It's a shame they didn't fix Saren's character model screw-up for the Legendary edition. He's not supposed to have all that techno-looking crap on him until the very end of the game, which adds so much weight to seeing him before the boss fight (around the 1:45:00 mark) when he talks about being upgraded and he's fully indoctrinated. Bioware apparently HAD another character model of him looking completely normal but, for whatever reason, it got overwritten by his indoctrinated/upgraded model. When I first played through the Legendary edition, I was so hoping they'd fixed that... but nope. I think it sorta spoils him... you know he's the bad guy right away. No doubt whatsoever.
It’s not too noticeable
If you play on PC there is a mod that fixes it afaik.
@@Zuriki09Link?
It's insane how lazy the legendary edition is. They really didn't fix anything important. But god damn the modding community is amazing.
@@FEVB Saren Stages LE1 Mod ;)
this was certainly a playthrough of mass effect
I have never been more whelmed
I strongly recommend you do side quests in 2. especially the companion quests. A couple of the DLC have core story elements for the 3rd game also.
I am a little sad so many side quests have been skipped, as I want MORE JSH playing one of my all time fave trilogies, but this is fantastic. Just wish I wasn't sleeping when he's doing it live.
Eh. With a couple of notable exceptions most ME1 side quests are very bland and don't add much to the story. I don't think we needed to watch Josh run around the same three prefab buildings two dozen times.
Very different in 2, of course.
2 hours is such a welming time for the finally of Mass Edfect. Thanks, Josh. I needed welming in my life.
I was quite exquisitely whelmed if I do say so myself
"finale"
1:04:17 Blaster Master: Blasting Again. Probably the best name for a sequel ever, except maybe Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo, but that's a movie, so it doesn't count here!
Came here from the twitch VOD just to say this
The ending music for this game has no rights to be this good, it's an absolute banger and the best ending music to any game I've ever played save for Portal 2 and Undertale
28:24 I can't afford a mortgage. I don't have back pain, but I've managed to injure both my knees. I'm dangerously hooked on sugary sodas. And I grew up watching cartoons like Fantastic Max, Dexter the Last Dinosaur, and later Beetlejuice and Reboot. I've lived long enough to see my shows and toys listed as "retro". My first game system was a Coleco vision, but I was still in pre-K when we got it.
I am so excited for him to play Mass Effect 2.
I'm dreading it. He's not talking to his crew. ME2 is going to be a massacre.
@@TTRPGSarvis And if IRRC you need to gather materials for upgrades.
@TTRPGSarvis I feel like Most me2 'first runs' are gonna be rough. Mine was.
@@TTRPGSarvis good. let him learn
@@mg1342mghe needs the one probe per planet mod but ofc he won't use it haha
That was in fact prothean statues, until they retconned it in ME3.
Kind of, he says that their civilization was made up of dozens of races, but due to the Protheans were the dominant species they were all considered Prothean and spoke that language as well.
@@ssfbob456that is also a retcon
it's been a joy watching you play this with fresh eyes
I'm so glad I got to watch you play through one of my favorite games of all time. Personally, I wasn't that bothered by the ending to ME3, I'm very curious to see what you think of it when you get there. I hope, when you have the inclination and free time, that you get the chance to sit down for a more relaxed, thorough playthrough because there's so much world building in some of the side quests, the codex, even the descriptions of planets. Many of the side-quests even have ramifications that carry through both of the sequels.
It's also always fun to see another person's custom Shepard and I've never played a full game with fem Shep before, so it was nice to get to see that as well. Can't wait to see more, man. Thanks for all the entertainment!
The Community reference in the beginning was excellent.
I am really excited for him to give ME2 the same attention. One of the best games ever made.
Mr Josh is a gentleman the likes we rarely see these days. You sir are inspiring.
Josh walking back his approach to that convo was refreshing, well handled, self reflective and responsible posting
Good stuff :)
Pandering to people who are easily offended. Bro just wants an easy life, it's understandable but don't think this 'do better' bollocks is anything but wokescolding
@@WookieWarriorz the people who just want it easy are the people complaining about people "getting offended" at things they should be offended by.
you don't want push back when you're wrong or worse when being bigoted.
@@WookieWarriorzyou seriously need to touch some grass. “Wokescolding?” Are you 12?
I do like the idea of an original version where Joker is the captain and main character, and Sheppard is the comically self-important sidekick who just shows up to report on ridiculous "away missions".
Thanks for uploading this, amazing playthrough!
Saturdays at 7, Sundays at 4.
Wait, that's it? Finished? Did I miss a vod or two inbetween or was this as fast a playthrough as I've seen???
Nah, ME 1 is incredibly short if you don't do any sidequests, I could probably finish it in 1 sitting if I did that tbh.
final already, no side quests/dlc?
