♡♡THANK Y'all VERY much for posting this & explaining everything very simply!! ♡♡You are helping SO MANY people like me who NEED to hear this to feel encouraged, stay focused & on track! Not only did I lose 100lbs with this lifestyle...I found energy that I didn't even know was possible! I finally felt like I had the same energy as everyone else around me...maybe more than some! which is much better..than... always feeling too tired to do anything that me or my family wanted to do. After a couple years...I allowed myself to veer off track when life's challenges became overwhelming to me. Thankfully, I have your videos to keep me in line & remind me why I need to look at this just like any other medical condition that needs treatment...making myself a priority & practicing self-care to feel my very best for myself & my family. So, anyway...Heartfelt thanks again for all of your help!

Would love a video talking about the difference between total carbs and carbs from fiber. I've lost 40lbs so far doing keto religiously for 4 to 5 months. I avoided all carbs - tried for less than 20 a day (ate my veggies without carb counting) but have been hearing a lot of the difference between total carbs and carbs from fiber. Wanted to know if you had an opinion! :) thanks!

It had been several years since I had read for pleasure because I could not concentrate. In the last few weeks I have read 10 books (400-500 pages)!

Dr. Berry, Dec7, 2017 my surgeon told me I would have to lose 13 pounds to do my knee replacement so I started KETO For me and my husband - I figured it would be gone by February 2018 - I only lost 2lbs but I wasn’t ready to give up. I am 66yrs old -a type 2diabetic with malabsorption issues and celiac. It would have been easy to stop but I was determined. I had spent 40years with both knees bone on bone and the past 18years walking with my right knee slightly bent to reduce the pain in that knee while walking.. I started intermittent fasting the weight started melting so instead of going right back into KETO i did carnivore. Wow really lost a lot of weight lbs. So the bottom line is from Dec7, 2017 to Feb. 7, 2018 I only lost 2lbs - but from Feb. 7, 2018 to Oct 14, 2018 I lost 52 lb..... Right knee completed, 1done and 1 to go. A1C 5.5 and all other under control.

Welll I had done keto and prolonged fasting and had great results. Then i changed jobs and everything changed and I put the weight back on and shortly after this i was haveing shortness of breath and my chest was tight. I told the ppl at new job they sent me to the ER I ended up having a triple bypass. None of that was from the keto diet it was from a life time of high insulin and bad eating and they say smoking.well i quite smoking and since i put weight on after recovering some they think it is chf. So after our family dinner 12/25/2018 I am now going back to fasting and keto. Last night 385.2 lbs this morning 378.6 when i woke up all might be water coming off but much needed goal 200 to 230. I am 42 and this video make me have the faith I can still get this done and have another 40 plus yrs. Thank you Doc.

I went to a family thing yesterday for Christmas and the food was ridiculous, lol They wondered why I wouldn't eat anything,I'm like I'm keto, well they laughed about it as they were stuffing cupcakes and fudge into their mouth all while complaining about their health and how fat they're getting. I pretty much sat there calm and quiet. I gave them some info but I could see nothing was sinking in,so I let it go. Besides losing weight and more energy and believe it or not a way younger feel,I noticed how calm I have became. I used to be bummed out and high strung and jumped at every little noise. but now,wow and I just noticed that about me yesterday. Also I used to be vegan before I went keto and being a vegan totally messed me up.

I do not eat plants. I did Keto for a really long time. Now my dietary regimen is as close to Zero Carbs as possible. Only animal products.with the exception of the spices to flavor my fatty meats and fish. I will be 70 years old in May. My muscle mass is much like it was when I 50. I have lost some muscle in my gluteus maximus. I have begun an exercise program to reverse it. My upper body musculature is excellent. I have pecs that look like I been doing bench presses and my biceps are still pretty good. I have lost tricep mass due to nerve damage from 4 collapsed cervical discs. Over all though my muscle mass is still good.

