Dont be sad. It's not your fault, you tried to help her. At least you gave her the quality of life she deserved in the time she had.

I would really like to share my experience.
About a year ago, I adopted a guinea pig named Syrup, and she was really healthy and as far as I knew, happy. She was young, too. After only a month, she stopped eating, so I took her to the vet. The vet said that Syrup’s teeth were growing inward. So every time she ate, she would stab her tongue with her teeth. We had to feed her through a syringe. Three days passed, and she died in the middle of the night. We all love our pets and we all know they’ll die one day.
Thank you for telling us about your hedgehogs and listening to my story as well.

Poor thing. I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I'm wondering if the name "Syrup" was given after she started having tooth problems, and could only be fed through a syringe (in what would be a "syrup-like" form) or it was purely a coincidence.

I feel bad for you we had a dog.She was a Jack Russell her name was Stinky. She was pretty old.About in her teens or 20s.Any ways a few days before we went on vacation she was throwing up not eating or drinking that much and she was very sluggish. So I took a few pictures before we left.On our way home I fell asleep in the car.And my parents woke me up while we were in the neighborhood and sadly our dog passed away.We loved our dog she was so sweet and was so happy and entertaining. But if she saw someone she didn't know she would bark. Before she died she put her front paws on my uncle's legs took one last breath and died.We still don't know how she died but we think she either had heart worm or cancer but we don't know. But we got her ashes and she will always be remembered😭

IM really sorry to hear about Freeda. I have a hedgehog and she is the sweetest soul i have ever met in an animal in my life, we love her so much but she is dying. I am not sure how long she has left but there is apparently nothing we can do at this point. I don’t know how to deal with seeing her like this and the thought of losing her and I am really struggling with it.

I had a hedgehog, would never buy one again and I strongly discourage others!
I had a hedgehog, she was my best friend. After two years I had to put her down... Pet hedgehogs are such a unnatural and forced breed, they get sick very easily and knowledge about any treatment is very limited. Mine had neurological issues which is very common. We tried several treatments with my vet, mainly injections, many painful injections... After a few weeks of battling and crying and force-feeding and watching her starving and going crazy I had to end her suffering. Before getting her I was going to buy other one from other breeder, but two baby hedgehogs died.

they weren't from my area, I was searching in my whole country...
there are so many lonely cats, dogs, rabbits for adoption, please consider this while looking for a pet :)

    • @buggy4532
      @buggy4532 7 років тому +7

rozbiuamsuoik I understand, I found my cat on the street. They make the best pets! But with things like hedgehogs they may have been surrendered/abandoned for illness or being too much to handle? Idk, I'm in Australia and that's the main reason for surrendering rodents.
I guess my point is that even though they are prone to sickness and don't live long, every moment you have them counts. Even if they cost a lot, caused a lot of pain, they caused so much joy and they knew love for the time they were in your home.
Sorry if it seems like I'm arguing with you!

    • @rozbiuamsuoik
      @rozbiuamsuoik 7 років тому +1

me neither! I'm just sharing my point od view, it changed very much recently. It's about life of living and feeling creatures, so I think it's important to talk about it :)
(tl;dr: I strongly recommend everybody educating themselves as much as possible and visiting an animal shelter before making decisions what animal to get :) )
After loosing my hedgehog I knew I couldn't live without an animal. As a child we had a beautiful pure breed dog. After a lot of research I wanted to try adopting a dog from a shelter. I heard stories how it looks there, but it's nothing compared to reality... Visit in a dog shelter shattered me. We found a dog that suited our abilities and conditions. People did horrible things to her, she had very sad life, but she trusted us completely after a few days. Everybody that meets her says how beautiful and cheerful she is :) She really is a wonderful dog, beautiful, cute, loving, playful, very smart and soooo happy! Most, if not all, animals in shelters are perfectly fine and need just some love, time and home.
And of course, I love my hedgehog so much and my heart will never fully heal. And I still think they are very cute and amazing creatures, but now, knowing how it is with hedgehogs I would personally feel bad giving money to breeders so they can breed more of them. But everybody makes their own decisions and I don't want to judge anyone.

