I just heard about Wayfinder last week after seeing skillups video on it and bought it and absolutely love it. Bought it for my 2 sons as well and we have been playing it together. Combat is smooth and fun and it runs great on our systems. It is so worth the 25.00 price tag
well, the dev teams behind No Man's Sky and even the recent The First Descendant have never given up on players with old consoles, even when facing previous gen compatibility or performance issues
Thank you once again for your continued support for the game... the team truly poured their hearts into the game and gave everything they had with the cards they were dealt.
I started playing the early access about a month before the full realese and I've basically never stopped playing since. xD It's not like there is unlimited content to do (although there is quite a bit) but I just have so much fun exploring everything, trying playstyles with the different characters and I just love both the the artstyle and the feel of combat. Even if I have nothing else to do, I sometimes just join other open parties and help other players. It can be nice when I can't decide myself what to do and I like the ability to take a supportive role as well. :D I can add that I never played the game before the big rework so I don't miss what it was before but I understand that other were dissapointed with the change.
I was a founder and I gotta say they did a banger job fixing up the game. Ive put just around 190hrs I think rn and ive got most of the legendary armor for every character, 6 characters at Lv30 and most or fully built with blue/purple echoes and all legendary weapons, the whole story done plus most of the side quests and all mythic hunts. Ive still got a lot to do but im definitely satisfied with how the games turned out.
Glad this is getting attention! This is how you handle a game release. If it doesn't work, change tactics, adapt and listen to feedback. They recognized that the live-service was doomed, and pivoted. They literally did exactly what the whole gaming community has been saying. I'm honestly impressed. I'm picking it up the next chance I get too. Looks like fun!
I've been waiting for your take on this; -As an Exalted founder, I'm disappointed that I didn't get the product I asked for, but not only am I happy to get a product in the first place, I also have a feeling that the MMO vision they had would have been doomed to failure with its overfocus on grind and super-limited cosmetics outside of cash purchases. -The discord server was saturated in toxic positivity, but some forms of criticism stepped way over the line. I will never direct my anger and frustration as a gamer to developers themselves, but I will chew a game up and spit it out, pointing out flaws and making suggestions that benefit both parties. In the end, it's up to developers to decide if listening to player feedback is worth the delay in revenue; Some companies go so far as to release surveys and then just go about their vision, sometimes even insulting their players.
I think it is perfectly fine for developers to 100% stick to their artistic vision with only taking minor input from players. It is still art, afterall. Where I think this fails is if thay "vision" is not artistic, but monetary. Usually at the behest of publishers that are most likely forcing a developer to deviate from their artistic vision. That is, so long as the developers are cordial, even if they are firm. You can stick to your guns without telling your would-be playerbase to fuck off lol The original D3 development team is the perfect example of what not to do. They all got shit-canned for a reason... 😅
finally, been waiting for potato to cover this, i've really been thinking about getting back into this and have just been browsing yt if its in a good spot now, and it sure sounds like it is
I have twenty hours into this game and it is wonderful. Proud of the development team for sticking with this game. I think they have build a great mash up of a game, that takes inspiration from many, but lands on a finished product that stands on its own feet.
So funny you made this video now, I literally just reinstalled this week and have been playing and loving it again. Flexing founders stuff isn’t as fun with it not being mmo anymore but is funny to see people pop in and “WOW’ when they see Heroic Kyros haha. Really glad you’re covering the comeback on this.
Same here😂 I've been repping everything that came with the $120 founder pack, including the "Original" Title. I'm glad they didn't cancel production, I'm also hoping they succeed to the point that we get more content. I even spent the $20 for the CR supporter pack just because they deserve it at this point
@ yeah i got the CR pack but to support and cause i like CR haha spent couple hours decorating the in game house. Yeah i hope they have lots of content plan cause the game is well done and too good of lore and gameplay to leave as is or small updates. The only thing i don’t agree on is taking away micro transactions or at least the paid battle pass. Many people bitch about it and i get it, but they money to keep developing more stuff and the initial payment of the game doesn’t cover future cost. So since they got rid of it, which is absolutely cool how they put the cosmetics as armor sets and changed that aspect haha, if future content is behind paid DLC i’m all for it.
Heroic Kyros does not have any visible difference though? He only gets an extra rush echo slot and some negligible base stat increase. How would people go "wow" when there is no visual indicator? Also, if they really wanted Heroic Kyros is just a save edit away....
@ there is a noticeable difference. And true, you could do a scummy thing like that and most likely pretend to have been a supporter of the devs since day one 😂
Oh. So you can join in on online dungeons with randoms as well? That's actually good. I'm solo player mostly but doing dungeons like that with people is also enjoyable and allows for experiencing other characters that you do not use at the time.