I noticed that some of the young people I have been following for keto lose weight rapidly and can switch back and forth in and out of keto and keep losing weight. It took me awhile to realize that I am older and just different from the younger people who are doing this. My body is very reluctant to lose any weight even though I've stayed on a pretty strict less than 20 grams of carbs a day and I enter my foods into the program Cronometer religiously. It's taken time for me to find a balance on keto where I don't even want junk food except very rarely when something triggers me. Then I don't eat it, and the desire passes. Still, I haven't been losing weight much, so I have just quit weighing for now.
Diabetes is something that runs in my family. It killed my mother and both my older brother and sister have it. I am doing this to prevent diabetes long-term. I have clearer mental focus and I no longer have hypoglycemic episodes like I used to. Watching people's UA-cam channels encourages me to keep doing keto long-term. Thanks for acknowledging that we are different as we age and success for someone like me can be not gaining weight, even though some 20 and 30 somethings lose tremendous amounts of weight rapidly.

Seeing 70 in my near future. My strength has been good. I failed my body with diet. Unknowingly. Going into menopause and experiencing the physiological slow down I attributed my creeping weight gain to “the change” and I listened to the SAD. I should change my diet. I had, unknowingly, been eating a KETO way my whole life to this point. Never issues with energy weight etc. Was that thin lean muscular female, without any effort. All because of my diet. Ahh, but then I became that matronly older female. Thought that was it. Until I got some blood work and I about passed out. My Dr. didn’t even blink at my #’s, or the high markers. Just wanted to give me a statin. NOT. I told her “no way” I’d see her in 90 days. Sat myself down started doing some reading and watching a couple YT videos, came across your KETO get started video. The lights came ON. That is how I used to be. Was Lean and Healthy and ate that LCHF way. Am deep into KETO.
I’ve dropped 20lbs very quickly experienced the Great changes already. My 90 day blood draw is fast approaching can’t wait to see the #’s. Am strict LCHF, moderate weights and moderate walking, “again”. Feeling so good and optimistic.
Side note I had an accident at 60 and had my right leg amputated. I embraced the reality and am fine with the amputation. My mobility and health going into my Senior years is top priority. Dropping the weight, and continuing to do so is huge. Wish me luck in my Health Span Journey. Love your passion.

Thank you Dr Berry. I’m glad I found you .Unlike most people, I am trying to gain weight. I lost about 20 lbs of muscle mass when I was vegan. I am 57 and I grew up in Japan with a high carb low meat diet . Meat was just too expensive . I have had IBS and gut issues all my life. I was afraid to go Keto because I was told by trainers at the gym that Keto was only good for fat loss and not for muscle gain. So I went straight into carnivore. I did lose some weight but mostly bloat around my lower abdominal region . My digestion is great, no more stomach issues .

I check my ketones twice a day and I'm between .05 to 2.0 and with Christmas cheat day I was still in ketone range. I haven't lost anything in 3 weeks. I'm assuming it's my age but when I hear others losing weight I want to give up. I have 29 lbs to lose. I don't feel the energy at all that others say they feel. Glad I didn't buy anything, I'd want my money back.

I know I need to build muscle but have no clue where to start. This is what threw me about carnivore. I did it when I was very young. I made it 10 days. I was feeling so sick and tired all the time that I confused the meat with something unhealthy. For me, there has to be a balance. I do about 80% carnivore and 20% everything else. It's always a mix. If I have toast, it has a ton of real butter on it. Everything is complemented. But, because I thought carnivore was unhealthy for me, I tried to go vegetarian. And then I found out what was like to be really sick! Thank you for everything you do. Thanks for keeping me on the straight and narrow. I've only been doing this a little over a week, and I cannot believe the difference. I haven't been this happy in years.

Excellent, Dr. Berry. I keep telling folks 'one size does not fit all' when it comes to Keto/Carnivore. A ketogenic diet for weight loss is different than a keto diet for a type ll diabetic. For those who are severely insulin resistant(as I was), they may have to cut their carbs even below the recommended 20%. My food choices were closer to a carnivore than the classic Keto. I did eat avocados and asparagus(small portions) Lots of fatty meats and fish( Alaskan Salmon & Sardines)

