’s the first resident evil I beat that was old school.
It's still one of my favorites as well, and it really is underrated. I know everyone is desperate for a RE4 remake, but I really wish we would get a proper Code Veronica remake first (I doubt it will happen, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed).
I loved Dead Aim. And both Outbreaks. I remember digging the title screen music on Dead Aim a lot. And come to think of it, Outbreak's too. Especially Outbreak's. It makes you feel horror, and then it transitions to a sense of safety then back to maybe aware not out of this yet....
I gotta keep it real. RE4 was the game that caused the series to depart from Survival Horror and fully learned into the action-horror. I love RE4, and while there's one or two creepy moments, nothing was scary about it. It completely lacked that tension that was present in the first 3 games. That's not to say it isn't a benchmark for all 3rd-person shooters and a revolution within the genre. But it really doesn't feel like a RE game to me. It feels like a great game, it just doesn't share enough DNA with its predecessors to feel a part of the series. In reality there are 3 different RE styles. * 1-3 and CV was pure survival horror. * 4-6 is action-horror. * 7 and 8 are atmospheric survival horror.
Hey, I played 8 like 2 weeks ago and now have gone on a gameathon on Resident Evil Series. 1,2,3,5, Revelations ect and just started playing 4 today for the first time. I can already say 4 is what pushed it into a more action oriented game series. Say what u will about 5 but the game that started it was 4 lol. Literally plays like 5.

No way its my top 3.i know it wasnt as grand in scope but the random hunting aspect from nemesis...the opening scene with Brad in front of the police station.The scene with the guy hiding in the trailer with the screams in the background. I mostly agree or at least don't have an issue with these rankings....EXCEPT RE 3 so deserves a top ten spot. Should have switched with 0 imo. But, since RE 3 was the first one I finished on my own I'm probably biased....but it is still better than 0.
I’m not sure if RE7 was properly rated or underrated, I feel like the internet has really mixed opinion on it. I just know that RE7 for me was incredible
Some very weird fans say "it's not a REAL RE game", I'd argue it's more of an RE game than RE6, RE5 and even the Revelations games despite those games having more main characters and some usual tropes. But RE is a horror franchise based on survival. And that's what RE7 and RE8 are. And they end up being pretty core parts of the overall story in the end too. But yeah that's why I think. And regardless what nay sayers think, RE7 saved the series in the end. Without it we wouldn't get the shiny remakes we have now or the great RE8

I actually like the 2020 Resident Evil 3 Remake. I think it's extremely well made. Sure, I agree that alot of the original contents were cut/missing, but what's there is awesome nonetheless. I'm glad it has only a couple of DLCs. It's more of a full game than most games released in the last fifteen years. I hope the next remakes will have more contents not cut out and still be able to be different and the same at once.
I'm new to the community but I can already tell there's going to be some ridiculous fan discourse for me to take in. Like yeah, I can totally tell why RE3 is a somewhat disappointing remake compared to RE2 but come the heck on. It's clearly an excellent game, no way is it worse than games like outbreak, umbrella chronicles and the like. It's slightly worse than 2 which makes it slightly worse than the best of the best. You have to be extremely biased to score it that low, i get being salty but come on.
The only resi list that I nearly 100% agree with, I would have put code veronica higher than the 2 remake but other than that absolutely solid. 2002 REmake isn’t just the best resident evil, it’s actually the finest remake of any game ever, no other game has managed to keep a game grounded to its original roots but at the same time overhauling it completely. Absolute magic
Absolutely agreed man. The 2002 Remake is the best remake of any game ever. And it's nice to see Code Veronica getting some love as well, I have probably played it the most of any of the "old school" games in the series, and it really is overlooked too much.

In my (controversial) opinion, Revelations 1 not only is a better RE game than 4 but also a much more smooth transition from the oldschool tank controls to modern over the shoulder RE games. I know it's hard to picture this but just imagine if Revelations 1 was actually 4. It would have all the praise for revolutionizing third person shooters while also being a great traditional game with horror and lots of backtracking and shortcuts. PS: I really like 4 as a game but as a RE, the entire game after the village falls apart with the weird goofy Salazar, straight up chaotic "COD-like" sequences against dudes with gatling guns and much more. The game does have memorable parts like the first chainsaw guy, the Salazar's bodyguards (was it Verdugos?), the monster in that dropping platform sequence and of course the Regenerators, but as far as horror and anxiety inducing moments go that's about it.

