  • How to make an outdoor curved garden bench
    In video I show how to make an outdoor curved garden bench from 2x6 Western Red Cedar. The methods that I use are similar to the methods I use while building benches on the jobsite. This build can be done with a drill, circular saw, jigsaw, sanders and a router. I use a few more tools for this build because I can. But they’re not necessary. I built the entire bench from six 2”x6”x8’ and one 4”x4”x8’ cedar lumber. It can be build with 2-1/2” screw only if needed. At the time of this build (10/01/2018) the cost of the build was around $150.00

    I really like how this bench turned out. Most of my friends are calling it the 'Bacon Bench" for obvious reasons....What are your thoughts on the project?
    As alway I have a the tools and materials for this build listed in the description. Thanks!

      If you had a steam box you could've bent the wood into the wavy shape almost like a butcher block bench top. The wood would've had to be thinner than the 2' X 6"

      Thanks Andrew! Yeah, it's a good one to have in your back pocket. I was thinking of making another of my "maker math" videos showing the process for finding the arc radius. They never really do that great but for the few that are interested it may of some value.

    Thank you very much for an outstanding project presentation. I only needed a 6' bench to use with a table on our screened in porch. I used these plans to create a 6' bench with an additional 2' seat. Both turned out great. I finished them with two coats of McCloskey Satin Marine Spar Varnish thinned down 15% followed by two more coats full strength. I am hoping to get 3 - 4 years of wear before I need to refinish.

    Hey, I'm from Indonesia. First, I'm sorry if my english not so well. It just perfect. I mean, for someone who just started to the carpentry bussiness like me, what I saw frow how you built this bench is so inspired me alot. Not just for how you built this bench, but for the whole techniques that maybe I could apply to the another woodworking project. You see, I was just about four months in this bussiness, and I learned a lot from something like this, and by watching your video, it was absolutely enriched my knowledge. Thank you for sharing. Thank you... Tank you... And thank you.

    I love your bench design and your build process. I used to use thin wooden battens bent around finish nails to draw curves in my old wooden boat shop I ran years ago. I like your method though - I think it's a more accurate way to get the job done. Thanks for the tips.

    • @Makebuildmodify
      @Makebuildmodify  5 років тому +1

      Yeah, I've used the bent wooden strips trick too. It can be a very useful way of getting the shape you want. Especially When you're on the jobsite with limited resources.
