    A note on TIP 72, which I feel like I need to clarify: I meant this as an “if you are boarding late/last” situation. Not just anytime you board. Obviously, we all want the space above our heads, but for those boarding last I’ve seen them get to their seats and there is no more space, and then the flight attendant just ends up taking their bag up front anyways. It was meant more as a save time tip, not to be discourteous to your fellow passengers :)

      @adamclare33 Рік тому +2

      Sometimes they offer to check bags at the gate free of charge, I have done this before. I think its a good option, if you dont need your bag durring the flight, and especially if you have no connections. The bag will get taken from the door of the plane down to the ground and then loaded directly into the plane, so you will know 100% that your bag is on the plane (as long as you arnt the last person arriving, or late).

      Not sure everyone watching your video would take the time to read the comments section and see your "clarification". You should really REMOVE this "tip" as placing bags at the front of the plane way forward of a seat allocation is an increasing problem.

    I was born into a military family and was myself a soldier. I loved all of your tips and am surprised how simple and sensible most of them are. A few additions to consider:
    1. As most men don't carry purses, I bring a large wallet on a lanyard that I've adjusted to my comfort. It is "RF proof" so credit cards can't be scanned, large enough for passport/ boarding passes/ money/ thumb drives and sd cards/ even cell phone. With the exception of security checks, it is always around my neck. If I lost everything else, this small item is everything I would need to arrive with.
    2. My carry on has all my needed toiletries and and quick change of clothes (to include a pair of shower shoes) in case I'm forced to stay a prolonged time at an unplanned layover.
    3. I've traveled at times with injuries and discovered that the longer direct flights can be quite uncomfortable so routes with an extra flight change can be a better option (Denver to Tokyo direct once did a number on my back).
    4. Just to enhance your point on dressing in layers for the flight.. where and when you're traveling must play a part in your planning. Returning to find my car during a blizzard in Colorado Springs from the summer time in Manila made forethought a joyous point of pride!
    Good work!

    I have one to add, if you are traveling in Winter, and flying out of a cold weather location, skip the first flight of the day if possible. There is a greater risk of delays for deicing, and complications that come with. Aircraft are turned off after the last flight of the day, so there is a high probability expecially in smaller aircraft for iced water lines, etc.

    • @heynadine
      @heynadine  Рік тому +2

      YES, this is soo true!! And it's just colder in the morning as well so even greater chance of needing de-icing

    • @iPlayOnSpica
      @iPlayOnSpica Рік тому

      Can confirm, plus APU's (auxiliary power units) may fail to cooperate, resulting in further delays in getting the aircraft powered up. These small engines are what initially power onboard pneumatic, electrical, and hydraulic systems in the absence of power from main engines and are also used to start the main engines (the big ones that actually propel the plane).

    The connection time is paramount. If I can choose a longer one, I will because delays happen. I always choose an isle seat in the front so I can get off the plane fast to make my connection and a window for the last leg.
    Paper docs are best. I printed my immigration QR code for the Dominican. The QR codes weren't working on phones when we landed. I was able to bypass practically everyone who had to use their phone bc mine was printed out.

    Bad advice about grabbing overhead space before your seat-that is totally unfair to those sitting there, who will be forced to store their bags past their seats, causing chaos.

    • @heynadine
      @heynadine  Рік тому +21

      This is only assuming that the plane and overhead space is already full. Like if you are one of the last to board. Obviously this isn't a desirable option for anyone since I'm sure most would like their bag overhead their own seat.

      @@wd1598 thank you! I’ve seen way too much chaos caused by people trying to get their bags in way before their seat. I have found that there is more available storage place in the back of the plane, anyway, so it is very likely there will be available overhead space if you happen to be sitting in the back. If you are the last on, the flight attendants will direct you. Trying to force your things in on your own before you have determined there is no space in the back of the plane is not the way to go.