My favorite one is still RE4, then RE2 remake, RE1 remake, RE5, RE6. These are the only ones that I have. RE5 and RE6 aren't good Resident Evil games but I like them for co-op.
You musst play RE 2&3 Original, they are a lot better than the Remakes. 9.5 and 9.0/10 Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica are very good too. 8.5/10 both RE4 Original and Remake are very good Games. 8.5/10 RE2 Remake is very good too. 9.0/10 RE Revelations 1&2 are both good. 7.5/10 both RE3 Remake and Operation Raccoon City are solide Games. 6.5/10 both BTW: There is no RE1 Remake only a Remastered with a few new Rooms and features and better graphic but both Versions are very very good. RE1 Original 9.5/10 and RE1 Remastered 10/10. I really not like Resident Evil 5 and 8. Good Games but that is not my beloved RE anymore. 7.5 and 8.0/10 RE7 too much hiding and run away from the enemy. That was more a horror game with jump scares than a RE horror survial Game. There was also no RE-Feeling. 6.0/10 RE6 is not a good game 4.5/10
I think the low ranking of RE3R is grossly unfair. Sure, much of the original content is missing, but if it is objectively viewed (without comparing it to the original), it’s actually a great game; and so much better than many of the rankings you put after it.
I think people were disappointed because it wasn't as stellar as the RE2 Remake, but yes it was still fantastic. It's not perfect, it does have flaws, it is very short, Nemesis is really not that threatening after the first couple encounters, but it was still a pretty good game in its own right.
It’s funny for my age group we were in middle school when Resident Evil 5 came out and we loved it cause it had the “cool factor”. I vaguely remembered 4 on the game cube but 5 (also the movies) was what got me and a lot of kids into the series. Now as adult I enjoy all of the originals and it’s lore. So I guess it all worked out haha
Same here, as a young kid I loved five for the co op with my buddies, these days I've grown to love every one of the earlier main games for different reasons. The series as a whole is just gangbusters imo

Spooky Atmosphere, GREAT Survival Horror Gameplay, Nice Puzzles, Good Replayability, and Solid Music. it was a GREAT Game and that's why both characters returned for GREAT sequels, Leon in RE4 and Claire in Code Veronica.
You might be able to say you enjoyed this game even though it has that serious flaw I am talking about. Everything else was very good indeed. But if you really do not understand what I am taking about or if you do not see this as a valid point of criticism than you are an absolute moron.