Yeah, I'm really enjoying Wayfinder's transformation, the new way they've changed it is way better than it was before, and ya know...looking at it from a broader perspective, the industry has been getting pushback from gamers who WANT more single player and/or offline experiences. One cult classic that I feel this game channels well is Kingdoms of Amalur. I really enjoyed playing that, and it really had a kind of offline MMO feel, with the open world and story progression and free form quests and loot and crafting and such...without needing to be connected to the internet or playing with huge squads for raids or whatever. It was just a really good open world RPG with the same type of flow as an MMO, but for one player to enjoy. Really hoping this game taps into that type of player, that Airship Syndicate keeps adding content, and/or...prepares for a Wayfinder 2. After all, if this is going to be an offline single player experience, it's essentially a box product. They can take the learnings they get from Wayfinder 1, roll them into a new entry and make it a franchise. But that's the future... For now, Wayfinder feels great and it's definitely an easy recommend for people who like enjoyable ARPGs, but maybe don't want the online or MMO part of MMOs.
Kingdom of Amalur despite not having interesting story and pretty bland and boring dialogues managed to suck me in. Gameplay and aesthetics of the world were good enough for me to enjoy it.
@chillax319 Oh yeah, for sure, the dialogue was campy, the writing was too simple, you're absolutely correct. But yeah, its atmosphere was definitely alluring. AS channeling that would be smart. 👍
Good review! I really enjoy the game. I didn't have a chance to play it as an mmo, but its current state feels right. Definitely a borderlands feel, in the best way. Fun gameplay with a very cool style. Hope they continue supporting it. Would love a couch co-op and more characters in the near future.
i bought wayfinder early access and wasnt that hooked. i started as nissa but after unlocking a couple more characters thats where it clicked for me. switching up weapons with characters and making builds with the talents trees is whats keeping me playing more and more
I wasn't founder - I didn't like what I saw, watched many reviews and decided to skip on it. After their shift and 1.0 - I bought it and I don't regret it at all!
It's still on my list to get sometime. I only played in the one beta, but I liked it that 'has promise' sort of way. Plus, I'm a big fan of Joe Mad's art, so getting to immerse myself into a world made of it sounds amazing. It'll probably be next year, though. Juggling games right now (Armored Core VI finally, a second playthrough of Rogue Trader, a couple gachas, and, of course, Warframe). I'm loving Xaku and Trumna P probably too much, and with 1999 coming out in a month-ish there's no way I'm squeezing anything more in, before 2025, lol.
So the story is, after all, pretty good? That's nice to hear! I wasn't worried about gameplay much after someone compared it to Darksiders 2 but with more loot and so far no game from Airship Syndicate was not enjoyable to me. Their Darksiders Genesis feels more like D3 than actual D3 did....but it's not surprising since it's Joe Mad and some other people at Airship that made Darksiders IP in the first place. I've been waiting for this game since it's announcment and was always worried that MMO aspects may drag it down and it seems like it kinda did(I did not play in the game then, I was hoping it will be a Guild Wars 2 lite of sorts). Few days ago i bought it and today I'm going to start my fun with it.
I recall when this was originally announced and it piqued my interest but the more I saw the less interested I was. Seeing how the game has turned out versus the end product has rekindled my interest. I suspect I'll grab this when it goes on offer.
Wayfinder has redeemed itself. It definitely needs some more to do imo. It’s solid, fun and way less expensive than most games that feel like it. I would totally buy it for friends and family for the holidays 👍🏻
They deserve GOTY just for being the exact opposite of what happens to every single live service who fails at launch. I hope this becomes an example to other companies that, if u take passion over money, a lot of good games can still be saved!
I bought the premium bundle when the game released and I was really disappointed; I had high hopes for the game and I really wanted to like it, but it had many issues. I'm really glad that they've updated the game and fleshed it out, but I don't see myself playing it because it isnt the multiplayer experience I paid for originally.
Kept hope alive for this game all the way from the start. So happy it's finally becoming a success. Airship Syndicate deserves every accolade for turning this sinking ship around after DE's withdrawal. This however will always be a black spot on DE's name when it comes to me. Many of those initial problems were because of DE's side fumbling the bag. Heck the whole "MMO" thing was DE's idea, not Airship. The egregious microtransaction prices, the login queues, the server lag, the drip-feeding content - All DE. And while I'm glad I supported the game, I was none too happy when I found out DE got all the Founders and microtransaction money. Airship didn't get a cent. The fact that Airship had every single reason to fully can this game yet didn't shows pride in their work and the desire to do what's best for their customers. Thanks to that, the game's better than ever without the artificial longevity and exorbitant prices MMOs tended to have. Big W for Airship. Massive L for DE.