    Hey Nadine, nice tips. The connection one was good esp if you are transferring to or from a domestic flight to an international flight, or if your flight and your connecting flight are in different terminals. Personally I only use paper boarding passes, as if you only have a digital pass your phone may run out of power, or you could be having issues trying to get the pass on your screen to be scanned, or the scanner will have issues trying to scan your digital psss. The last tip is one of your most important tips and should have been one of your first ones lol. Definitely makes the airport and flight experience more enjoyable and it may have unexpected benefits.

    Just back from Australia, 21 hours in total flying. Tips, warm jumper, compression socks, lip balm and eye drops (my eyes felt really dry). Wipes (anti bacterial and face wipes). Stop watching TV when eating, enjoy your food . Exercise at the back of the plane, squats, knee raises etc. Dubai airport is really big but it is very well sign posted plus you can always ask. Free showers in the toilets next to my gate! I dried myself off with a flannel!. Sleep on the plane if you can that is the best tip I can give!

    I disagree with a couple of things. Not all airlines board back to front. Delta boards front to back. If you sit at the back on a full flight on Delta they will eventually make you check your carry on. We almost got caught on this. I also don’t agree with putting your luggage over someone else’s seat. If they are in their seat, ask first. If they aren’t there yet, than they will likely need the space. Plus you are going to hold up the unloading by having to stop and get your luggage down.

  • @siohbon2
    @siohbon2 Рік тому +5

    Here’s a tip that I didn’t hear you mention. Sign up for TSA pre-check. It’s $78 for five years I believe. And it eliminates a lot of things that you have to do. Depending on your flight, a.k.a. domestic versus international, a lot of the things that they normally check on the regular line they do not check. You don’t have to remove your shoes, your belts, your electronics and things. they don’t want you to take them out of the bags/suitcases. You just put your carry-on and your personal item on the belt, it goes through and if they don’t have any questions, you’re off and running. And the TSA pre-check line is super short. (Oh, Maybe I shouldn’t have said anything about this. L O L).

    Don’t randomly put your carry on bag over someone else’s seat, just because it’s convenient, on your way to the back of the plane. The person sitting in that seat may need to use it. Sorry, have to disagree with one of your suggestions!

    Just a tip not to judge every security line by the people around you. I have been behind someone I assumed was a business traveler who apparently hadn't traveled in 20 years or so. Last month we were behind a woman in her 60s and her adult daughter. The older woman's carryon was holding up the line as my children and I stood there waiting to pass. Often families are nervous about air travel so they're more conscientious about following TSA rules.

    Also with my travel documents once I scan them I send them to my self as emails. Separate emails for different types of documents. So for example, say you need to replace a passport, one email would be a copy of the information page from the passport plus copies of birth certificate and other documents normally needed for obtaining a passport for you country. Other emails for credit and debit cards including information how to cancel or replace cards. List of medical prescriptions, eye glasses prescription, etc if you need any of these. Better to have access instead of trying to contact you doctor back home. A list of valuable items taken such as phone, laptops, etc with detail such as make, model, serial number and value in case you need to make an insurance claim. An email with my travel insurance. Email with travel itinerary and tickets, etc.

    Additional TRAVEL Tips for MILITARY FOLKS:
    1. Call your travel credit card company. Some will waive those nasty high annual fees for active duty personnel.
    2. Don't travel in your uniform, especially during foreign travel.
    3. Check with the airline rules on baggage for military travelers. Sometimes airlines allow additional free bags.
    4. Visit the USO during long layovers for free snacks, drinks, and comfort. Some locations even have beds.
    5. Carry your orders, some lounges allow free entry without a membership if you have orders.
    6. Enter your DoD ID as your Known Traveler Number to get TSA PreCheck.
    7. Keep all your receipts for reimbursements on official travel.

      10. Pack smartly. In some official travel situations, you're only allowed duffel bags, backpacks, or military gear. I've had a unique situation where I crossed the ocean on a ship but flew on a plane on the way back. For that return flight, at times I had to find a way to pick up all 5 of my wheel-less bags at once (they totaled at over 200lb/90kg) and walk (luckily, only for short distances). I weigh 130lb/59kg.