So a couple things....yes Resident Evil 1 Remake looked amazing then, still looks amazing now, and is fantastic, but I can’t give it the top spot. I would definitely say it’s in the top 3 though. The top spot in my opinion goes to Resident Evil 2. They took what was awesome about the original, refined it, and turned out to be the quintessential game in the series, and happens to be one of my favorite games of all tim. It’s nice to see that someone agrees with me on Code Veronica. Definitely is a top 5 title no doubt, and looks and plays great on the awesome Dreamcast. Now for the controversial opinion...I just don’t think Resident Evil 4 belongs that high, and I’m really not sure why so many people think that it does. Let me say this though, by no means is it a bad game. Quite the opposite actually, I think it’s a really good game. However, when it comes to being a Resident Evil game....it’s just really not. It’s mentioned in this video how RE5 and 6 aren’t really RE games, but somehow people seem to let RE4 slide on this aspect. It just doesn’t feel or play like one, and just because Leon is in it doesn’t make it one either. Back when it first came out, I was a big, big RE fan, and when I played RE4, I just felt let down that I didn’t get a real Resident Evil game, and at the time I thought it was because of the over the shoulder perspective, the lack of fixed camera angles, etc. However I was wrong about the reason why, as we saw with the RE2 Remake, and to a lesser extent, RE7, it doesn’t need to have those things to be a Resident Evil game, but there is just a mood, atmosphere, play style, sense of dread, and overall feel that makes a Resident Evil game a Resident Evil game, and I think RE4 lacks that. If it was called something else, I would have enjoyed it thoroughly and thought it was a top 20 game for the GameCube. Conversely, I don’t get why RE3: Nemesis is ranked so low, as it’s definitely a top 7 title. It is, first and foremost, a Resident Evil game in every sense. The character of Nemesis took the feeling of Mr. X in RE2 and multiplied it tenfold, leading to some real tense moments, it gave us branching paths instead of an A and B scenario, kept the puzzles, rewarded you with gun upgrades for taking Nemesis down, introduced an interesting gunpowder mechanic, and has the mercenaries mode. Point is, is that RE3 is a Resident Evil game, and a pretty good one at that. Zero is also another one that, when it comes to Resident Evil games, pretty much hits the Mark. It’s at least more of a Resident Evil game then 4 is. This might sound weird, but I think RE4 is a better game than Zero is, but I think Zero is a better Resident Evil game than 4. These are just my opinions from a fan that started playing the original Resident Evil as a 9 year old.
Number one should have been RE4. Rather if it was bad or trash. Its not just for nostalgia reasons but because it was a game that changed gaming and started a whole gaming trend and did so much for gaming. Will I say its my favorite game! No never played it or better yet don't remember playing it. Other Re games may be way more fun agreed. But none were as influential as re4 Games should never be ranked by nostalgia but by the game now or influence.
The Mercenaries 3D (3DS game), was patched to start an all new game later on. I still play it every now and again, like at the doctor's office in the waiting room. More of a guilty pleasure now
I've only played the first Resident Evil so far. Honestly, though it is very cheesy at times, the horror still holds up at times. I really enjoyed the game and loved the music. I think I found a new franchise to enjoy.
the revelations raid mode is my favorite extra feature , also revelations 2 had objectives and rewards that i would love in other resident evils , re3re would be replayable as hell with a raid mode.
I seems like the clips they showed from RE1 Remake for the GameCube were actually from the PS4 release of it. The way the characters are moving isn't always tank controls, which was an option for the PS4 release.

You put Resident Evil 5 way to low man i know it wasnt the best survival horror game and it didnt follow the previous games’s path but it really changed the game and opened the doors for a new genre to the serious , Co-op , online mode , mercenaries , DLC’s it introduced the game to a new Audience while also having good campaign experience and high quality graphics for its Time
I almost feel like resi 5 should be graded as two different games. Solo? One of the worst games in the series. Co-op? A heck of a lot of fun and would rank pretty high in my list. Sheva was pretty great too. I wish 6 hadn't killed the hope for another co-op entry in the future.
I really liked operation raccoon city as well. I thought that operation raccoon city was better than 5 and 6. A lot of people shit on it, I don't care, I'll say it. I enjoyed it

Game Cube had amazing graphics. Look at Twin Snakes and Metroid. I’m shocked how much better it looks then my own PS2 from back in the day.

People forget that game was received pretty poorly at the time. A lot of people also either weren't around when it released (a lot lie that they were) and complain about the the exact things in the remake that people complained about when the original launched.

Yo, Resident Evil 4 AND 5 are masterpieces in their own right. Please don't sleep on RE5 because it's action oriented, it's hilarious and absurd, but that's why it's fuckin awesome (That's also basically why RE4 is awesome too, but it just has a bit more spooky feel).

The one saving Grace for survivor 1 is that the tyrant at the end of the game is probably the coolest tyrant of the ps1 era. With the long tongue and bulky ape body it really did look the best of them imo.

I’m happy that code veronica, is number 5 on this list it’s usually ranked lower on other lists. I think code veronica has a soft spot in my heart because it’s the first resident evil I beat that was old school.
It's still one of my favorites as well, and it really is underrated. I know everyone is desperate for a RE4 remake, but I really wish we would get a proper Code Veronica remake first (I doubt it will happen, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed).
I loved Dead Aim. And both Outbreaks.
I remember digging the title screen music on Dead Aim a lot. And come to think of it, Outbreak's too. Especially Outbreak's. It makes you feel horror, and then it transitions to a sense of safety then back to maybe aware not out of this yet....
I gotta keep it real. RE4 was the game that caused the series to depart from Survival Horror and fully learned into the action-horror. I love RE4, and while there's one or two creepy moments, nothing was scary about it. It completely lacked that tension that was present in the first 3 games.
That's not to say it isn't a benchmark for all 3rd-person shooters and a revolution within the genre. But it really doesn't feel like a RE game to me. It feels like a great game, it just doesn't share enough DNA with its predecessors to feel a part of the series.
In reality there are 3 different RE styles.
* 1-3 and CV was pure survival horror.
* 4-6 is action-horror.
* 7 and 8 are atmospheric survival horror.
Hey, I played 8 like 2 weeks ago and now have gone on a gameathon on Resident Evil Series. 1,2,3,5, Revelations ect and just started playing 4 today for the first time. I can already say 4 is what pushed it into a more action oriented game series. Say what u will about 5 but the game that started it was 4 lol. Literally plays like 5.