I have owned hedgehogs nearly all my life, and with the exception of two (one I took in because I knew she was weak and needed a loving home), all of my hedgehogs lived to be at least four. I had a hedgehog who lived to be 9 yrs old. In her old age, all her teeth fell out, her hind legs were stiff with arthritis, and she lost her vision, but she was still insisting on running in her wheel right up until her final few days! Whoever bred your three hedgehogs did a rotten job.
Also, who ever gave you a hard time about your crestie dropping it's tail knows nothing. One of my cresties dropped his tail because a cricket jumped on it. Some cresties are just high-strung and prone to panick.
Another thing, (adding to my already too long comment) if you know something's wrong and the vet won't listen, get a second opinion. My parrotlet was eggbound and the vet wouldn't even take x-rays because she looked and acted fine. I payed $30 for him to tell me I had a healthy bird, so I took her to a different vet and I was right. That vet saved my baby's life. I'm so grateful I didn't have to learn my lesson the hard way and I'm so sorry you're baby was victim to an arrogant vet who thinks he knows each individual animal better than their owner.
I guess what I'm trying to say in this long, ranty comment is, I have been there. I've encountered a lot of what you're talking about and I'm so sorry you have to go through all that.

Animal deaths are truly painful. I remember having my rabbit in a good cage inside and my dog was outside. And my dog was really nice to my bunny and all so I never worried. But when I went to WalMart and came back, my rabbits cage was outside and I asked my mom "why is it outside?" And she said that she left it there because it was making a mess. Then, I went out to check on my bunny and she wasn't in her cage. I found bits and pieces of her fur around my backyard and I followed it and found her dead body eaten out. I instantly blamed my dog because his stomach was full. It broke my heart because it was like having your son kill your daughter. I still have that dog and I have forgiven him, because it's been 4 years. I remember going to my rabbits grave every night to tell her everything that has happened to me that day and how my life has been and then tell her 'goodnight' So I feel your pain of an animals death. R.I.P Piper

Anyone who doesn’t shed tears over a lost pet shouldn’t have pets at all, I took a hedgehog in from someone who ‘got bored’ with him and even though I’ve only had him for a few months I would be in pieces without him, just hearing that these things are even possible makes me start to panic. Hedgehogs have such personality and can really show love if you earn it.

i agree. i had a hamster named zeus and when he started to suddenly get really sick i drove him to the emergency vet in the middle of a snow storm at 11pm (actually it was a dog and cat clinic but they had a vet there who had experience with hamsters and said i could bring him in) to get him care. after finding out what was wrong with him i was instructed to take him to a vet that could give hamster medication so i did. i paid over $500 in vet bills and medication and syringe fed him and made him as comfortable as possible up until the end. everyone asked me why i would go all out like that for a hamster cause "its not like its a dog or a cat". i can't understand the logic in that cause he was still living creature and the friendliest hamster ever (never bit anyone). no one should ever get a pet they aren't willing to go all out for!

Well since we are all on the topic, I suppose I can share my story too. My hedgehog's name was Kimchi, one of the sweetest little creatures I've ever come to know. She was so welcoming and precious, I just adored her. She would actually climb out of her cage whenever we approached because she was excited to come out and explore. But for some reason, she went from climbing and running around to completely lethargic and gagging. She was cold, which has happened before but we warmed her up. She was only two months old, and she died later that night. It's one of the most painful experiences you can go through, and the fact she was just a baby I mean, can it get any worse? Either way, we bought her from this breeder, she seemed trustworthy and said she was certified, but you can never know the real conditions these animals are bred. I would love to get another spikey friend in the future, its just so hard to trust people these days.

  • @marszenka
    @marszenka 7 років тому +2284

This is entirely on the breeder. If you feel like you want to try to get another hedgie in the future, look for a licensed breeder. A good breeder will have a lifetime warranty against WHS and at least a year guarantee against cancer - they're trying to make strains that are cancer-resistant, but of course 0 cancer is an impossible result for any animal. The breeder who gave you Solara sounds like a good egg since she was completely upfront about the possibilities for the specific animal she was selling you. Other things to look for are whether they have really good care information on their website, and whether or not they have a policy for unwanted animals - it seems like reputable breeders will ask the people who don't want their hedgies anymore to return them to the breeder because they are selective about the homes they go to. Some breeders even run hedgehog rescues!
My favorite in my state is called Storybook Hedgehogs. If you ever want to reach out to them, they might be able to recommend trustworthy breeders in your region so you can just love the little guys without this kind of heartbreak. I'm so sorry about Piper. This is incredibly sad - please know that you did everything you could and you were let down by both the exotic pet guy and the first vet. Not your fault.