Alot of this info was learned when it was happening, but Skill Up did an interview with the devs as well that explains everything. Look up "Friends Per Second #45" and there's a timestamp for it.
@@AndYou.01 Wish I can help but I tried everything. UA-cam is deleting my post no matter how I try to explain how to get to the interview in question. Been here for 30 minutes rewriting the same post over and over. Just search for it. It's on the Skill Up channel, but hidden in the 45th podcast.
@@AndYou.01 Most of the info was on the Discord, but there were some interviews as well. But youtube refuses to let me explain where the most important interview in question is. It keeps deleting my posts. You'll just have to search for it, I give up.
It was an Idea to make it a light mmo, nothing wrong with that. But it does kinda held it back, DE probably will learn a little from this for future collabs cuz it's always better to publish offline games with polish multiplayer coop. I'm glad Wayfinder got their way and made it like similar to Remnant 1 and 2. The rogue like dungeon rpg is awesome. No hate to DE about the MMO idea, that's what they always lived on as their strong suit and worked but it needed time and investment, not to mention a lot of maintenance.
I bought the game recently and it's very fun for the price it's a bargain. It plays well, the art style is nice. Reminds me Remnant 2. We need more games like these.
@chettonex stop projecting buddy. Your 16 hours won't he the same as theirs. If you got bored then thats fine but telling someone else theyll get bored before theyve played it is nonsense. I have 200 hours and I know players with similar.
@@chettonex I got bored of diablo 4 in about 16 hours, and there one skin costs more than this game. Do not see why there is a need to hate on an actual indie dev if you got 16 hours out of it.
They aren't "classes" they are specific "Wayfinders." In other words they have their own story and personality. They aren't stand ins for the player like an Elder Scrolls game would have.
TBH my interest in the game was entirely from the fact it was going to be f2p and DE was publishing. I'm genuinely happy for the fans who still get to enjoy it in some form, but even at "just" $25 its a game I won't get to play now
If it looks like a game you would enjoy that much, put aside a little money each paycheck for it. Or you could spend a little less money on streaming services, vices like alcohol/cigarettes, or going out to eat. If there are no places to cut costs to pay for a 25$ game, I'm not sure free time should really be spent on gaming to begin with.
It's sad that DE steve Was the one who cut the cord on them. Going on to state in an interview that studios shouldn't give up on their live service game so easily, When he gave up on them..
Sad thing is all of this would have been possible while remaining an MMO. They improved the game and it's systems out of desperation because they lost the servers, which is why they had to tone down their liveservice greed and make the game enjoyable.
It’s a solid game. I just don’t like the way the characters look. They feel like they were designed for teenagers. Character creator with the different heroes being chosen for abilities only would’ve been amazing
Thank you for covering this Potato. How ironic is it that as far as the fantasy genre goes, Wayfinder looks 100x more interesting than SoulFrame? It's a really shame that DE dropped the ball on Waynfinder's lauch because SoulFrame could greatly benefit from importing some of Wayfinder's energy and vibes. I purchased the game based on SkillUp/Austin's review but I'm so glad to also see you revisit this game. You got me into Risk of Rain and Dav Draellon after all! Much love from Pennsylvania! :)
@@blaynegreiner9365 It does, I think this could be a bit of fun but the stutter is just unbearable. It's not localized to me sadly, if you look at the discussions about the game there are quite a a lot of folks having issues.
I would not call freezing and corrupting files “game changing “. After losing an entire dungeon’s worth of data, I deleted the game. Quite the rip-off actually!
Oh gosh, one whole dungeon of data? Like 15-30 minutes fully explored? You would have hated the early days of gaming where your entire save was borked and not able to be recovered on games that were a whole lot more difficult.
@ Do you feel like you just proved you are a troll? You should because you assumed you knew me and put down my perfectly valid experience to suck up to some “company”. I was playing games when they were invented moron. That is exactly why I know corrupted saves are no joke! Tell me how does it feel to screw over fellow gamers by recommending a game that freezes and corrupts data? You certainly seem pretty proud! Go hide little troll man and hope nobody discovers who you are IRL!
This game is second on my list of biggest disappointments in gaming. Anthem is #1, because it was such a fun game, that never got the updates it was promised. This is #2, because it was sold to us an mmo-lite, with a bunch of cool social systems, and it turned into this. I understand that this is DE's fault for dropping the game. But I can't help being very disappointed. This isn't what I paid $110 for.