Some very weird fans say "it's not a REAL RE game", I'd argue it's more of an RE game than RE6, RE5 and even the Revelations games despite those games having more main characters and some usual tropes. But RE is a horror franchise based on survival. And that's what RE7 and RE8 are. And they end up being pretty core parts of the overall story in the end too. But yeah that's why I think. And regardless what nay sayers think, RE7 saved the series in the end. Without it we wouldn't get the shiny remakes we have now or the great RE8

I actually like the 2020 Resident Evil 3 Remake. I think it's extremely well made. Sure, I agree that alot of the original contents were cut/missing, but what's there is awesome nonetheless. I'm glad it has only a couple of DLCs. It's more of a full game than most games released in the last fifteen years. I hope the next remakes will have more contents not cut out and still be able to be different and the same at once.
Other than having an inferior gore engine, it was just as good as the RE2 remake, which also cut a ton of content.
I'm new to the community but I can already tell there's going to be some ridiculous fan discourse for me to take in. Like yeah, I can totally tell why RE3 is a somewhat disappointing remake compared to RE2 but come the heck on. It's clearly an excellent game, no way is it worse than games like outbreak, umbrella chronicles and the like. It's slightly worse than 2 which makes it slightly worse than the best of the best. You have to be extremely biased to score it that low, i get being salty but come on.
The only resi list that I nearly 100% agree with, I would have put code veronica higher than the 2 remake but other than that absolutely solid. 2002 REmake isn’t just the best resident evil, it’s actually the finest remake of any game ever, no other game has managed to keep a game grounded to its original roots but at the same time overhauling it completely. In my (controversial) opinion, Revelations 1 not only is a better RE game than 4 but also a much more smooth transition from the oldschool tank controls to modern over the shoulder RE games.
I know it's hard to picture this but just imagine if Revelations 1 was actually 4. It would have all the praise for revolutionizing third person shooters while also being a great traditional game with horror and lots of backtracking and shortcuts.
PS: I really like 4 as a game but as a RE, the entire game after the village falls apart with the weird goofy Salazar, straight up chaotic "COD-like" sequences against dudes with gatling guns and much more. The game does have memorable parts like the first chainsaw guy, the Salazar's bodyguards (was it Verdugos?), the monster in that dropping platform sequence and of course the Regenerators, but as far as horror and anxiety inducing moments go that's about it.

I think the low ranking of RE3R is grossly unfair. Sure, much of the original content is missing, but if it is objectively viewed (without comparing it to the original), it’s actually a great game; and so much better than many of the rankings you put after it.

I think people were disappointed because it wasn't as stellar as the RE2 Remake, but yes it was still fantastic. It's not perfect, it does have flaws, it is very short, Nemesis is really not that threatening after the first couple encounters, but it was still a pretty good game in its own right.
It’s funny for my age group we were in middle school when Resident Evil 5 came out and we loved it cause it had the “cool factor”. I vaguely remembered 4 on the game cube but 5 (also the movies) was what got me and a lot of kids into the series. Now as adult I enjoy all of the originals and it’s lore. So I guess it all worked out haha

it was a GREAT Game and that's why both characters returned for GREAT sequels, Leon in RE4 and Claire in Code Veronica.

