This footage was sent to me by someone else, therefore I am not aware of any illegal activity
There are lots of new buildings there since I left the station in 1971. Great to see all this again however. Many happy memories of walking and driving round the camp. The place is full of ghosts from the past. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it
Lots since I left in '91 too.
I was there in 1960. It was barren by comparison then. Only thing I recognised was the guard room. Moved to Jever when they shut to upgrade the runway. 7 MFPS. Only souvenir I have is a watch I bought at the NAAFI shop! Not a very friendly area for Brits, even in the pub just down the road. We kept their till full though.
Great post for all us who served there, 6 years i will never forget. 👍
Thank you!
This breaks my hart the best part of my life was on PRB. Pulling out of Germany instead of the Falklands is a massive mistake and one the likes of David Cameron did for his hegfund investor mates that was nothing to do with the security of Europe but all about money for themselves. Its left us all open to the dangers we were over there in the first place as we have seen this year.
Most left around 2014 because the “threat of nuclear war was gone” look at the world now…
I was stationed in BAOR from 1971 - 76, in Herford and Osnabrück, My tour in Germany started and ended at RAF Gütersloh. Also many times on leave and one tour of duty in Northern Ireland in 1973 all went out and in through RAF Gütersloh. I've flown more than 100 times but I've used this airport more than any other in my life .... nice memories.
I was there between 87 -90 . Great memories that won't ever be forgotten.
I have a feeling that there will be strategic regrets over the BAOR mass draw downs.
For sure
I remember the parked up lightnings on the apron back in 1979, the thriving on-base community and feel gutted to see it like this now
My Dad was there '45/46, 107 Squadron. I've got some base magazines from that time.
I was there from 1978 to1981. I worked in Mechanical Transport Servicing Section. Sad to see the empty MTSS yard. it was a hive of activity when I was there.
Over 20yrs since I last seen that place still can recognise a lot thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it!
Sad to see it in that rather sorry state. I'm very surprised that the site hasn't been re-purposed yet. I do hope the Officers' Mess at least has been preserved, as it contains some cartoons painted by Luftwaffe pilots on the walls of the Keller Bar, as well as the famous Göering's Room with its hinged split beam.
Was in there early 2000's and then Fallingbostel, massive impact on the local economy. I still have my last NAAFI ration card
The nearby NAAFI in Paderborn was still open in 2021
2nd clip around 5:22 min in is Normandy Barracks in Sennelager. The main building at 7:46 is Cheshire Kitchen where I work for many years
Do you know if it is still active?
My dad was stationed in Gütersloh I’m a half German half Scottish makes me sad to see the only place that reminds me of him before he left my family as a baby boy
I get that..
I was based on PRB Gütersloh for 9 years. Even got married on that camp. So sad to see it like this.
It sure is a sad sight to see. Hopefully it will be reused since it is still in such good state
Thanks for this video. I was there early 00s with 2 Close Support Regt. My first posting. Sad to see it in such a state now.
No worries :)
I lived in Paderborn in 1955 and was born in Bad Lippspringe.. it is such a beautiful place. We also lived in Dusseldorf and Minden, and a couple of other places before we came back to England to stay. Its a shame the units were pulled out of there
It sure is a shame…
Was based here back in 1998, great memories & so glad I got to see it again albeit by this video
Memories of my mother and father, now sadly left us. Dad served here (W.Officer. electrical) early 1970's. Very happy, prosperous times, the Germans so lovely and hospitable.
Such a sad sight to see it like a ghost town. 4 brilliant years there 10 sqn RE Harrier support.
PRB. The mirror image of Dalton Barracks. Harsewinkel was fantastic for dog walking and running.
I bet!
I lived at Churchill Bks Lippstadt and Rippon Bks Bielefeld and flew at RAF Gutersloh with the Gliding Club it is sad to see it left like this
It sure is :(
@@EZURBEX I spent many a weekend there flying my 50km to Rinteln Airfield and attempted my 300km there flying up to Achmer but ended up back at Gutersloh. Wish we could have them times back
Please do come back. A lot of people dont care. But we all should have known that to to trust putin would be a mistake. AND YOU SHOULD TRUST YOUR FRIENDS. Gods speed to us all.
They are some plans on re using the base I heard
Great times! Germany was by far my best time in HMF.
As for many others from what I have heard! :)
VAS Gutersoloh 1979 . Many memories
Good to hear!
I had a fantastic 4 years there 97 to 01 first posting at 17 years old every weekend was a party!.. great times with good people
Good to hear! :)
Gammelt nun alles schön vor sich hin. Eigentlich eine Schande! So viel zum Thema mangelnder Wohnraum in Gütersloh. Auf dem Gelände könnte man so viel schönes bauen 😕
My friend and bandmate was stationed there from 1970 when it was a lightning fighter station on permanent alert. I believe it was only 60k from east Germany
😍😍😍😍😍
💪🏻💪🏻
Kurze Frage sind die Aufnahmen mit der BIMA abgestimmt? Ich frag auch gern für euch nach!
No they are not :)
'78-80. 4 Squadron. Lived in block three behind the ATC tower.
Must have been a great time!
And now we would maybe need that place for the Luftwaffe
Heard that it might be put in use again
How did you get permission to get in. I'd love to go back and do some filming
Barely recogniseable now. Was there 1983.
Looks like it be recommissioned quickly
Its still in such a good state
Very sad to it it this way…thanks for the vid
May be the U.S.Airforce will take the Airport back in 2024
Not sure if they will move towards Gutersloh, they never have before. They are more situated around bitburg area
They will not!
What a massive mistake losing such an important facility for UK Forces as a strategic base in Europe. The same goes for Paderborn where the ex-BATUS vehicle fleet sits. Its all asking the UK to make some bold defence decisions and get back into Europe sending a strong message to Moscow!
No money left for that. The UK is now a third world country. Loved my 3 years at Gutersloh on Harriers and my 3 ears at Bruggen on Jaguars. Also loved my whole childhood in Germany with an army father and a German mother from Bielefeld.
Dampen your gimbal panning.
Yeah I know, sadly this was all the footage that I had
So sad to see it like this
I know..
terrible jerky robotic drone.... spoiled it
Didn’t get good footage but wanted to upload it anyway so that the people that used to serve here get to see atleast something
@@EZURBEX Thank you, I thought it was fantastic.