What a delightful video. I will be 81 in March 2019, began Keto on Mother's Day of 2018, after being insulted by an Endocrinologist who put me on the "latest" and "greatest" diabetes meds--both of which had such terrible side affects that I said to myself, "I will NOT spend whatever time I have left on this planet feeling this way!" He also insisted that I go on insulin, something I had already told him I wouldn't do. So I perused the internet and came up with your site as well as the Diet Doctor site. Since then, I have lost 40lbs.--a wonderful side affect of the Keto (Let's say LCHF) way of eating. However, I struggle with eating enough fat--I have a chronic diarrhea problem, lymphosytic colitis, that I've had for about 5 years, and have been on a corticosteroid that has seemed to be the ONLY treatment for this problem. "They" have said that the only way to deal with the problem--they have no cure because they don't have a cause--is to not eat a rich, high-fat diet. In spite of that advice, I have been able to lose the weight that I've been trying to manage for the past 25 yrs. In fact, I reasoned that if the LCHF protocol could help with inflammation and other maladies, over time I just might be able to deal with the colitis. So, I stopped my corticosteroid in October and haven't looked back. This was not an easy decision--it took several weeks of you-know-what for my digestive system to calm down and, depending on how much fat I consume, I still have occasional bouts of diarrhea. Therein lies my problem--I have a lack of energy due to not consuming quite enough fat, but I will not go back to the high carb I had been doing for so long. I guess my reason for this epistle is to find a compromise that I can live with for the long term, because I feel so much better eating this way. I am a Type 2 diabetic and probably have been most of my adult life. As a result, I'm also Stage three CKD--thank goodness the LCHF protocol promotes "moderate" protein. I have several issues with certain food groups, so am dealing with that, also. BUT, I'll deal with that, rather than go back to the SAD way of eating. I sure appreciate you, Dr. Berry, and also what looks like a new way of looking at Keto--a more relaxed way of dealing with food and with life--with Nurse Cindy. Makes me happy!

I'm 68 yrs old, have been on keto almost 5 months and have lost 20+ lbs. I've had chronic inflamation & reflux for years and would say those symptoms are reduced but not gone and still flare up even though I don't ever cheat. I hope to be able to continue eating this way for the rest of my life - don't have cravings at all and don't miss the foods I don't eat any more and feel so much better over all. But my 88 yr old mother who is a heart patient (etc) thinks I'm putting my health in serious jepardy because I'm not eating grains and fruit ......the standard American diet. My question is - what more could I be doing to eliminate my inflamation & reflux? And is it safe for me to stay on keto forever?

My keto journey has been an up hill climb if I am going to be honest. When I started I was 116 lbs. I am now 129lbs. I am menopausal which is super hard to battle against. I work out with weights, cardio and zumba dancing, but I continue to gain weight. I did have my hormones checked. My cortisol is a bit out of whack and I am stage one Adrenal fatigue. I have been balancing my hormones with supplements for about 1.5 months. On the upside I am healthy. I currently have a cold which is the first one in about a year, which was unheard of prior to keto. My energy is good. I can go hours with out eating. So some positives and some things to work on. Any advice on the hormone issue? I am 53 and really hoping I will be out of this time of life soon. I really need to see the weight loss benefits of keto.

"You only lost 2 pounds over the year, but congratulations, you didn't gain 5 pounds."
That is some of the best advice to give to people that feel like they are struggling. A lot of people rely solely on the scale to determine their progress and it creates a lot of dissatisfaction. Just knowing that a minimal weight loss is far greater than a continuous weight gain is invaluable.

I am 88; started Keto on 13th October because I realised I had a craving for sugar that I wanted to get rid of. I also suffered from reflux. Although not much overweight, I have always struggled to keep that way. To my surprise, my cravings stopped as soon as I started Keto. My reflux no longer prevents my sleeping on my right side. It still troubles me, but I can usually ward it off. A painful shoulder that stopped me sleeping on my left side has gone.
I realise that these things are trivial compared with the health problems suffered by many of your followers, but I would like to manage my old age well, especially as I live on my own. I do not take any medication. I have fallen fairly naturally into intermittent fasting, eating 2 meals a day (sometimes 1) with around 18hrs fasting. I have found all the help to do this on UA-cam.
Unfortunately, I found I couldn’t hear this video. All the other videos of yours have been clear, perhaps because you were nearer the camera. If, as I think I gathered, you are talking to older people, many of whom are hard of hearing, perhaps you could do something about this. I have no technical knowledge, but might it be a matter of using two microphones? Not too keen on the view of two pairs of feet!

Regina, I think that amount of weight loss is good. I lose weight much slower than that. Too rapid weight loss can actually be bad and trigger negative cardiovascular events (i.e., heart attack). (I'm not in the medical field, but I read a lot of medical literature.) Also, is your blood sugar high? If your blood sugar is high, you may find it more difficult to lose weight. Metform might help if you are able to tolerate it. It takes time to get used to and your other health problems might preclude you taking it.