1st: RE3 Nemesis should be 2-3 places Higher and Moira can defend herself in RE: Revelations2, Just Not with guns
So a couple things....yes Resident Evil 1 Remake looked amazing then, still looks amazing now, and is fantastic, but I can’t give it the top spot. I would definitely say it’s in the top 3 though. The top spot in my opinion goes to Resident Evil 2. They took what was awesome about the original, refined it, and turned out to be the quintessential game in the series, and happens to be one of my favorite games of all tim. It’s nice to see that someone agrees with me on Code Veronica. Definitely is a top 5 title no doubt, and looks and plays great on the awesome Dreamcast. Now for the controversial opinion...I just don’t think Resident Evil 4 belongs that high, and I’m really not sure why so many people think that it does. Let me say this though, by no means is it a bad game. Quite the opposite actually, I think it’s a really good game. However, when it comes to being a Resident Evil game....it’s just really not. It’s mentioned in this video how RE5 and 6 aren’t really RE games, but somehow people seem to let RE4 slide on this aspect. It just doesn’t feel or play like one, and just because Leon is in it doesn’t make it one either. Back when it first came out, I was a big, big RE fan, and when I played RE4, I just felt let down that I didn’t get a real Resident Evil game, and at the time I thought it was because of the over the shoulder perspective, the lack of fixed camera angles, etc. However I was wrong about the reason why, as we saw with the RE2 Remake, and to a lesser extent, RE7, it doesn’t need to have those things to be a Resident Evil game, but there is just a mood, atmosphere, play style, sense of dread, and overall feel that makes a Resident Evil game a Resident Evil game, and I think RE4 lacks that. If it was called something else, I would have enjoyed it thoroughly and thought it was a top 20 game for the GameCube. Conversely, I don’t get why RE3: Nemesis is ranked so low, as it’s definitely a top 7 title. It is, first and foremost, a Resident Evil game in every sense. The character of Nemesis took the feeling of Mr. X in RE2 and multiplied it tenfold, leading to some real tense moments, it gave us branching paths instead of an A and B scenario, kept the puzzles, rewarded you with gun upgrades for taking Nemesis down, introduced an interesting gunpowder mechanic, and has the mercenaries mode. Point is, is that RE3 is a Resident Evil game, and a pretty good one at that. Zero is also another one that, when it comes to Resident Evil games, pretty much hits the Mark. It’s at least more of a Resident Evil game then 4 is. This might sound weird, but I think RE4 is a better game than Zero is, but I think Zero is a better Resident Evil game than 4. These are just my opinions from a fan that started playing the original Resident Evil as a 9 year old.
Number one should have been RE4. Rather if it was bad or trash. Its not just for nostalgia reasons but because it was a game that changed gaming and started a whole gaming trend and did so much for gaming. Will I say its my favorite game! No never played it or better yet don't remember playing it. Other Re games may be way more fun agreed. But none were as influential as re4

I've only played the first Resident Evil so far. Honestly, though it is very cheesy at times, the horror still holds up at times. I really enjoyed the game and loved the music. I think I found a new franchise to enjoy.

the revelations raid mode is my favorite extra feature , also revelations 2 had objectives and rewards that i would love in other resident evils , re3re would be replayable as hell with a raid mode.
I seems like the clips they showed from RE1 Remake for the GameCube were actually from the PS4 release of it. The way the characters are moving isn't always tank controls, which was an option for the PS4 release.
The Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PC and Switch all have the option to use alternate controls.
RE3 Nemesis is better than REV1, REV2 , and RE0. I was with you until you put it at #11.

I agree wirh no1. However I would not put code veronica over re3 and re3 remake(its my favourite part after remake1). I would love to play re cv remake over re4 remake. But its only my opinion and i doubt it happen.

I just got it recently
You put Resident Evil 5 way to low man i know it wasnt the best survival horror game and it didnt follow the previous games’s path but it really changed the game and opened the doors for a new genre to the serious , Co-op , online mode , mercenaries , DLC’s it introduced the game to a new Audience while also having good campaign experience and high quality graphics for its Time
I almost feel like resi 5 should be graded as two different games. Solo? One of the worst games in the series. Co-op? A heck of a lot of fun and would rank pretty high in my list. Sheva was pretty great too. I wish 6 hadn't killed the hope for another co-op entry in the future.
Resident Evil 5 is the best just because of Chris Redfield beating the shit out off that boulder
Operation Raccoon City is such a fun coop game. I love how the different characters had their own individual weapons and such.
