Every one of these testimonies should have 10 times the views it has. Each one could be a movie, except I'm sure Hollywood wouldn't do these stories the justice they deserve. I like hearing them in the survivors' words, without anything added. I salute them all for their bravery in recalling these traumatic events that shaped their lives for the benefit of others. Who would want to spend hours remembering such horrors? They did it because they wanted to help future generations. So listen!

I agree that they need to be heard and I admire these survivors so much. It's mind blowing. Have you watched Helen Jonas-Rosenzweig? Hollywood did make a movie around her experience and asked about it she said they did a good, accurate job. The only thing she said is that she wished they could've included more detail. The movie is 'Schindler's List'. If you haven't watched her testimonials I highly recommend it.l

I love that these testimonials are available. I have watched 50 or so videos. I'm still amazed at the resilience, strength and courage of the Jewish people. God bless and keep them. To know that many survived, and preserved their heritage for future generations is a blessing. I only hope that more people will learn from these testimonials that hatred is a waste of the human spirit no matter your religion or background.

I feel I must leave a comment so that even my one comment will count to support the holocoust survivors. In my opinion there is not one single testimony that is not interesting and I learn soo much from listening. Thank you to no end for coming out and telling your stories although it must be difficult to recollect (the terrible, horrible, inhuman parts of the holocaust). It was very interesting to hear the testimonies also of time before and after the holocaust. May God bless each and every person that survived/...and are still alive.

Imagine, not eating the bacon on the potatoes! Incredible steadfastness , such fidelity to your belief. I don't know anyone in my circle of humans including myself who would be so faithful. Len Getz!! What is this interviewing??? She’s a lovely lady talking about the worst nightmares of her life. Have some compassion and understanding and PATIENCE. I know this interview is more than 20 years old but wow, oh wow, a real example of how not to interview people, you can’t just interrupt, ask questions that actually have been answered, use this uninterested tone of voice, mumbling actually. I don’t understand you either most of the times! Absolutely shocking. You interrupted her when she was telling her own story few times and now we will never know.

If you have watched more of these interviews, the interviewers are all like this.....some are worse. This is being done for historical documentation, and that is why the matter-of-factness by the interviewers. Also, she was amazing with her recall, but as anyone would, especially with age and emotion, she sometimes skipped some things, and he was only trying to get a clarification of those to have on the record. She also is hard of hearing; so, sometimes she didn't understand correctly what he was saying. My only request would have been that he spoke up to her. I have watched a lot of these, and they are all like this, I believe for historical documenting purposes, and the interviewees do not seem to mind at all. They just want their story to be told.

    • @Sad_Bumper_Sticker
      @Sad_Bumper_Sticker 4 місяці тому

We must remember that these Testimonies were also intented as historically valid material, the interviewers were instructed to probe for specific historical details such as the names of towns and family members and dates of events.
I am so mesmerized by her account that I barely took notice his interruption detail requests.

Imo, the interviewer should have articulated his words & spoken a small bit louder; yet, a good solid interview. So obvious to me that this beloved survivor named Mina Kalter, had so much to say & all so crucial that at times the interviewer may have not meant to take her off track. All-in-All a beautifully tragic sublimation of a story of survival and love. I took a WW2 class in college & the professor was an American Colonel during WW2. My term paper was on Anne Frank in which I earned an A. And Anne Franks's step-sister is also a survivor in which in interviewed.

When I was little and learned about the Holocaust in 6th grade how it was taught was not really understood of the enormity of human suffering and genocide. I decided to go to the library and got an adult book The Holocaust and read it in its entirety. 40 years later I am still studying this and these movies are so important. I think of all the people who went through this and the ones that did not make it. I never forget. Its possible to happen again and I would not stand by not trying to help another human. If it was me I would hope someone would help. Humans are so "programmable" though I have serious doubts.

One strong lesson is that normally good people cannot be trusted to remain good for ever. Adverse conditions could make them do bad things. It is better for people who have an identify, such as Jewish people, to be self sufficient in their safety. Ideally there should be no identities, but that is virtually impossible to get because of the need to remember one's family history.

Obviously the interviewer is not rude as many of the comments here have said because he’s recording an interview so it won’t happen again. If he was rude he wouldn’t care about the holocaust and wouldn’t be recording her at all. He’s just trying to get the facts properly - I’m sure she and him discussed how this would be done. All of you need to calm down and see both sides.

This wonderful woman has a talent for the most intricate detail. And I'm sure there was so much to tell that she left some things out. How I would love to see this in a novel and in a movie. Even a made for TV movie. My husband and I always look for Holocaust movies to watch and don't find enough. As heartbreaking as her story is, it is told with such incredible recall. Her quick wit saved her many times; for instance, her ability to see some tiny light of hope to escape various circumstances. Jumping in the water after spotting reeds so she wouldn't drown; telling the Russian about the Jewish faith and being a virgin at marriage was so important in such a way that he seemed to respect that. She had integrity and courage that was remarkable. I would love to have known this dear lady.

I think it might have been more of a practical issue back then? People forget; even During the 50's there was still segregation. Less so in the north but even there; black people still weren't even allowed in a bunch of places, including colleges! and there was violence directed towards their communities. People forget how recent all this crap really was.

Interviewer just trying to clarify what she was saying...she often missed the point of his question but to his credit after a few attempts, he would let it go. Since she often didnt answer his clarification question, the listener is sometimes left hanging in frustration, unfortunately. But she and her life is truly!!! amazing.

I have watched many of these interviews, & it makes not one bit of difference if the interviewer is a man or a woman. They do not seem very friendly, in the least. For several of these survivors it is obviously extremely difficult for them to talk about it. When they are in tears and visibly upset, the interviewer does not say I'm so sorry, or reach over to take a hand, or anything. I just want to reach through the screen & give them a hug. I don't care for the interviewers. I wonder if any of them are Jewish. They seem like they are of Christian faiths, or maybe no faith, at all. Not sympathetic.

    • @allisonclepper7171

I am very disappointed in your comment, Patricia. While i agree that this interviewer seems cold at many times, and i don't care for him either, to assume that he is cold because he is "of Christian faiths, or maybe no faith at all" completely discounts the horror that this woman went through. She was subjected to horrible experiences because she was stereotyped, blamed, and hated for her faith as a Jew. To assume that people are unfeeling or uncaring towards this woman, a Jew, because they are Christian, is perpetuating ideas of hate. I am a Christian. I love all people. I feel for this woman. I've watched many of these interviews because i am amazed at their stories of bravery. I feel that the world needs to know these stories so that this never happens again. Shame on you for grouping all Christian people into one box, just like the Nazis did with the Jews.

The purpose of the interviewers is to help facilitate their subject to bring out the story in a way that helps draw a picture of family and community and conditions that otherwise might not happen. These are not just reminiscences of the past, they are more like witness statements, which is why they are called testimonies. Theinterviewerrsvare not cold or unfeeling their role is not to become part of the testimony. They do not have mikes themselves which is why their questions are heard to be much quieter. It is not seemly to keep criticising the interviewers, because without them these testimonies would not exist. They are used to cross reference statements and for study too. The witnesses themselves are aware of all this and it is a bit deal to decide to give testimony, and they will have prepared themselves for the event.

How many serian refugees did she take in during the pandemic? If she blames the world for not taking in people right after the great depression then she must have welcomed a lot of refugees into her home to save them from certain death. Have you ever done any video editing? There are hundreds of thousands of interviews. It is up to researchers and other interested people to extract what sections they want. Abridged versions simply would not be good, they would necessarily remove part of each persons testimony, and all the information is useful.
