Although I love the DiMarzios and they really do sound great you can make a massive difference to the sound of your guitar just by the change in pedals / Amps or software setting in programs such as Amplitube. Just about getting a sound you love.
Raising the pickups closer to the strings works only up to a certain point. Beyond that you get weird overtones and dampening from the strong magnetic pull. Generally, you want them to be as far away from the strings as you can get away with, without sacrificing too much volume.
The DiMarzio have a wider sounding frequency response. But they are crappy split. The DiMarzios sound better as full humbuckers. I would have to rewire the circuit so that the humbuckers do not split at all. Even then, the Infinity pickups are better suited for this 5 switch/split configuration. Would be curious to see what the Duncans would do.
Fully agree turned out there was a fault with the Super Distortion Bridge pick up. Since this video I had it changed and also had the 5 way switch changed to something better and now sounds fantastic on all 5 positions. Both the Humbuckers are fantastic for distorted sounds and the single coil middle is great for clean tones.
There was an issue with the Bridge pickup and it got removed and sent back to DiMarzio for a free replacement due to the fault. If you check out a couple of more recent videos you will hear a big difference on the split position (4) I thought at the time it might be inverted wiring as well but guitar shop checked and it was correct.
the infinities definitely had more warmth to them. The Dimarzios got a little thin but it way less mud too and more tonal options…honestly a pickup set in between the two would probably be ideal. I’m guessing you were diming the tone pot? in that case it’s dimarzio hands down since you can roll back some of those highs
This has been an interesting journey and i don't think i am done yet. Its clear the Infinites are better for clean tones (why i am keeping my GSA60) but think the Dimarzio's are better for distorted tones. I also think that there is a wiring fault which is effecting position 2 and 4 as they sound way to thin and no warmth at all (especially position 4) so might be further news to follow in future videos. And yes your right i did not do it in this video but i notice the tone knob makes a massive difference to the tone in reality and dials some warmth back in when wanted.
@@robertmenzies6939 ya definitely don’t give up on the infinity pups yet. Trust me I have an ibanez with the WORST sounding humbuckers(seriously infinity put the quantums to shame) but one thing that really helped was backing them off further than usual to bleed off the gainy muddy bass, and then raising the pole pieces. Now they’re a little twangy and chimey but still scale with overdrive pretty well.
@@1337wafflezz Thanks Appreciate the feedback. Shame that the new Dimarzio's have cost more then the original guitar did so was hoping for an all-round better sound from them. So far not sure I have achieved that.
@@robertmenzies6939 don’t be too discouraged, I hear that particular set of dimarzios is very finnicky and hard to set up right. I think they sounded good, just lost a tiny bit of that low growl and character of a traditional humbucker. They’re technically far superior to any ibanez in brand and can probably be dialed in to be perfect.
@@1337wafflezz been in touch with DiMiarzio and got confirmation there is a need for a wiring correction. Also been playing with tone knob, amp and pedal setting and wow am I getting some sweet tones. 😎 either way thanks for the feedback.
Dam that sucks I know the feeling.. Spend all the money ..spend all the time putting it together.. then you gotta talk yourself into thinking it sounds better.... And then thought thought pops in your head .. why did I do this to a Gio.?? Check out the comparison UA-cam video of the infinity versus Seymour Duncan jb4.. they were close enough to where I wouldn't swap it.. your Infinitys didn't sound right. Sound like your tone knob is all the way to bass turn .. when you swap back to the infinities turn treble all the way then back it off to where you like it.. I didn't watch the whole video but maybe I will because I want to see if you admitted you wasted the money.
Hey Chris, long story short.....one of the pickups was faulty. Had to be sent back to DiMarzio for replacement. Also the way the shop had wired the pickups was wrong :-0 as they were trying to get round the fault. At the time of making this vid i will not lie i was so disappointed with the output. But now all of that is resolved I am over the moon with the results and soooo happy i made the swap the guitar sounds amazing. Check out some of my more recent videos to have a listen (like this one ua-cam.com/video/s-8C--C0OxY/v-deo.html)
This is actually a really interesting topic as the closeness to the string effects the volume and also impacts the tone from the pick up. I spent quite some time playing with the hight of the pick-up to get something I was pleased with.
this infinities actually sounded better than the ones I have in my 2012 GSA60

Thanks for the suggestion
Infinity best
The infinities just sounded less bright. Turn the treble up when using them and there'd be little difference.
@@brucejoseph8367 clean there was not a lot in it but distorted really has a deeper tone, really happy with it.

They say that in the middle positions, the polarity must be inverted, otherwise the sound will be quiet.

I have put LundgrensM6 humbuckers and Lundgrens Strat-90 as middle. It is a perfect choise. It sounsd soo good :)