i know this comment will be super long but i just have to get this off my chest.. i tried so hard not to cry while watching this but still ended up crying pretty much throughout the entire video.. you are such an amazing person and pretty much the best pet owner that i know of and it is so unfair that this happened to you. my heart just broke into a million pieces when you said that Piper passed away. and what is even worse is that people are actually trying to blame her sickness on you. that just makes me so sad. you are such a strong person for going through all this and please don't ever let those stupid hate comments get to you because you really take such good care of your animals it is literally impossible for them get harmed in any sort of way because of something you did. you devote your entire life to these beautiful animals and i respect you so much for that. not only do you take amazing care of your animals you even try to make sure other people do the same by making these videos. if that doesn't make you the best pet owner than i don't know what does. so please keep doing what you are doing because you are making such a difference for pets all over the world and i love you so much for that!

With exotic pets sometimes these types of things just happen. At least you gave them the best you could. when I used to sell Hedgehogs at my shop I saw a lot of people who didn't care for them properly just because they didn't want to spend the money. Honestly, I even treat my breeder roaches as pets so it doesn't matter the species, they should all be treated great no matter what. It's not like they have a choice being in our care. With that said, some exotic pets are just known to come with a lot of issues. The hedgehogs really should be setup in a large enclosure similar to what they'd have in the wild but a lot of pet stores sell them like hamsters. That's a whole other topic though! Sorry you had to deal with this and I hope that your heart can heal soon from it. I would suggest finding reputable breeders from here on out. A lot of times you will see genetic issues from inbreeding with people who don't fully know about genetics while breeding...

    LONG SUPPORTIVE POST WARNING!
I just want to say that anyone who takes the time to really watch your videos can't NOT see how taking care of your animals is your passion and full-time job. The difference between you and other pet care UA-camrs is how you care for them. You have more than comfortable enclosures for them, the best food and equipment. You give them more than love, but the best home they could ask for. Your knowledge on each of your animals and what they need is more than most owners have. (It has inspired me to learn all I can about my animals!) Nala and Piper would have ended up dying just like they did recently in another home. They would have had the same symptoms...but they would have been with another hog parent who may not have been as educated as you about animals or who may not have had the resources to pay for the medicine. (So many people think that if they can afford the animal and it's enclosure then that's enough) They may have been with someone who may not have taken the time to hand feed them and give them medicine multiple times a day. I'm new to the animal care side of youtube, but Taylor, you are so educated on your animals and make sure you are able to provide for them if the worst happens. You make sure you are able to give them the best care they can have. Nala and Piper are the luckiest hedgehogs to have had your care at the end of their life because, I imagine that if they were in another home, they would have been having the exact same symptoms but would have suffered alone until they passed. You gave them they happiest life they could have asked for, and I'm not just saying that. Why do you think you have so many subscribers in such a short amount of time? Because we all see how not only do you give the so much love, but you take the time to understand what the animal needs, what they will need in the future, what the animal likes and doesn't, and the best brands and best products. You are a phenomenal animal keeper and because of that, watching you take care of all of your happy animals gives us viewers such a warm and fuzzy feeling of peace. It makes me so happy to know that they are being cared for in a way that so many animals aren't. I'm sending so much love your way and I thank you for giving your animals an amazing life. Just like that quote says, they may be a part of your life, but you are their entire life...and their entire life was filled with so much love and quality care.

A few years ago this kitten just ran into my house without even asking. He was very friendly and sweet, so I let him stay. I fed him and watered him then took him to the vet.
He has some parasites but other than that he checked out as perfectly healthy.
My neighbor said someone had abandoned a bunch of cats in a little stand of woods near my house the week before.
He was one of the sweetest, friendliest cats I'd ever seen. Then several months later (just long enough to let myself get really attached, on a Friday he had an bathroom accident. He'd been really good with litter training to this point (he was STRICTLY an inside cat, and never seemed to want to go outside again anyway) so it was kind of weird, but I cleaned it up, but by Saturday night he started seeming to be a bit sick. By Sunday I decided I'd take him to the vet the next day, but he passed away Sunday night.
According to the vet he had some kind of feline disease that is always fatal and begins with loss of bathroom control. It really was quite devastating because I liked him so much.
Sometimes animals just die, and there is nothing you can do about it.

