- A recent rash of violence has left business owners and shoppers at San Francisco's Stonestown Galleria mall on edge. They tell reporter Wilson Walker the ongoing violence is nothing new.
If you think the mall went to trash... you should see the school system.
From which those brawling students come.

I watched the video, the clips of young people fighting are 3 or 4 seconds long where everything is jumbled and unsteady, the camera is blurry and the faces are blurred and everyone is wearing hoodies. you can't tell what ethnicity or race these youths are. And the police said it was mainly white, hispanic/latino and asian. Are you saying the police are lying?

Ban all children from all stores unless under supervision of an attending parent or guardian. Make it a privilege to grow up and enter a business when they can be tried as an adult over 17. It worked for a minute mart in Medford Oregon. It should be nation wide.
That's exactly what they should do. Have to be accompanied by a parent or an adult. I have seen this policy in particular malls before and it does work effectively.

That's sad that it has to happen. Back in the day parents would drop kids off at mall and we'd just shop, go to movies, eat and hang w friends. Fighting or anything violent was the last possible thing on our minds.

It's not the 'skin color' thats the problem. It's lack of morals, lack of discipline, poor training, poor influence, & etc that is causing these problems every day. People 'choose' to 'act' disorderly and think the rules don't apply to them individually. This happens just about anywhere regardless of a color shade.

I haven't shopped regularly at Stonestown since I moved out of the nearby neighborhood Park Merced back in 2009. Plus, there really aren't (m)any appealing retail outlets there anymore unless you like sports, clothing, or sugar. But what you see in this video is what teachers deal with on a regular basis! And I am a teacher. I have seen these same types of brawls unfold in my classrooms many times before. When children of any age aren't raised with any moral values whatsoever by their parents, this is exactly what happens!

@@panictryouts I agree that Trader Joe's and Target were good additions to the Mall. I shop there occasionally if I am in the area, and often go to the Apple Store if my devices need some fixing. And I even eat at the Stonestown food court if I am hungry while shopping. As to what has changed in the last year: I would say the fact that growing numbers of kids out there (teenagers and some kids of other, younger ages too) really do not know how to interact with one another peacefully and healthily when it comes to dealing with disagreements of any kind, large or small, between them, topped off by the fact that they spend more time in front of a screen than face to face with other human beings in person in general, has taken a tremendous--almost irreversible--toll on their social skills and logical thinking at large. Of course, this doesn't go for everybody under 18. But creating a scene seems to be the happening thing now for some minors, as does filming it and sharing it with the online world just to gain Likes and followers! TikTok challenges have only fueled the fire. It's a 100% internet-technologically driven generation that the world is now witnessing in the flesh!
@@MikeNolan Yeah, the closures of Tower Records and Borders several years apart from one another made me not miss shopping at Stonestown after a while. Those were the last two intellectually stimulating retail outlets at the Mall. I used to go there all the time in high school and college in the 1990s and 2000s. Marbles The Brain Store was a great but brief addition to Stonestown as well. A pity it didn't last.
Also: did Mrs. Fields close for good as a chain? I was at the Tanforan Shopping Mall earlier this month and the branch of Mrs. Fields at that location had also closed.

Oh yes they can, and have the right to refuse service to high schoolers, given this repeated fighting throughout the mall. It's not illegal, but high schoolers are also a great source of income to the mall as well .

I grew up in San Francisco in the 60s and 70s. Stonestown couldn’t of been a more peaceful place to shop. Almost boring if you were a kid. But it was a whole different demographic. People had self respect and respect for others. This demographic you see now, time after time, city after city has neither self respect nor respect.
Even the 80s in SF isn't as bad as it is now, we used to take BART to the city every weekend to bike in Goldengate Park as teens and never had a problem, we managed to not loot or beat folks. Even when we'd catch a show at The Stone at night, it was fairly safe, just had to step over a few homeless and their urine puddle, I can't imagine going there now.

Dang. I used to go shopping in the malls and downtown, alone and in a group as a teenager in the 1970s. There was no violence. What is making people so violent? Why are American citizens so angry now?

People used to be poor and the children didn't steal, nor were they violent in school 🏫 or elsewhere.
It's really simple to stop all this violence, just put three security guards in each entrance of the door from that mall. And don't let High School minors get into the struct the mall, or in groups, or write him off with a ticket or give him a rest and take him to a Juvenile jail for that way they can learn their lessons locked up.

Stonestown in a sense, hasn't recovered from that rat incident where that big rat was on one of the display cookies at the Ms. Fields that used to be at Stonestown.... This fight was unfortunate and sad to watch. Definitely not a good look for Stonestown and is lowering it's value.
I enjoyed going to Stonestown when I would sometimes go there in between or after classes when I attended SF State between 2007-2010. Stonestown today isn't what Stonestown was back then. Never understood why they got rid of Olive Garden and Chevy's. Yes, they have a Whole Foods there now and that pizza place, but Stonestown is not the same.
