- For this Transmission of Traitor Primarch we shall tell the tale of the Lord of Death: Mortarion.
Raised by the Necromancer High Lord of Barbarus, the 'Child of Death' would wage a resistance to emancipate his people from the tyranny of his foster-father.

Mortarion is one of the best Primarch's story wise. I especially love how he became the very thing he hated
His Character is great
He was actually one of the softest and most loving Primarchs
Having wept openly for his sons more than once
Its almost as if the Deathgaurds impossible will and unbreakable forward movement..unfeeling, uncarinf efficient killers without any embellishments....

Its the book where Mortarion and the Death Gaurd actually fall to Chaos.
It explains a lot about them and reqlly fleshes out their characters
Its pretty much thr only book in thr HH series that is legitimatly DeathGaurd only
I love him to ! Hes so cool ! Any idea why he hates physkers so much ? If I ever play him I might not include any physkers just lore wise haha unless I lose a few games and need to step up my list cuz physkers for death guard are not to bad at all. I love 40k. Its my favorite sci fi.
I never blamed the death guard for being so loyal to mortarion. They were given a debt they could never repay when he saved them from the pale kings

I like to think Morty was basically chosen by Nurgle from birth. Nurgle placed him on Barbarus with the explicit intent of corrupting him. Perhaps if his brothers had treated him different and the Emperor treated him with less apathy he could've been protected from corruption

I love how every step he takes he just takes 3 steps back.
Morty really needs some anti depression meds and much hugs. Many many hugs, perhaps one million in a row.
here we have Vulcan's opposite number. both were sent to death worlds beset by inhuman foes. both where issued a challenge by the Emp, both almost died (though vulcan wouldn't have stay dead) and where save by the emperor. both would suffer from being unable to die, V tortured to madness by Kurze, M tormented by nurgle their legion where both known for being extra durable, even the methods of war were similar the Death Guard using poison in place of fire. then the contrast Morty resented the Emp where vulcan respected him V embodies compassion M implacability.
And the foulness of weapons favoured by the Death Guard countered by the horrifying yet purifying flame of the Salamanders
Vulkans deathworld wasn't as bad as M's tho and his challenge was a pure contest while M's challenge was his long held goal to kill his adopted psyker father (doesn't help that big E is a psyker so M would naturally mistrust him)
Whereas vulkan had a back and forth with big E and only had to forfeit his pride (and a large lizard corpse) and service M had let go of everything his life has struggled to amount too so far for a stranger psyker who claimed he was his real dad (already had daddy issues)
The devil is really in the details, I agree overall with your point
Mortarion and his Death Guard were not foul worshippers of Chaos, but instead they normal rebels that had many grievances against his Father Imperium though it was his First Captain betrayal that doom him and his Legion.
Hum to be fair his grievance are kind of petty and he himself is an hypocrite.
Edit : compared to someone like Konrad kurze or Angron for exemple .
I would say he is as petty as perturabo but at least perturabo wasn’t an hypocrite.
Mortarion's main grievance was wounded pride, He NEEDED to be the one to control the liberation of his planet. A tyrant from the start. A weak primarch.
Mortarion was one of the biggest hypocrites among the Primarchs up there with Leman.

Its so ironic a while lot of the traitor legions follow the Sith Rule of 2. The 1st Captain's or leaders either turned against their primarchs or abandoned them in favor of chaos.
Kharn is fighting under Angron currently and who knows whatever the Emperor's Children incompetent first Captain is doing.

The funny thing is not all traitor forest captains follow the pattern.
Sure, Abadon, Erebus, Typhus, Ahriman, and Kharn struck on their own and made a name for themselves, but the other first captains essentially went a different route.
Sevetar essentially abandoned his legion and potentially became a founder of the Grey Knights chapter.
Perturabo’s is so forgotten or it was Dantioch and he went loyalist.
Alpharius legion is Alpharius.
And Fulgrim’s first captain was killed my him, replaced by a tryhard with hax ability to hides his failures.
@@Eckskalibur Alpha Legion First Captain is actually in the final Siege of Terra book and I think Emperor's Children first Captain is still alive when his head got stitched back to his body when Fulgrim killed him. Emperor's Children will receive the spotlight next edition so I'm gonna wait for that.

Haven’t read or have gotten a fuller summary of Siege yet, but as far as I’ve heard Alpharius is basically made of its Primarch and his body doubles.
And Emperor’s Children’s First Captain became a shambling corpse or a ghoul at best.

Wherever morty and future death guard walked,nature would bloom with every step,there indomitable will and resilence being the near all persistence of nature incarnate, with morty aditionaly able to produce either his aura of exaustion,or an aura of healing that cleanses disease and heals those within his presence

You should be careful what you wish for. In this day in age when anything becomes popular/mainstream you can bet that the quality will degrade in order to capture the attention of more people. The true balance is to stay niche and under the radar while having enough loyal fans support you or even help in your endeavors. Look at say Blizzard entertainment or Disney Star Wars/Marvel as a fine example of what happens.
@K Rel hey man I totally feel what you saying as I be thinking the same way with some of my fav music artists. However I don't think it's necessarily the best thing to hope that the party you're rooting for stays small/niche especially when they seem like they want to go big themselves. Feels selfish in my opinion. But once again, I totally feel you man. These days the only company I really have faith in is Fromsoft lmao.