Totally agree abt looks but u gotta understand taking in an animals w special needs is way more of a responsibility (financially & I’m terms of effort/time to care for them) than healthy animals so it’s not fair to berate ppl for understanding their limitations, better than having all the best intentions in the world but taking in an animal u don’t have the resources to care for & it ends up suffering & dying or in the best case having to be rehomed

    hey taylor (long comment coming)
so i'll be honest, i found your videos in the first place about a year ago because i wanted two pets: an axolotl and a hedgehog, and i was so excited to see that you owned both of them and had great videos about their care. i finally got a copper axolotl in december and i'm so so happy with him, but i'd still been really pining for a hedgehog (especially after seeing your cuties in all your videos!). even after all the horrible stuff happened with solara i assumed it was a fluke and still intended on getting one, but this video has really made me see sense. i wasn't aware of it but from what you've described it sounds that these african pygmy hedgehogs are a product of clumsy interbreeding to make a domesticated animal that is just unstable and poorly understood. 3/4 of your hedgehogs getting sick like that cannot be a coincidence. its like dogs - everyone assumes its fine to own crazy inbred breeds like french bulldogs and pugs, but ignore the abundance of health issues that have come from lazy breeding to make a quick buck. btw i'm of course not blaming you at all, i would have probably made the same mistake before i watched this video.
even though i've had my heart set on one for so long i just cannot handle how utterly heartbroken you are and the money you've spent to try and make them better, so i'm going to put down this idea entirely. its not fair on you or on the animal themselves, if people are just going to breed without thinking about the consequences.
as a final note i'm really sorry this happened it sounds so awful, i know i would not have kept myself together as well as you did in this video. i hope you feel better soon and the pain goes away, and at least you have your other pets (and your lovely new puppy) for comfort. mad love x

I"m so sorry that this happened to you, Taylor. One of the most traumatizing experiences I've ever had was ALMOST having to euthanize my ferret. I had just had a c section and was recovering at home with my newborn, when my ferret Rumi became seriously ill. I took him to the vet and was told the surgeries were going to be over 3,000 which I couldn't afford at the time. When I saw him with the catheter in and was told to say goodbye to him, I snapped and told them to just give him the surgery, I couldnt bare to say goodbye to my barely one year old little boy :( At the end of the day, we came up w a quarter of the money owed and the vet told me that he would cover the rest. He just wanted to save my ferrets life, which is unheard of with vets. I'm grateful that I didn't have to know that I was the one to make the decision of his mortality just because I couldn't afford it. Rumi is happy and thriving today, I'm glad I had the opportunity to save his life

      meow16 when I was about 6
My mum texted my big sister saying that we had a surprise present
When my mum got home, she had a baby bunny, and we named the bunny ruby, my mum said she found ruby in the of the road, so she picked ruby up, me and my sister got so exited, we got a cage and padded it with clothing, ruby the bunny only lasted 10 mins with us, she started hitting her small head on the side of the cage, bc she was a shock, and after she hit her head, she didn't move, so we took her outa the cage, and she didn't do anything, so we built her a little grave, but we didn't want to put her under ground, so instead we put her in her cage beside the grave, the next day, she was gone, no blood left at all, we thought it was the cats, but they didn't have any sign of blood on them, when we ask about if they killed a mouse, they leave, we asked about ruby to the cats, they didn't leave, I hope ruby is still alive and well, but if she isn't, then, we will never forget her

