- How to make an outdoor curved garden bench
In video I show how to make an outdoor curved garden bench from 2x6 Western Red Cedar. The methods that I use are similar to the methods I use while building benches on the jobsite. This build can be done with a drill, circular saw, jigsaw, sanders and a router. I use a few more tools for this build because I can. But they’re not necessary. I built the entire bench from six 2”x6”x8’ and one 4”x4”x8’ cedar lumber. It can be build with 2-1/2” screw only if needed. At the time of this build (10/01/2018) the cost of the build was around $150.00

I really like how this bench turned out. Most of my friends are calling it the 'Bacon Bench" for obvious reasons....What are your thoughts on the project?
As alway I have a the tools and materials for this build listed in the description. Thanks!
Funny friends 😂😂😂😂
"Bacon Bench"! That's awesome. Now I want to make even more!
mmmm... bacon.
Make Build Modify Haha! Bacon Bench was the first thing that popped up in my mind when I saw the thumbnail!
If you had a steam box you could've bent the wood into the wavy shape almost like a butcher block bench top. The wood would've had to be thinner than the 2' X 6"
i really loved the proyect, so beautiful!! one question, how much material is wasted? seems a lot? would you try to do something with it? thanks for the video, i learned a lot!
This bench is a home run, surprised it did not get 20x this many views. Thanks for sharing...
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Great project and video! Especially appreciated the walkthrough for making those curves. Could see that strategy being useful for lots of different projects.
Thanks Andrew! Yeah, it's a good one to have in your back pocket. I was thinking of making another of my "maker math" videos showing the process for finding the arc radius. They never really do that great but for the few that are interested it may of some value.
Really like this project, always like the details on how you lay out the geometry
Thanks! I like geometry too.
that's fantastic! just the tiniest bit of difference in the construction makes so much difference in the final look.
Thanks!
Very cool bench Justin. I love watching your videos. I always pick up something new I don’t know how to do.
Thanks Chad. It's been a while since I put out a video. I wasn't sure if anyone would watch. I'm glad you got something out of it.
Amazing work and a great presentation. Thank you.
Thank YOU for watching!
The use of the template was GENIUS! Those curves really made this bench stand out. Bravo!!
Thanks Eric!
Hey Justin! Nice design. I really enjoy your voice over narration. Just the right amount of information. I personally like working with Cedar. Even if you let it go silver, it'll still be beautiful. Hope to see you again soon!
Thanks Bernie! I Hope to see you guys again too.

You bet Gregg! Thanks for watching!
Man that bench looks amazing.
Thank you!
Excellent project,.. Thanks!!!
Thanks!
Thank you very much for an outstanding project presentation. I only needed a 6' bench to use with a table on our screened in porch. I used these plans to create a 6' bench with an additional 2' seat. Both turned out great. I finished them with two coats of McCloskey Satin Marine Spar Varnish thinned down 15% followed by two more coats full strength. I am hoping to get 3 - 4 years of wear before I need to refinish.
That's great! I'd love to see it. You can join the Make Build Modify group and share the project if you feel so inclined. facebook.com/groups/MakeBuildModify/
Hey, I'm from Indonesia. First, I'm sorry if my english not so well. It just perfect. I mean, for someone who just started to the carpentry bussiness like me, what I saw frow how you built this bench is so inspired me alot. Not just for how you built this bench, but for the whole techniques that maybe I could apply to the another woodworking project. You see, I was just about four months in this bussiness, and I learned a lot from something like this, and by watching your video, it was absolutely enriched my knowledge. Thank you for sharing. Thank you... Tank you... And thank you.
You are very welcome! Thank you for sharing your story! Inspiration is one of the reasons why I make videos.
I love your bench design and your build process. I used to use thin wooden battens bent around finish nails to draw curves in my old wooden boat shop I ran years ago. I like your method though - I think it's a more accurate way to get the job done. Thanks for the tips.
Yeah, I've used the bent wooden strips trick too. It can be a very useful way of getting the shape you want. Especially When you're on the jobsite with limited resources.
Class is in session ladies and gentlemen!!! Every time I watch one of your videos I learn something. Great looking bench and awesome video!
Thanks Dan! It's been a little while I was feeling rusty. Glad you liked it.
