Was attached to a Nato unit .
Barely recogniseable now. Was there 1983.
Very sad to it it this way…thanks for the vid
Worked here 1980-1983 as an apprentice on my way to become an electrician. Our company used to work there as a private contractor for the Property Services Agency (PSA). The idea of joining the military grew strong while I was working here so I finally joined the GEAF in 1984 and stayed there until my retirement. In other words, working on an RAF airfield was my first contact with the military life and paved my way into this business. A big thank you to everyone who gave me an Air Force internal insight back then.
Actually quite sad to see it like this. Some great memories of Bruggen though. Moved to a house on camp after serving a year and a half at Laarbruch. Stationed at Aircraft paint shop.
Sad to see it in that rather sorry state. I'm very surprised that the site hasn't been re-purposed yet. I do hope the Officers' Mess at least has been preserved, as it contains some cartoons painted by Luftwaffe pilots on the walls of the Keller Bar, as well as the famous Göering's Room with its hinged split beam.
My son was born there in 1971. Sad to see it in ruins now.
Very sad. Do we still have an Air Force?
My dad was there 77-79 and 86-89, so I was there when young, at Barnes Wallis and then the 2nd time got bussed to Kent (which around my 5th year merged with the Queens? school in Rheindahlen and became Windsor School). 2nd time was better because I was older, the cinema was converted into a bowling alley ( my dad, my brothers and I all bowled), I discovered Mezzo Mix, and our quarter was even closer to the gate and we could easily walk across the road to the Ratty (Raststätte), where we'd often get takeaway (Bratwurst mit Senf, bitte!) or occasionally sit down for a meal (I liked the Jägerschnitzel).
Love this ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Love you from India. I see some viral videos about this island 😅
Ghost Adventures is not fake !!! there is those who believe and those who dont
staying you 7 day then look at ghost.
Such a sad sight to see it like a ghost town. 4 brilliant years there 10 sqn RE Harrier support.
How did you get permission to get in. I'd love to go back and do some filming
Very annoying video either your a Epileptic or that drone is. It was very irking to watch. Have you got an attention span of an Amoeba or is the drone AI'D for maximum piss humans off'ness Go less Jolty or wither away Joker!
I used to live 289 Newall road. I worked out of Hanger 2 and used the Sgts Mess. It makes really sad this video.
Its currently being destroyed
3rd generation JHQ Brat. 😢
Why don’t no one go alone? Like that you would definitely see and hear ghosts
I was born there...
My Dad was there '45/46, 107 Squadron. I've got some base magazines from that time.
🥺🥺🥺
Was based here back in 1998, great memories & so glad I got to see it again albeit by this video
Hi frey i used to go to Kent school back in 75 and lived on the base here at RAF Bruggen , right next to the school near the camp gates , this is so weird seeing this .
My son was born there in 91
So sad to see. What a waste. I lived there in the late 60’s early 70’s. My first son was born at Wegburg Hospital. They were great times pubs, clubs, parties and work of course.
I know Laarbruch from 1980 to 82. seen some videos of it now especially the married quarters looks the same as those down the road at Bruggen.
Only 20 plague victims are buried on the island and it was used as a navy hospital, not a sanitarium. There are so few people buried on the island that part of the cemetery was converted into a vegetable garden. Descendants of the people who lived there want to turn it into a nature preserve and park.
I was a member of the Phoenix Gliding Club in the Canberra years of the 1960’s. As a member of 28 Signal Regiment, I spent most weekends living in the transit block, stealing an RAF breakfast, then all day either flying, or helping others to fly. I had many RAF friends during that time. We ate dinner most of the time across the border in Roermond. I was sorry to leave and regret the apparently derelict site that the airfield has been allowed to become.
Was a member of Phoenix Gliding Club 73-76. Great times .
Ich erinnere mich noch gut an die Zeit als hier , genau wie in W'ildenrath , reger Flugbetrieb herrschte.