meow16 we had a puppy for 2 months she was just a baby. Happy, wild, sweet. She got parvovirus and my parents tried to nurse her back to health though the situation of my brother's birthday going on. She just got worse really early in the morning my parents woke up and saw that there was blood in her stool and rushed her to the vet hospital. I heard them wake me up and I never wake up late at night by little noises so I knew something was up. She stayed in the hospital for 2 days then I visited her. She looked bad but I still had hope for her... the next day was Monday I think and we went to school really depressed and deep down I knew she was gone. My grandma and my mom were there to pick us up from high school. They told us that Sophie looked so terrible and the vet said the best thing to do was to put her down but they still offered more days to treat her but that was already thousands of money spent already.. so they put her down. They said she wasn't alone that grandma and mom were there but I felt betrayed. I wanted to be there I wanted her ashes I wanted to hold her one last time. And it hurts so much to this very day knowing that the last time I saw her I only got to touch her little paw... I just wanted to hold her one last time. It sucks too because months before we got her our dog of 4 years died from i don't know what she bleed everywhere and her guts came out her butt and no one was there when she died. I miss Perty I miss Sophie. Most of all I miss Luma she's another dog who died at 4 years old. It's sad that you come home saying "I'm going give Luma a bath" "we're going to take her walking" then just see she's gone. All the dogs got out because of this Labrador we had he just loved to open the gate for everyone leave. The lab and the other dog that got out was fine and that gave us hope that Luma was still alive. I stayed home to watch to see if she would get home. It felt like hours I would pace back and forth to the front door to the back yard door. My brother... in his lowest time I just... he burstef into the house and screamed "LUMA'S DEAD" I screamed, I blamed God I cussed out loud for the very first time. It changed me so much. I hated the Labrador for doing this. Luma got hit by a car. My dad got one of my old blankets and buried her in our yard.. I never saw her again. And guess what. She died after my parents anniversary then the next day was my cousin's birthday.. how could 2 happy events have such a horrible event happen in between. I mean I didn't see her after the dinner my mom and dad had. And in the morning I don't even remember seeing her either. But she was there after my surgery. She was there when I needed love and I wasn't there they they found her that hurts a lot. I can't stop thinking about them. And I'm crying so much right now because I loved them so much. We have a new dog after so long. She is okay. She was on death row when we adopted her. Nobody wanted her I guess, but I can't love her like I loved the others but I'm trying to care for her as long as she's here. (Her name is Starry it's kinda sad because I almost call her Sophie every time because she acts like a fusion of Perty and Sophie it's really weird but she likes to cuddle like Luma... Starry confuses me but I still like her)

I was 7 and really wanted a dog desperately because I saw my friends had a beautiful cocker spaniel. I begged my mom every day and finally one day she decided to take me to get a dog from some person she knew that had young golden retrievers mixed with labrador. We went to pick it up and I can remember how excited I was that day I remember crying when I got to pet the dog and get in the car with it. I than named it Candy, and she was the sweetest dog ever. She never barked at anyone or even bit. I remember we had rat problems and that my grandma had rat poison, I didn't think anything of it at the time and didn't know the potential danger. I was at school and I than just remember getting out of school and seeing my mom standing there waiting for me with a worried expression and she than took me to the car and told me what happened.. My grandma had put the rat poison on some small pieces of bread for the rats, but instead my dog Candy got to it first and ate it.. We rushed to the vet where Candy was and I just remember seeing vets around her and her throwing up everywhere. Than they let me see her for the last time and took her into another room. And I just have the memory burned into my brain when the Vet came out and told me she was gone.. I love dogs but I will never get one again, it feels like loosing a family member. And I'm just crying like crazy right now.

When my girl peanut died it wasn't the death that hurt, it was the force feeding & trying to help her but not succeeding. It tore my heart up because as her "mother" I wanted to make everything better.

I know... force feeding is awful. I had to force feed birds, and sometimes it killed them...but they would be dead otherwhise too (with birds, if they swallow from the wrong side it goes in their lungs and they die from an aweful death...) I also had to amputate one to save his life, it's the worst thing ever. (The bird was living with his colony in a huge cage outside, and this one got a hair entangeled around his foot, saw it when it was too late, the foot was starting to rot...) The bird lived without his foot, but man... Doing this without anesthetics (you don't have another choice with birds so small) was aweful.

Kelly Oreos I feel your pain. A few years ago, my moms shitzu, Jack, was dying of cancer, and a few days before it happened she took off with her sister because she couldn't deal with it. My dad hated Jack, and just put him outside in the cold to die alone because he was crying so loudly and my dad didn't want to pay to euthanize him. I brought him into my room, and had to force feed and water him for two days. Eventually I crushed up some pain pills and force fed him that to take his pain away. I was like 15, it was the hardest thing Ive ever had to do.