On the flip side at least you have a game. Servers could be shutdown and you end up with nothing or anthem which is the same as nothing. So yeah sucks but you have a game in the end.
This is why paying into games before they are a complete experience is such a bad idea if you are easily disappointed or can't stand to lose the money. It isn't much different than gambling.
Yeah after watching this video I will not be buying this game. The gross amount of particle effects on screen at any given time is unbelievably annoying. Puzzling why they would do this. The art style looks cool then they shoot particle effects everywhere to cover it up. I can see why the mmo failed.
Wasted my money on the founder's pack and extra funds that I topped up to buy some weapon. On top of that all my progress got reset. I hope they don't make anymore games. Wish I can sue them
why couldn't they do this when it was still a mmo it would had been worth playing so sad i love the changes i just wish it was still a mmo we could use a nice mmo right about now
i can't wait till this "everything looks like fortnite" bs is over i don't understand... there must be some analytics that simply glazing a game with cartoony lanky characters and bright rainbow color atmosphere effects = $ fortnite is great... but i don't want every fricken game having that artstyle it's obnoxious
It’s just been made into a standard fare PvE game that will have a small lifespan. They’re looking to make back some lost cash while they move on to a new project. No one cares about this game anymore.
It being a single player/co op game actually lengthened its lifespan. If it had stayed on its former course, no one would have even been able to play at all lol As it is now, it may not get much in the way of new comtent, but the game itself will always be available, which is much better than a failed, inaccessible live service game.
@@mrsister032 there is no irony, soul frame is in pre alpha. Most game studios don’t even reveal gameplay at that point. It’s a blessing that we can give feedback at this point
sorry for being biased against the dev team, but they abandoned the entire PS4 player base, as if all PS4 players could afford a new console during the pandemic or magically pull a PS5 out of thin air during the shortage. and iirc, the game was originally announced for PS4 and PC. other than connectivity issues, the old PS4 could handle it pretty well until AS pulled the plug entirely with the Echoes update.
Wayfinder player here. It just gets boring after you finish the main quest line, that was also boring. Enemies have boring mechanics. Characters have 0 skill cap other than timing a parry (that most of them have like a huge 0,75 sec window). I honestly had more fun playing Dauntless than Wayfinder. The whole instanced dungeon but with player selected debuffs in order to farm stuff gets boring and tedious.
Nah, irreparably screwed up, I remember in the discord when EA was going and the devs were actively silencing and treating the players with genuine complaints and issues. I will never give this game or these devs the time of day ever again.

It's one of my favorite games of the year. It's just awesome.
I heard someone else say something similar but couldn't find any info about it. Do you have any links to some articles?

Hopefully they can optimise it to play well on the stream deck
Wayfinder definitely found their way.
...into the trash can.
Into the trash would have been if they kept it a live service game. They salvaged what would have otherwise been trash.
@@blaynegreiner9365 Does it still have the tranny playable character?
On my wishlist.
Played this day one and stopped since nothing was happening so im get back into it now
I got this yesterday and its been extremely fun. Wondering if they will continue updating it? I honstly wouldn't mind paying for expansions etc
Oo, i kinda understand why some people say it's like dragon nest
I bought the game recently and it's very fun for the price it's a bargain. It plays well, the art style is nice. Reminds me Remnant 2. We need more games like these.
Alright, im sold
Fantastic redemption story
I thought this was a recent game, like, this year
Been playing since last week! The game gives me Remnant vibes in a good way ^ ^
you will get bored at 16 hours. Gameplay gets way too repetitive and easy.
THIS GAME SLAPS SO GOOD!!!
Still no character customization? Still genderlocked classes?
Getting major Wildstar vibes from the animations and gameplay, are there people from Carbine on the dev team?
Damn wild star like this game would be amazing.
It's sad that DE steve Was the one who cut the cord on them. Going on to state in an interview that studios shouldn't give up on their live service game so easily, When he gave up on them..
Now they just need to put out a decent sale.
I just bought this one as the current mmo market is pretty stale right now. I'm liking it so far
I might buy it. I have to be honest the particle effects are way too much. Looks like vomit all over the screen.
Game is amazing . Just missing friends list, load outs, and voice chat.
Other than that, it's a 9/10
Medieval warframe without the grind? Sign me up.
Hopefully, one day, Epic does this with Fortnite Save the World.
epic game, I wish only for better loop
good to see they found their way
Badum, TSS
Sad thing is all of this would have been possible while remaining an MMO. They improved the game and it's systems out of desperation because they lost the servers, which is why they had to tone down their liveservice greed and make the game enjoyable.