Missed Bring down the sky DLC :(
Its sad to see he speed run the whole game and missed so much of what the game actually is. All the characters and unique missions like the dlc. Why invest your time in a game to rush thru it.
I think it's a good demonstration that Mass Effect is, in fact, so fucking good that you can skip the majority of its content and still have an amazing time with it.
I disagree, there's really not that many memorable or unique missions in ME 1, some do to establish the plot in ME2 but otherwise they're all pretty ignorable. Most of the game is the same genric Unreal maps glossed over with terrain tools and preset buildings copy/pasted.
As much as dedicated fans will appreciate it, id guess around 70% of the audience would be lost if this playthrough was like 12 episodes long with each being about 4-5 hours each, and frankly as much as i like mass effect 1, many of the side missions are very flawed. The pay off in later games for doing all the side quests is very nice but ultimately not essential.
Yeah, I properly played and nearly 100% ME1 for the first time last year, and so much of it was boring filler that had next to no impact on the game or over-arching story between games. It's the main thing that makes me pause and not just replay it over and over, as otherwise it's an incredible game.
Best that this was short and sweet rather than 70 hours of slogging through samey quests. Nonetheless, it is a shame some of the better character moments were missed.
It was a whelming run, thank you.
15:40 my 2cents on female custodees and only problem is that sisters of battle already exists which is an underdeveloped faction and this drama just takes more attention from them and the silent sisters already basically take the role of female custodees making the whole thing pointless anyways.
I do so love a Gavin Dunne/Miracle of Sound reference. :)
Josh would be a great IRL hostage negotiator.
I'd let him talk me down from a bank robbery.
The keepers guard the city and loosely ally with Garrett to try and stop the Trickster.
No but seriously, I've always wondered what happens if you don't complete the "help the scientists study the keepers" sidequest. Nothing. Got it.
I respect you a lot for the opening discussion. Baller move. Could'a needed a ukulele, tho.
Vest is back on.. the lore intensifies as he said he dont like spider man.
i am mortagage, but no quite the back pains yet
I pray someone let him know the garrus romance is youtube safe
"Playing in a fun way" means ignoring 75% of the game... I love Josh but sometimes he just makes really amazing games look bad by just not playing them. Then he always makes an excuse that its because of streaming and entertaining. I just hope he will play ME trilogy outside of stream and actually discovers how amazing this game is.
They all understood the assignment. It's not one of the best loved RPGs for nothing.
Man no dlc's and avoiding side quests? Such a missed opportunity
Henry Caville from Game of Thrones is my favourite UA-camr
Almalexia be praised!
Seeing how much he skipped makes me not too optimistic about the next two games😂
Chame , now he would never discover Tali's romance
get yer man hooks off my woman!
bucket-head wendy is *mine!*
Gaslighting your own customers is a really pro gamer move, lets see how it works out for GW.
I do enjoy the screeching of conservatives as if they're a majority.
Nobody cares about you.
That first 15 min was dangerously into the underwhelming
yeah i couldnt listen to that. he tried to came out of with a face after the failure take about female custodes
ME2 was the best of the 3. Just a heads up.
Would Ohio razz be more chest hair? Cause that’s what I’d vote.
After watching this entire playthrough, i have but one request. Josh, please never become a therapist. :')
Vid 4... Me1... HOW?!
What am I missing? Why is visa clipping JSH's content? Are we talking about the credit card company?
good video
IMHO... ME Andromeda isn't as bad as people make it out to be, now that a lot of the bugs are fixed. The game play is pretty decent and fun, though not well balanced. The story has massive problems, with many parts left unexplained or incomplete. That said, many of the problems with the story are because the game was planned as a sort of spin-off trilogy that was abandoned due to the hugely negative response at launch.
"many of the problems with the story are because the game was planned as a sort of spin-off trilogy that was abandoned due to the hugely negative response at launch."
That doesn't make sense to me. They wrote the story before the game launched, right? The backlash didn't make the game bad, because the game was already made. Sure, the negative response might have left the trilogy abandoned, but that should matter: the story has to be good on its own first. You don't wait for a trilogy to be completed, before retroactively deciding if the first installment was good. The first game just has to be good, like with ME1.
The gameplay and progression were the best in the series. The writing and dialogue were dreadful.
I wanna replay it, but every time I do, the dialogue makes me cringe like a cartoon character eating a lemon
I don't remember the bugs in Andromeda. I remember being very bored from the repetitive gameplay a few hours in. It felt like a story written by someone who watched a synopsis of ME and made a game based on that.
please do not make excuses for Andromeda. The massive amount of negativity at launch about the bugs and state of the game massively overshadowed the fact that the game is straight up awful in most regards. The gameplay is the only thing remotely worth discussing, and i still prefer the trilogies more grounded take.
Yea I loved the game honestly. The story wasn't as good but the combat and world were excellent
Hey Josh, dunno if you ever read these comments.