I had a sad death experience with my snake hat died recently. Please for any one who is thinking about getting a pet from petsmart or PETCO don't do it, because I did research after my pet died, and pets there are usually sick and aren't taken care of well. So I got her on my birthday and loved her so much the day I got her but the problem was that she hadn't eaten at all. We tried to feed her for 3 months and she never ate. We found out the store had sold us a sick snake and snake died a few days ago.I have been crying for a while now and I really loved her😭💕

my family has had to put down 4 dogs out of 7 dogs. 1 truly was a jerk the other 3 where nice not really angry or anything. 1 bit my older sister after she shoved him under a blanket and hugged him. 2/3 was named Rocco and I absolutely loved him but he was a very pack kinda dog who in his sweet black fur covered head went Dad=pack leader me=2nd in line and the son(me)= 3rd in line. and so Rocco put his jaws around my neck. it wasn't him trying to kill me or hurt me in any way just him showing dominance over me. My parents didn't take it too well and had him put down. Which I didn't know about since I absolutely loved him even after him biting me. So they told me that they put him on a farm with one of my dads coworkers and that already he was doing great and was happy with this old dude and his wife. My dad let slip on the weekend of July 4th wall him and I were up camping at Griswalt. The last dog was Sadie she was more my moms then anyone else's. I didn't care too much about her but she was still you know a family pet that we all care about. None of our animals really died of old age or disease. the 2nd dog as a family that we had was given away because we had to move. Jasper a black lab which we still have and Oakley whom I also love is with another person because after my parents divorce 3 years ago my mom didn't want the dogs so my dad got them. and at the time it was Jasper the young silly lab and Oakley who loved fetch and would throw the toy at you if you didn't play. (it was very cute!) he was a yellow lab very much like a barrel of puppy love and muscle. But when my dad sold the large house that we had and moved into a smaller one the two dogs didn't really have a lot of space so they where kept mainly outside since my dad worked from really early too really late so the time came when we (dad and i) realized that Oakley and his shedding really triggered our asthmatic allergies so we actually gave too a good friend of y dad's and I've gone to see him a couple times since then. Jasper is still here and just Like Oakley He throws the toy at you but when he does it he looses his balance and falls ! :P

I feel your pain about losing a pet you loved so much. My rabbit was two years old and he was a male and his name was Gregory I got him at a junior. And so he breaded with my sisters rabbits. And he devolved 2 ear infections. We had him taking pills and I had to hand feed him. I kept thinking the whole time this is it. He’s gone... Shortly after his kids (There were 4) were born and we showed them to him. One of them looks exactly like him 😭. A couple months after they were born he died... He died so peacefully and now he watching over his kids from above. One of his kids live inside of his old cage to this day....

I have a sad story too. When our cats had kittens (we could barely afford to keep them, so we couldnt spay Sophie and Belle) we would keep the runts. Sophie's first litter was about the same time as Belle's and Shadow would often play with his cousins and we didn't think much of it. Tigger and Two-face are the ones we kept. Two-face was the runt and my dad just couldn't see tigger go. Two grew up into a beautiful cat, bright silky fur, she was just so pretty. But, she was sick. We couldn't afford to take her to the vet, so we gave her the best even tho I know she was hurting. She was still a baby, less then 4 years old when she died. We were all so sad. We buried her next to her grandma and grandpa (unrelated). All of the cats would sit near them and cry. Two-face, Cassidy, and Spastic were beloved and I miss them so much. Rest in peace, Two-face. Rest in peace Cassidy and rest in peace Spastic.

I've had two hedgehogs who died without a reson. Our firs, Fiona, died in my arms on the way to the hospital. We think she was stuffed up because she had a bump on her stomach and the last hour she looked like she was in pain, so it was for the best.
Our second hedgehog, Lillemor, we have no idea what happened. She just one day stopped eating and we gave her wet for and try to force her to eat but nothing really happened. The vets didn't do much either. And then about 3-4 days after the vet meeting I found her laying lifeless besides her food.
Now I have a new little prince and he seems so healthy, but I am so scared that I'm gonna find him dead at any time. He is only about 1,5 years old right now so I hope he will live 5 years at least.

