Really enjoying these man!! The way you made that edge selection at the start implies you don't really make use of Ring select. Everyone is down with the edge-loops but edge-rings rarely get the same love. Ctrl+Alt click for Ring select, Ctrl+Alt+Shift click for additive Ring select. Ctrl+Shift+L > f9 > Ring for Multi-select Ring.
old habits! Always tips with you haha. I'll get refined to proper sharpness with you in tow. Oh wait ctrl alt shift click. Man... thats getting to kung fu key level haha. Ill have to work up to that level of hand dexterity.
@@masterxeon1001 Yeah I always try to become like a Mozart level hotkey virtuoso hahah and like to help others become Blender Ninjas as well :-) Hope you don't mind my tips, they're not intended as complaints ;-), I generally assume you already know all of this stuff but posting it may serve as a reminder to others. I've actually been preparing a small list of Boxcutter/HardOps tweaks and bugs I'd like to see addressed, I've just been sitting on it to come up with the best way to communicate it to you.
After subdividing, to improve performance, you could chop the model into a 16th then instance rotate it to get the full shape back. Then transfer the normals fro the original to hide the non connected verts.
@@masterxeon1001 oh yeah, I mean still do it all traditionally, but then at the end (because it's all repeated patterns), if you wanted to get fast performance in the viewport and faster renders, you could then make it into a instanced curved sections. Unless you plan to animate it with a surface deform or mesh deform modifier (can never remember which is which).
I don't know if you tried it but someone made an addon called "Edge Flow" that is a similar tool as Maya "Edge Flow". It's a really nice tool to adjust edge loops and keep the whole curvature ! ;I was thinking about it when you had to add edges to the rim around 27:48 I think it would be much easier and keep the clean cuvature of the wheel ! :) Keep up the great work
If you look closely, the profile of the original is not symmetrical at all. It's what I think is called a herringbone pattern, as opposed to a diamond pattern.
I have a long way to go before I can even approach this level of proficiency! I noticed that the source photo shows 5 spokes rather than the six that were modelled. I know the source is solely for inspiration and that you're demonstrating processes rather than trying to make an exact duplicate, but I've been trying to work out whether the number of spokes would influence the number of segments in the hub cylinder i.e. use 40 or 60 for a 5 spoke wheel?
always something to get wrong when an image is involved! Also I could have made 5 work with enough forsight and on the fly replanning. ua-cam.com/video/m2RG-EmKp8E/v-deo.html There were a few opportunities for corrections missed.
Can somebody explain to me what EM Macro does. In some cases it extrudes along normals but in the bigening it did some crazy rotated subdivide thing to the plane. I am confused! 🤔
Love this segments of of how to model better geo every day. ALSO , Is tilda this " ~ " (if it is the new menu does not work on german and portuguese keyboard or im made difrently (blody cake brain)
I just add a QWERTY keyboard to windows and use "windows key+spacebar" to quickly jump to it. I also activate "Let me set a different input method for each app window" in keyboard settings. I found that remapping keys from QWERTY to AZERTY is simply not worth it as most software come with its shortcut philosophy made for QWERTY. I just remap "CTRL+W" to be something else other than close so I don't lose my work when I accidently tap it instead of CTRL+Z.

Damn you’re on the grind with this subd workflow. Truly an inspiration.

goal is to show it more traditional. You may never see me transferring normals.

always something more to an image! Thanks for pointing it out!

38:55 - Couldn't "LoopTools -> Circle" for each circle loop help with the curvature?
probably. Theres always a way. Thanks for the reminder!
with the amount of loops at the end tho. It would have been a pita to deal with.