Some primarchs have legit reason to dislike emperor mortarion should not be one
He was weak minded, strong of body weak of mind to let "revenge " becuase it wasn't me to make him betray everyone
It isn't fully about the revenge is about the statement it would have been a statement to his people that even the weak can overthrow a tyrant or die trying and the Emperor stole the choice of dying on his terms and replaced it with the Emperor as his new tyrant

There's a rumor going around that Morty is to get redeemed, but what do you guys think?
Thats quite dumb, it's pretty obvious he's completely engrossed in nurgles plagues. And he's a daemon, it'd be impossible for him to be redeemed.
Mortarion has always been so consumed by "daddy issues" that it would only take the Emperor saying, "I'm sorry my son. I see the harm my callous disregard has done to you. I forgive you, as I hope you could forgive me." Mortarion would eat that up and be on a Terra bound ship to kneel at the feet of the Emperor before nightfall.

@@magikot It's pretty clear Morty hates the emperor, and ferrus is already a major candidate for leading the damned. As he's dead And would be perfect to lead a once dead now reborn legion.
I see Magnus being more likely to be redeemed, he's didn’t join chaos willingly, he did it out of desperation and Tzeentch took advantage of that. I also say Fulgrim as well, but even when he got rid of the demon inside him he still kept being Slaanesh’s minion at his own free will, not to mention theirs his clone who is pretty much uncorrupted him.
Morty already had issues with the Meperor from the beginning so I don’t see him joining back with his dad's empire anytime soon.

What power can Nurgle give to them, and what power can they give to him?
(Some Nurgle warriors have a shark fin-shaped horn on their helmet or head, especially those of Gutrot Spume)
Wood, the true element of Nurgle's weapons and bodies!
Jaghatai Khan and White Scars as Nurgle's Legion, with poisonous wooden skeletons and thorns, bringers of the plague storm (with Rotigus Rainfather at their side).
After each hunt and victory they dip the skulls in poison, in honor of Nurgle.
(They symbolize the more natural side of the God of Death)
There was once a Keeper of Secrets who annihilated an Eldar Craftworld by possessing a vulnerable Avatar of Khaine.
How devastating would it be if he gets possessed by a Great Unclean One?
A serious critique of Nurgle's forces: large, massive, plagued/poisonous bodies but more harder and less rotten.

I'm really curious.
Imagine if instead of Loyalist Mortarion and Death Guard (except Typhon and followers of course) it was Traitor Jaghatai Khan (later with crow wings as a gift from the plagued Crowfather) and White Scars (all corrupted by the now poisonous Sorcerer Hasik Noyan-Khan) who fell to Nurgle!
(An example Plague Ogors with super speed)
How is their speech and fighting?
And how does Rogal use the XIV Legion's abilities to defend Terra?
(Here Mortarion used his psychic power to destroy the Necromancers and Necare, with his tough Librarians harshly disciplined, very different from the reckless Magnus and Thousand Sons)

So.... the choice has been made- Mortarion battling the Khan upon visiting the now Ashened Prospero
So mortarion was very bitter which was understandable, coming from a Father that never cared, swearing his head will be claimed only for the emperor to save him but also deny him the final victory, not really caring for chaos and just wanting to leave he joined Horus, the betrayal happens and Mortarion sees his sons are still down there more resilient than ever so he makes way to the surface of Istvaan with his Legion at the flanks only for the guerrilla tacticsused by the loyalists to almost take the primarchs life (they’d stolen a heavy tank, kept the livery’s on an attempted to assassinate him with it as they came up to “support” him
Back in orbit there was an issue, all their astropaths were dead. Thanks to Calas Typhon who’d secretly been serving the Grandfather in secret and had hidden his psyker powers until now offered to guide the Death Guard Fleet, only to send them straight into Nurgle’s realm and have their service eternally enthralled to the God of the Plauge

Each corrupted primarch is a terrible woe. Mortarion, Magnus, Fulgrim, Lorgar - none of them initially was a bad person. Chain of misfortunes and lies of evil gods confused and doomed them

I am really hoping with GW signing these authors to long term, book deals, giving them a direction to move away from the cyclic story line of never going forward, always coming back to the same spot, as when the story started, that we will see proper novels written about the traders and the loyalist primarchs. I am hoping that we can diverge away from such chaos, heavy stupidity because they can now move the storyline to the right and actual years. I know a lot of people don’t like it but we have to support the movement while putting out that it needs to be more well thought out. I personally think that the primaris marines had a good valid point to be in the plot. Why wouldn’t this new fight that’s being taken to the galaxy need a finer, tuned soldier. We know that the emperor didn’t make the best space marines he made the ones that were capable of being mass produced during the great crusade. Now we have these hyper specific space marines that we can argue about all of the things that should’ve done to flush out how they were created but 10,000 years to create a slightly better version of the space marine. Yeah I think that’s totally within reason considering the emperor of mankind wasn’t doing it. I am hoping, really hoping in the future that meaningful impactful stories can be written about the different traders furthering the initiative of not just chaos but themselves. Trying to achieve leverage and different things to get back at the more objective driven points that have been given to us about the traders to begin with. We saw the traders fall and turn to chaos. We can call that act two with act one being, the great crusade. We saw an act three the emperor defeat chaos not in definitely but put them into a future not set in stone pathway. Then we saw in act 4, RG makes a comeback and the galaxy terrace allowing this plan to get a little closer to coming to fruition. I would say that that’s where we’re at but I’m hoping it gets better moving forward

For some reason I truly believed that Morty came from Chemos. Probably due to how literal GW are with thing (the name Games Workshop for one).
Ummm unless the story was redacted. Mortarion defeated Linus Guranaton. That's name that was carved on Mortaion's heart. Actually I think that is the name of the audio drama where it happens.

A pathetic cowardly hypocrite. Excellently written in a way that makes me love to hate him. This is one reason I love 40k so much. Even characters I reject are written so viscerally with care and nuanced development that I can appreciate just how much I despise them. There's few factions I'm utterly indifferent towards, that's just how good the world building is!
