      But they have been proven to be toxic and leech chemicals into food. Tupperware changed their products in 2010 because they were so bad.

    I agree the Oxo containers are not air tight. I thought maybe I had defective ones. I wish a glass company would make air tight modular storage containers for flour, sugar etc. I’ve only seen round ones and they take up too much space in the cabinet/pantry. Thanks for the video!

      I bought glass jars at the container store 25 years ago. I just looked them up and was surprised they still sell them. They're heavy and kind of pricey but the quality is good and they are air tight.

    I started buying Tupperware Modular Mates when they originally came on the market, which was 30+ years ago, and I have many of the originals. Tupperware has an awesome warranty, and has replaced a couple of cracked lids for me over the years. I even took my modular mates with me when we moved to a different country - they work great as protection for fragile items in a suitcase!

    I have been using Tupperware Modular Mates for 28 years. All my baking things as well as pasta, rice, crackers, oatmeal and such is in Tupperware. Stacks and fits well, keeps things fresh and also if you happen to get a product that had food weevils, they won’t infest your entire pantry! That happened to me and what made me purchase Modular Mates and decant everything.

    I have the older OXOs with the better lids. I think the lid change made a huge difference, reflecting some of the concerns you mentioned. The containers work well for me, and these are not long term storage. I cycle through the contents. Nothing has a chance to become unusable!

    I like the Rubbermaid Brilliance containers. They are clear like OXO but airtight. For specific baking canisters the Progressive set is the one I use. The only issue with this one is that the sugar only holds 4 pounds so I use a Rubbermaid Brilliance container for that.

    I have Tupperware modular mates from the 80’s. They aren’t completely opaque. They have a clear panel in the front and the back, so I can see what’s in them. Since they’re older, I do have a concern about BPA. I only keep wrapped food items like tea bags, or non food items like batteries in them. I like the Rubbermaid Brilliance containers too. They are also modular and airtight also, but I can’t always find the right size or shape.

  • @jennivanhart3016

    I moved away from Tupperware Modular Mates because in the FLA climate, over time they start to smell (am guessing the softer plastic deteriorates), no matter how many times they're washed. That made me really sad. OXO does not smell at all. We go through our baking supplies quickly enough that things going stale isn't a risk :) I love the feel of the OXO containers, they are so soft (hard to describe). And I buy flour in bulk so I have a large rubbermaid container that stores the extra. I also use a lot of mason jars of quart, pint and half gallon sizes for things and plastic lids. Love the look and the feel of the jars in my pantry.

    • @lisapagliarulo5962

      I have the same problem with the smell. I equate it to smelling like crayons. I've tried lemon, bleach, everything, but to no avail! And I love my Tupperware! Have had some for like 40 years!

    Thank you for the advice about the containers. I do have Tupperware storage containers. And did make the purchase of a set of the OXO brand and a few of my 'dislikes' is cleaning them, not all parts can be put in my dishwasher. Another 'dislike' is they are so bulky that I can hardly get a grip around the container to pick it up. Tupperware products have that problem too, but for the duration of storing things, Tupperware wins.

    Over the past year I’ve found that the Snap-tight containers are ideal.. But I’ve also used off of Amazon a brand called (Praki & Skroam) I’ve also used lock-tight.. And yes the OXO containers are not perfect but, if something doesn’t stored for over a year it works.. I hope this helps.

    I actually currently sell Tupperware! (And started BECAUSE of the Modular Mates) I love how they have rectangular containers so they fill the entire space so things don't get stacked in front of them. Also the lifetime warranty is a biggie! Every once in awhile something cracks 🤷‍♀️But it's always guaranteed. I very much appreciate the review! I've wondered how well those containers worked! I love Oxo kitchen gadgets but never tried the containers because they only had squares.

    Like you I love the Tupperware for it's practicality... Only thing I will use for my Flour and Sugar! What I don't like is the price. Price wise and very similar to Tupperware for practicality, but more affordable is the Rubbermaid storage containers. Might not be pretty, but anything can look pretty if it matches in my eyes.

    • @cindybearj
      @cindybearj 5 місяців тому +1

      It's the price for me too. Tupperware is my favorite storage container and I love the Modular Mates. I had a lot of different kinds and colors in the 80s. My friends were always having parties. I still use my cake boxes. When I tried other plastic storage containers, they smelled, and it never went away. That made my food smell. Does anyone else have that problem or have they changed them? Tupperware never smelled. ❤

    I have been using my Tupperware Modular Mates for over 40 years. I love the way they are numbered so you can easily have your row of containers the same height - 5 is the tallest container and a 2 stacked on a 3 equals the height of a 5. Makes ordering foolproof.

I need something that can stand up to being used, and not "just a pretty face" so to speak. I love the durability of Tupperware, but I really want to be able to see into the containers when they are closed. :/ Thanks for your tips! - Signed, Still Searching ;)

    I not only have Tupperware but I used to sell it in the 80s - 00s. Those Modular Mates were always my best sellers. You can order the seals separately so some of the older colors are available. They keep them in case they break since they have a lifetime warranty on nearly all their products. I love the dark blue and that's how get more lids. Plus you can find so many of the MM containers in yard sales.

    Better Homes and Gardens has some containers at Walmart that is similar to OXO and worth looking at for frequently used countertop items. Sam's has some Tritan Member's Mark containers that seem similar to the Home Edit you showed but larger. The Home Edit and the Tritan both seem to be difficult to open and close. The Member's Mark has wasted modular, but some stacking. I think it was a good trade off on price/quality/availability. There was a quality control issues or something, though. Purchased 4 sets over time and consolidated what didn't work to return 1 of them and keep 3. Agree on not having open packaging--> bugs!!

    • @newcreationcoachingllc6491
      @newcreationcoachingllc6491 4 місяці тому

      The Member's Mark is online only and is $40 for 6 fairly large containers and 4 small ones-- dishwasher (not on super high temp) and freezer safe (read reviews). Supposedly excellent return policy. Every form of plastic has some health concerns associated. It's the time we live in, so keep that in mind and research. I wanted something that could be used in pantry or freezer and that I could see through. Don't know about complete air tight. They held water pretty good. Silicone? gasket.

    Thanks for this review. It was helpful information. Found a few at a thrift sale & picked them up there since they're out of my budget too. I'd found the sizes not ideal for storage, but I haven't used them yet to put loose ingredients in. Glad to know about the seal not being air-tight. I'll still use them, but will use them differently than I might have otherwise.