Those were the days my friend , I thought they’d never end. RAF Bruggen gave me the happiest days of my life , initially lived at the Donderburg while we were waiting for a WO house on the base . I was only sixteen at the time , hated having to go to Kent School but finished there after 3 months and did a home correspondence course to get my O&A Levels to begin Nursing back in the UK .How I loved waking up to the sight and sound of the Pine Trees ! I would take a walk up to the Malcolm Club every morning to get my father’s papers , quick stop off at the NAAFI , then wait for my Mum to get home .She was a Bus Escort watching over the children on their way to Kent School. Come the weekend it was shopping in Roermond where we would always eat chips with curry sauce ! Loved them . spent many a time swimming in the river Maas and for a treat we would eat out at the Bruggen Muller. Then after three years my father was detached to RAF Wildenrath, it was never as good as Bruggen , when I would come to visit , my heart was always longing to be back where I most loved of all our postings . Even Akrotiri in Cyprus couldn’t compete ! Now I’m am an old woman of 64 , waiting to visit Dignitas , but when I go , I shall take those memories with me and be glad that I got to have the best time of my life there on the Dutch/German Border
I wish you well on your journey’D’ and there after too. 🤗
Kurze Frage sind die Aufnahmen mit der BIMA abgestimmt? Ich frag auch gern für euch nach!
No they are not :)
I was stationed in BAOR from 1971 - 76, in Herford and Osnabrück, My tour in Germany started and ended at RAF Gütersloh. Also many times on leave and one tour of duty in Northern Ireland in 1973 all went out and in through RAF Gütersloh. I've flown more than 100 times but I've used this airport more than any other in my life .... nice memories.
My friend and bandmate was stationed there from 1970 when it was a lightning fighter station on permanent alert. I believe it was only 60k from east Germany
Did my time there in the RAF from 1987 to 89. MT section both at JHQ and Wegberg .Good times.
What a massive mistake losing such an important facility for UK Forces as a strategic base in Europe. The same goes for Paderborn where the ex-BATUS vehicle fleet sits. Its all asking the UK to make some bold defence decisions and get back into Europe sending a strong message to Moscow!
No money left for that. The UK is now a third world country. Loved my 3 years at Gutersloh on Harriers and my 3 ears at Bruggen on Jaguars. Also loved my whole childhood in Germany with an army father and a German mother from Bielefeld.
I did not realise just how big Bruggen is/was, only went there once back in the 80's, makes RAF Gatow look tiny !! Looking at the way things are shaping up with Russia today, we were slightly shortsighted to close all our bases in Germany. It made me sad to leave Berlin when it shut, i loved my time in Germany, loved the people, the culture, i do have some great memories however. Thankyou for sharing this video......Vielen danke Tschuess.
I was there between 87 -90 . Great memories that won't ever be forgotten.
I remember the parked up lightnings on the apron back in 1979, the thriving on-base community and feel gutted to see it like this now
Around 1966/67,I spent a wonderful week at RAF Bruggen. I was an ATC cadet on my first overseas Summer Camp. Great fun. Sad to see it like it is now.
While stationed in JHQ we use to travel there to help out, nice camp. The jet fighters and bombers use to fly over JHQ on missions. I believe the posties were there too, we had to help out during Christmas time.

Can't believe it's over 43 years since I served there 1981-1984 when all 14,17,20& 31sqn jags were there, can't say I miss early morning hooter alarm for taceval ,minimal exercises, but looked fwd to egg/ bacon banjos for exercise breakfast,,, nice to see bomb dump still standing ,, here to all us bruggen Dumpies still surviving...😢😢😢
I found this by accident. I was stationed here from 1975, almost 50 years ago. How things have changed over the decades. So sad to see it like this because I had many happy times there and it almost brings tears to my eyes. THe memories and the experiences gained feel like it was yesterday. I live now on the other side of the world in Australia perhaps it might just be possible to visit just one more time. Thank you for video
Memories of my mother and father, now sadly left us. Dad served here (W.Officer. electrical) early 1970's. Very happy, prosperous times, the Germans so lovely and hospitable.
I was there from 1978 to1981. I worked in Mechanical Transport Servicing Section. Sad to see the empty MTSS yard. it was a hive of activity when I was there.
Used to visit Javelin Barracks a lot between 2006-09 when I was part of the G4 Log Sp team from JHQ. We inspected 7 & 16 Sigs and the Station QMs. Videos like this make me nostalgic and homesick.
Its a shame that most is now gone..