    When I was going to put my phone in the seatback pocket, I found a sick bag- with actual vomit in it- WTF.
    I called the flight attendant, and she didn't seem very shocked by it, and probably assumed that I was the one who had thrown up in the bag, even though I told her that it was there from before.

      You search for it on Google and find the site related to you country you are flying in and/or into. It'll usually be a government website or from and authoritative body. There are also many third party sites that allow you to enter your flight details and it'll tell you if you entitled to anything.

    Ask direction in CHINA Airport you will end up missing your flight. If you are not aware that your connecting flight will have you get out of the Airport to take a bus that will take you to another Airport from where you're going to catch your next flight. Local people speak little english with a very very strong Chinese accent. Good luck.

    Lost me at number 72. It’s incredibly rude to take the forward overhead bins if you are farther back in the plane, bc then the people who actually have those forward seats have no room for their items. It’s extremely inconsiderate.

    19:05: credit card symbols and atms "if any match a symbol on your card, then it'll work" nope, not always. In Japan, most atms only take domestic cards so if your card is a visa and the machine says visa, many atms still won't work if your card isn't Japanese (also applies to shopping by card in Japan. Basically, in Japan, do yourself a favour and take cash)

      I’ve been advised to use zip ties. The TSA can open it if needs be and zip tie it back. Especially use zip ties to keep your luggage left in your hotel room while you are out and about - it reduces the “crimes of opportunity”.
      A last reason to lock/ziptie when travelling is to keep your suitcase closed in handling and transferring your baggage with the thousands of other bags.

    QUESTION: So, if I wear my lace up tennis shoes, do think I will be ok to get through TSA? I leave Gainesville, FL then transfer at Atlanta. I am 74 1/2 so haven't reached the magic 75 years old quite yet. Am very, very nervous about my checked bag getting lost, about my carry on not having room overhead and MOST of all, about getting through TSA at Atlanta. Am packing all "liquids" in checked bag and THANK YOU for the tape over the lids idea!! Not going overseas - just trying to get to CA for a family visit and back to FL.

    wear comfortable shoes or you might risk blisters on the heel and it hurts when making a connection. I flew to 17hrs to SFO with bleeding heels…
    Book an hotel close to the airport. Might be more expensive but you are there when you fly. Like the Hilton in the Squaire or the Hampton in FRA or a hotel with a quick shuttle.

    Not always true about money exchange at the airport. One of my destinations has a rate that’s the same as anywhere else. It’s quite good exchange at the airport and convenient too.

    • @btl4life220

      I leave for my first trip to Europe in a few days and I’ve done a ton of research on this and whereas I’m sure it’s not true 100% of the time, most of the time the exchange rate will be better anywhere but the airport is what I’ve read and heard from recent travelers.

    • @deekang6244
      @deekang6244 Рік тому

      @@btl4life220 Go ahead. Do the research, it’s fine.
      I’m just telling you what my personal experience has been.
      As I said, not always true. But I’ve never ever seen a significant difference. A few cents worth. And sometimes, when you leave the airport, it’s very difficult to find somewhere to exchange money. Is it really worth saving ten dollars exchanging $1000 if you have to take half a day out of your trip to find somewhere to exchange money? This happened to me in France. So yes, it might be a bit cheaper, but is it worth it?
      So you do your research and decide for yourself.
      And yes, I travel to Korea once a year. So when I say that sometimes the rate is the same, then I speak from experience. It’s the same at Incheon airport as it is at the money exchangers in Seoul. And the airport exchange will often offer coupons.

      @@deekang6244 as I said, I did just do the research so this is the most up-to-date information as of March 2023. Also, just because one person has an experience doesn’t mean that everyone else will. I don’t care if you’ve traveled to Korea every year your entire life that doesn’t make your experience everyone’s experience. I was simply giving my opinion from my research, and recent as in 2023 travelers, just as you were giving your opinion