You are conflating the developers for the publisher. They are neither the same company nor had the same vision.
i wish i could play it but it crashes at start
Cool
It’s a solid game. I just don’t like the way the characters look. They feel like they were designed for teenagers. Character creator with the different heroes being chosen for abilities only would’ve been amazing
Once you're in the Crucible and doing Mythic Hunts you will not care about the zones whatsoever lol
I was really waiting to get back into this but when i heard it's no longer an mmo, i lost interest.
Honestly I had the same thought process, I wanted an MMO. But I'm glad I gave it a second chance. Its a lot of fun
@TacticalPotato I've heard good things about it, so I might jump back in. Just not really feeling too pressed at the moment.
Gawd I wish this game was on PS4 or Switch
It will be on PS4 soon afaik
@Psycorde last I checked, they canceled their PS4 release and made it for PS5 only, with PC too
The story is not even finish yet…
Lora is a stand user
Thank you for covering this Potato. How ironic is it that as far as the fantasy genre goes, Wayfinder looks 100x more interesting than SoulFrame? It's a really shame that DE dropped the ball on Waynfinder's lauch because SoulFrame could greatly benefit from importing some of Wayfinder's energy and vibes. I purchased the game based on SkillUp/Austin's review but I'm so glad to also see you revisit this game. You got me into Risk of Rain and Dav Draellon after all! Much love from Pennsylvania! :)
when is the game going 2 be free 2 play?-since thats what the plan was but then the whole pay 2 play early access thing happened
If this game looked the way Legacy : Steel and Sorcery looks I would play it. I just dont like this colors
Tried it out and I have to say it ran so fecking poorly I had to refund it. This is simply not acceptable. 💩
That sucks, it seems to be pretty well optimized for most people even with really old PCs.
@@blaynegreiner9365 It does, I think this could be a bit of fun but the stutter is just unbearable. It's not localized to me sadly, if you look at the discussions about the game there are quite a a lot of folks having issues.
Xbox still no date given sad times cant wait need something to scratch that looter itch till borderlands 4
To bad its still not on xbox...😢
20 bucks on ps5 🎉
Wish I can sue them
why couldn't they do this when it was still a mmo it would had been worth playing so sad i love the changes i just wish it was still a mmo we could use a nice mmo right about now
i can't wait till this "everything looks like fortnite" bs is over
i don't understand... there must be some analytics that simply glazing a game with cartoony lanky characters and bright rainbow color atmosphere effects = $
fortnite is great... but i don't want every fricken game having that artstyle
it's obnoxious
It’s just been made into a standard fare PvE game that will have a small lifespan. They’re looking to make back some lost cash while they move on to a new project. No one cares about this game anymore.
It being a single player/co op game actually lengthened its lifespan. If it had stayed on its former course, no one would have even been able to play at all lol As it is now, it may not get much in the way of new comtent, but the game itself will always be available, which is much better than a failed, inaccessible live service game.
Not for me.
I don't think DE realise that a fantasy game with this kind of art style and world is what most people want not the overly vague and artsy soul frame
DE abandons Wayfinder, goes all in on Soulframe which looks terrible compared to this game. Irony.
Soul frame is in pre alpha what do you mean
@@mrsister032 there is no irony, soul frame is in pre alpha. Most game studios don’t even reveal gameplay at that point. It’s a blessing that we can give feedback at this point
lets not forget de were the downfall for this game never forget that
I bought it after watching skillups review, and after a few hours, he is absolutely over selling, it’s not bad but not as good as he’s saying
sorry for being biased against the dev team, but they abandoned the entire PS4 player base, as if all PS4 players could afford a new console during the pandemic or magically pull a PS5 out of thin air during the shortage. and iirc, the game was originally announced for PS4 and PC. other than connectivity issues, the old PS4 could handle it pretty well until AS pulled the plug entirely with the Echoes update.
Wasn't the devs. Was some of the community team and the discord was a shit show full of abuse so I'll 100% ignore anything that came from that childish sesspool.
@@TacticalPotato Yup exactly this there were some power mad discord mods who got upset and started banning people
Yup, discord mods made it much worse. They should of had proper staff and stricter rules but they let people say anything without much consequences.
That wasnt the devs tho... That was a community team
@@Raydr62 That is exactly what we both said pal did you not read the comments or what lol
freetoplay>buytoplay>soon to be nft crypto🤣
It'll have some players sure but that's about it. The archetype model of characters are outdated and boring. And the gameplay gets super repetitive.