(if I remember correctly you only start seeing symptoms of kidney failure at a quite high percentage. I think it was close to 60% of a kidney needs to stop working to show outwards symptoms, so that's why it might have felt super quick)

I've had a few geckos, they were Mediterranean House geckos, their names were Baby and Harley, the first one, Baby, had passed away because of an unknown cause, to this day, I thought it was because I never took care of her good enough, but it was most likely, because she was roaming alone by herself and she was too young to live on her own, she had a birth deformity that caused her to not to live as long as she should have, so that means we gave her a longer life than she would have in the wild.
Harley had also passed away, he was much older than Baby was, he was more of an adult or an elder, he most likely had passed because of old age, we fed him daily and gave him surplus amounts of water, he had a pool of water that I cleaned daily to prevent contamination, he was warmed during the winter so he wouldn't die from hypothermia.
Both Baby and Harley's deaths made me very depressed but Baby's got me the hardest because I watched her die in my hands as I cried and said goodbye to her, it hurt me so bad that I didn't draw at all for a few days, we buried her in our backyard and I left a seashell near where we had laid her to rest.
I don't want my pet, Pugsley, to die either, she's a rescue pug who was over bred, 9 times in 7 years, and mostly starved, we've had her for almost 4 years, since December 23, 2014, she'll be 11 by then, luckily, what we thought was Cancer, was only a cyst and I glad she's happy now.
All in all, if you want a pet, rescues may be not the healthiest looking choice, but they'll thank you for every second you decided they were they one, their always loyal and appreciate every moment they have with you.

My first hedgehog who was named Bonita sadly passed at 5 it was a horrible death, when she was younger she was very healthy and active, she was the kindest hedgehog I've ever known, but when she hit her 5th birthday things went downhill. I decided to give her a bath and in doing so found a lump on her throat which turned out to be a tumor, she was quite strong and we tried treatments but nothing worked I knew she would pass soon but she stayed alive for weeks on end which was super surprising since the tumor spread to her legs and stomach, making it so she couldn't walk. on her last days her left ear starting bleeding profusely. She died unhealthy which broke my heart. It wasn't because she had no room to move because we made a very large cage for her with perfect heat and everything. I'm so sorry about your hedgehogs. I know how heart breaking it can be to lose a pet.

Hammy Ham at least you know that he died happy and loved. honestly, once an animal becomes terminal the only thing you can do is keep it warm and happy in it's final hours. sorry for your loss, though, i know how hard it is to lose a pet. it's almost like losing a child.

Hammy Ham hey, if you are over 16 and have good credit, get a credit card. My snake had gotten mouth rod and i just lost my job. So, i went and got a credit card. Once i work again, i pay it off and cancel it. Now i put $50 a week away in a saving account just in case any of my animals ever get sick and i don't have the money. I am also sorry and pray he make it.

Bless you! I had a fish and his name was Neptune. I had him for five years and I had a female fish named Leopard and they were best friends. Two years later I got two more fish named Quartz and Tiger. They all lived together for two years until leopard got to old and passed away. Quartz , Tiger and Neptune lived together but one day Neptunes dorsal fin started to go pink ( btw Neptune is all white) and then red. I started giving medicine and the red went away but took half of his fin with it. The wound around it healed but his bones were still visible. Later on he went down to the cave where leopard died. Of course I was concerned and took close eye. It was a couple of days before he died that Tiger and Quartz started chasing him and I immidetly took action. I scooped Neptune out and put him in a large bowl filled with clean tank water where he could feel safe. I put a cloth over the bowl because I had a cat. I would try to feed Neptune but he just wouldn't eat. I would sit with him and on his last day of life I told him that I was sorry. He passed away in the same cave that Leopard passed in. I now have two fake fish plants resembling their presence in the tank with Tiger and Quartz.
    Rip my beautiful Leopard
    Rip my friendly Neptune
    I miss you.

( Please no hate, I love my animals and still have my two young fish today, Tiger and Quartz. I also have a young snake named Shardz and a beautiful tortoiseshell pollydactyl cat named Pink. Did I mention I also have a 6 month old tortoise named Tiddles?)