But just wanted to say that I still disagree with you about the Custodes thing, but I think your apology was a major class act. Thank you.
Eh, there’s nothing else on so I suppose I’ll watch this.
A baffling run. This dude spent more time reading the codex and planet descriptions than interacting with other characters and exploring the world. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy the journal reading but not at the expense of actually playing the game. Hard to see who this play through was for.
I am too whelmed because he missed the DLC(not like the game makes it obvious)
have to respect your nuanced and mature take on the WH kerfuffle.
Double commenting; cringe, L + ratio, etc, I know, I know.
Josh. I have a proposition. You seem to really love the story, world building, and characters of Mass Effect, and your fans want you to do more side content. I propose that you at least focus on the crew Loyalty Missions as you get to know the crew in ME2 for the purpose of those very reasons; characters, stories, and world building. Even some of the more boring characters I found a newfound enjoyment of because I chose to engage them with their story, and now, their stories are parts of my stories. See what I'm getting at?
I don't think it's expected that you do every single little side quest, but the crew loyalty missions I think deserve just as much attention as the rest of the story. A story is held up by the strength of its characters.
Oof a whole paragraph, dude take your meds that's a bit much
@@Ragna_ragetelling someone to "take your meds" because he wrote "a whole" paragraph....
I wish I was there to vote plz God make it stop
You know what, good on you for apologizing for your previous take. I was considering stopping engaging with your videos after that but I'll stick around now I think. I know one person doesn't matter much to a channel as a whole but, just saying good job noticing you were wrong and not just doubling down like most people online.
If the story is good there would be no bad rep, so clearly even if you are uneducated on the topic Female Custodes are a bad story, plot, marketing point.
Female custodes have been in the lore for years so they have always been there. It's not condescending at all.
No they haven't, dont lie.
@@nunyabusiness7942 Someone is a fake fan…
@@nunyabusiness7942 I was going to leave it at that since your response was so idiotic and hostile but Calladayce Kesh wss in the lore before 10th edition.
@@Tamaxlia she was a new change with *this edition*, stop making up bullshit to defend games workshop’s stupid retcon. Calling someone else a fake fan when you’re making shit up lmao
bro you know there are ppl who are w40k fans since the 90s and can spot a liar like you? youre a nobody. i know you want attention by just straight up lying but cmon. dont be a kiddo and say "na ah i am right, you are wrong"
What's wrong with Warhammer being a "boy's club"? Not everything has to be for everyone.
and thats the thing with todays world. instead of making new chapter line with only females or just retconing sisters of battle to be a more meaningful faction , they just ruin 50 years of lore :)
Then how will big companies appeal to everyone and make more bucks?
@@TykoBrian7these kind of moves just alienate both sides.
Nobody wants to be a cheap insert just for the sake of it.
And nobody wants to bend over backwards to somehow make sense of such a cheap insert.
Does every hobby need to be representative of every demographic?
And quite frankly, you belittling others is likely what you think normally, so any such apology is rather suss in its authenticity.
and i have straight problem. introducing female custodes is a shitty woke move. why not making a NEW chapter only female chapter while coming close to w50k ? why adding such a change that breaks entire logic of the lore? WHY? where were female custodes during horus heresy? hmm? GW literally sabotages their own franchise and i hate everyone who is ready to defend that. ive lost enough franchises to woke garbage, forced feminization. look at star wars , dr who, star trek. i get it that josh is a type of dude to agree with those who are "in the minority" but cmon my man. you dont have to be different than majority everytime. i get it youre slick witty and sarcastic but you dont have to fall into the rabbit hole of supporting straight up woke moves by some greedy corpos. you had 0 arguments of supporting that cause. why not retconing sisters of battle, make them more meaningful? why not making female orks? i want female orks hmm? where is my part of the cake?
Define woke
@@TykoBrian7 Carefull if you keep trying to apear that dumb people might just start believing you...
@@TykoBrian7woke is, when people obsess over superficial traits and put people into two boxes, based on these superficial traits - either you are oppressed or you are an oppressor.
They hate everything that they view as oppressors, which usually means everything "western" or "conservative" (as in: traditional).
For example: Christianity, the family unit, "straight" people, white people...
It is basically bigotry in different flavour - not against minorities, but the majority (because the majority is by definition oppressive in their book)
Edit:
The problem with this ideology is of course, that they are going after all the perceived enemies and inject their ideology into every part of society aggressively.
Examples that exist, where they force their message in:
- Public places like streets and stairs (painting them in "their colours")
- groceries / daily products and stores (that pander to them and fly their flag)
- sports (kneeling and attacking female sports)
- movies, fairy tales, comics, games (taking already existing franchises and changing them to fit their demands, thus imposing their ideology onto others - e.g. a black "snow white")
- history (black cleopatra, black viking jarl and other historical figures getting their skin colour switched to fit the ideological demands)
I can go on, but.. you get the picture
