    I don't get it. If the Church is the Mystical Body of Christ (Jesus) why do people call it "Mother"? When did that start?

    • @accidentalbreakfast1605
      @accidentalbreakfast1605 3 роки тому

      great question! because She is the bride of Christ, our Bridegroom. as we know in matrimony, a wife’s body is her husband’s body and vice versa

      @@accidentalbreakfast1605 Is Jesus both husband and wife? No, He is not, so why use a feminine noun and pronoun?

    • @accidentalbreakfast1605
      @accidentalbreakfast1605 3 роки тому +1

      @@FranklinPUroda Well, one reason is because while the Church is the "mystical body of Christ", the Church is not literally Christ, as in your or my substance is divine although we be members of the mystical body undergoing theosis, unlike His True Body on earth or in the Blessed Sacrament.
      Another is that, Jesus is the spouse of every soul, *analogously* we all have "feminine" souls in that the Godhead (even without Christ's male human body) is referenced with masculine pronouns since He is seed-sower of grace, if you will, and we respond in a "feminine" way. (We could go down this way in defense of Marian devotion.) Now, this all sounds pretty strange, being Christian man and calling Jesus your husband, but in a way, the analogy describes the truth better than a "direct" explanation. Just check out some of the mystical writings of St. John of the Cross.
      It's important to recognize the value of *analogy* in calling the Church our Mother, Christ's bride, Christ's body. After all, we will never comprehend an infinite Nature with our finite natures, but we able to love Him with His very same Love, because He is Love.
      I hope some of this is coherent:)

      @SlimeKetchup14 The Church is not only a building or a number of buildings, but a transcendent organization founded by Jesus upon St. Peter and the Apostles in order that they might sanctify people in their ministry by Christ's agency. The Church is called "the Bride of Christ" in holy scripture because it is to these people that Christ is 'wed' in spiritual (and through the Eucharist, physical!) communion.

      There is nothing wrong with receiving the Eucharist by hand, so long as you give it proper reverence & respect. I don't think Jesus put the bread He broke on the tongue of His disciples when he instituted the Eucharist, but handed it to them even if they didn't really know what to think of it.
