Red oak is always nice to cut and even off these crappy logs atleast one side of the log is clear with no branches so still get some 1 common and FAS lumber
The hydraulic are really powerful and dogs are super sharp but when I get donwn to the cants. The dogs don’t leave much of a mark the logs are so hard and frozen.
The head rig is 30 years old still a great pc of equipment. The carriage needs a little work. Probably end up getting a refurbished one from Helle so then we will have a bunch of spare parts Bunks needs rebuilding and the steel is starting to get brittle after 30 years sawing 300 logs a day and hopefully upgrade the setworks Sawmill hydraulics is always very friendly when we call for parts and they get them to us right away had a great relationship for 30 years they are great people your relatives and make a hell of a sawmill in my opinion
Yes sir here at the pallet mill we sort by species and because we cut certain lengths like 48” 60” 72”. We sort our logs 8ft 10ft 12ft 14ft 16ft. So each species has 4 or 5 piles The grade mill tho sorts by species but not lengths. They just do 16 and shorter in one pile. Then have piles for longer stuff they saw hardwoods up to 38 feet long
We have a planer mill. Flooring plant. And a kiln dried grading operation The planer mill is also where our stickers and pointed stakes are made all the lumber that is sawn every year. Either gets sold for grade lumber. Turned into hardwood flooring and the stuff that doesn’t sell is made into pointed garden stakes hardwood and softwood. Then we cut. Ties beams and cants. Everything is consumed into a product that is made on the property and then sold Right now basically the big bandsaw mill is only taking the select and better lumber off the logs very little 1 common then the rest is being cut into cants for the pallet mill because we are crazy crazy busy. Then also sawing RR Ties
@JohnNaturkach al tho right now because the economy people just aren’t spending a lot of money on extras like that so the flooring department has been very slow.
@ that may not work out lol with 25% tariffs lol I heard that American military needs 11 million bdft of red oak for decking instead of buying lumber from South America

I am amazed that the dogs are biting into the logs while there is still bark on the log and the wood is frozen.

If you watch the big bandsaw cutting the 40” cottonwood the dogs kept slipping off
The dogs do slip off when it’s cold like this especially when I get bigger logs
Congrats on getting something out of Nothing !! You are a cutting Master
Thank you. I really appreciate that.
Watched your video for first time. The name on your sawmill is my relatives in Farmington IL. Where are you located?
We are in Canada but yes everything for the headsaw comes from Helle

I’m guessing you guys have no need for a planer mill? Or am I missing something?

@ and some how I knew you guys would make flooring. Especially with all the hardwood you cut. 👍👍👍
@JohnNaturkach al tho right now because the economy people just aren’t spending a lot of money on extras like that so the flooring department has been very slow.