I had a Betta fish named micheal and I never realized how much I liked that fish until after I had him for 5 months. My mom realized that I never really paid attention to it, so she gave it to a classmate (I was in kindergarten)that’s why the story is stupid) and I never noticed until a year later, that the fish was GONE. I never saw that fish again.

I had a leopard geko that was so sweet and calm and his name was haku and I got another leopard geko named sen and once I put sen and haku next to each other haku wouldent move and he made this sound so I automatically told my mom and a few days later we found out haku was a girl (and sen is a boy)so me and my mom thought he was pregnant so my mom went (I went to school)I had a early dessmisel and my mom was crying I said what's wrong and she said haku (she had haku in a cage on her lap) has 3 more days to live after the three days we went to the vet and haku was climbing (my arms were criscrosed ) up my arm and curled up like he knew what was gonna happen to him but he was still smiling and then the docters took him away from me. Btw he wasn't eating and I cry about it every night he's still in my freezer to this day. But don't worry I still have sen and a new lizard named kodama! r.i.p haku da sweet sweet lizard that never bitten enyone but kissed

If you get a beardie, make sure to get it from a breeder-NOT A PET SHOP. I got mine from a chain pet shop, and they did disclose that she was the last one they had and she was taken in back because she wasn't eating as good as the others and they were hand feeding her, and I decided to take her. 2 years later, and I do still have her, but we suspected she was partly blind, so we took her to a reptile shop/breeder who looked at her and agreed. She's completely blind in her left eye and probably partly blind in her right eye, so she can't actually catch bugs on her own. I still love her and wouldn't trade her for the world, but she is a huge commitment, so I just can't recommend chain pet shops.

this happened to my dog. She was born with something wrong with a spinal disc, that shows early symptoms at around age 7. We noticed these symptoms (whining randomly, going to one specific spot over and over) and took her to the emergency vets. They told us there that she had diabetes and arthritis. Both of which, was false. The medication she took for that made her whole condition worse, so we paid over £1000 to get her into surgery, to see what was wrong. They found the problem, but because of the late diagnosis, she passed away during recovery. If the vet had experienced staff, she could have survived with one scar. But she died because of one man. And it still has messed me up completely to this day. I feel you girl, love you x

The saddest story of one of my pets,
I had a dwarf hamster (white with a grey stripe on her back) and she was called Honey, I love her, she was my first pet and everyday after school I held her and she was so cute and I thought she would live a long time, my sister had a dwarf hamster too (brown with a. Black stripe on her back) and she was called poppy and the bad thing was they where both girls and when we got them we decided to put them in the same cage and one night my parents heard them fighting and they got them separated (honey got the better cage and poppy got another) and when they separated them they found that poppy had bitten honey and she was bleeding.
In a few weeks honey started getting red lumps on her head, legs and face and back, then in a few weeks she started getting worse, and then...on Valentine’s Day that year, I woke up all exited to see her and give her a hug, and she was lying there in her cage, dead and I started screaming and crying and my parents gave me a hug but I was so sad about her, we buried her and I gave her a little coffin, I loved her and missed her but I moved on, I still think of her but I have a. Dog now and he is lovely and I love him but in my heart I will still love my little honey
    💜🐹

    I feel your pain, literally. Riley (girl hedgehog) died today mid-day from what i think was ear infection or WHS or both, because she showed all signs of having an ear infection because she was shaking, wobbling, scratching and she was paralysed, (WHS signs) and since she was my first hedgehog, i was doing some research about hibernating, and some side effects that would cause death during hibernation, then this came up;
"THERE ARE ACTUALLY A FEW WAYS YOU CAN TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A HIBERNATING HEDGEHOG AND A DEAD ONE. WHEN A HEDGEHOG HIBERNATES, IT BALLS UP INTO A TIGHT BALL, SO IF IT'S LAID OUT FLAT THEN IT'S MOST LIKELY DEAD."
After i read it, i glanced over at Riley, and I realized she wasn't curled up, moving or breathing, i did some research of ways and signs for illnesses, near death and possibilities of death, at first i thought it was a heart disease, (sudden death) but when i did more research, i found that she had the possibility of having WHS or ear infection, it was very unaccepted, because the day before and before that day, she was very energetic, curious, calm, adventurous, well fed and happy, then poof! dead :/
