    It's been six weeks since our last flight, so we wanted to head out and knock out a lap in the pattern. AND, we were really excited to check out our new NFlight Nomad microphone for Cecelia.
    The Nomad is an affordable aviation microphone that is equipped with dual GA plugs, and will work with any headset with a 2.5mm audio input. We are using it with the Bose QC35 II noise-cancelling headphones, and they sound great!
    This is a great way to get a nice noise cancelling headset for passengers for $500! Here are links to both the Nomad, and the Bose QC35:

    *A note. I was not paid to use or review the NFlight Nomad microphone. I reached out to NFlight and they did send me the mic to try out free of charge.

    Great video. I have very much enjoyed watching your channel grow. It feels like my own pilot skills deteriorate if I take more than 2 weeks off, so I understand your comments at the end fully. I had no idea this option existed for the Bose headset - If I had, I certainly would have reconsidered buying the more expensive Bose A20s I have for the passengers currently. Keep flying and posting - you improve with every post.

    I received the QC35ii for Christmas. I ran into the nflight mic while researching for another option. I bought the nflight because of better reviews. Glad to see this video, just received the mic Saturday and haven’t had a chance to fly with them yet.

    Nice video! I'm using Avee Aviation Mic with my Bose QC35, which is basically the same thing. Have been happy with it so far, even though the volume setting is a bit awkward. Was about $300 plus the price of the QC35.

      Can I ask what aircraft you fly and what the QC35's are like under full power and maybe with sunglasses and/or a hat on please. Also can the volume on each ear be adjusted separately, Eg left or right earpiece rather than combined volume (are there volume controls on the plugged attachment or are the separate - is that what makes adjusting them 'awkward'?).

    Good landing!
    I'm not on Instagram.......how do the David Clark DC One X's (cool headsets) compare to the Bose QC35's with the Nomad mic? Both seem very good headsets. Is your C172 noisy under power? Who's headsets were we listening through?

      Few points. One, hard to make a comparison with my daughter versus me. She is significantly softer, and further from the mic, sometimes she doesn't even crack the squelch. Two, this mic cost $249; my David Clarks are $900. Nflight sells a TSO'd David Clark microphone version of this for $450. I'm wearing the very headset my daughter is wearing in this video for an upcoming flight video so we can get a better comparison.

    In a few days I'll start ground school here in Germany. Nice to see how you're going through checklists and explaining what you're doing.
    I'm really struggling what headset to buy.
    Are you happy with the BOSE and the mic extension?
    BTW, my medical examiner who has also flown Tornado fighter jets for the German Luftwaffe recommended this solution over a A20, which is just to expensive for me right now.
    But I'm still not sure...

    Do you use your trim when landing? I’ll give it 2 rolls nose up on downwind, puts me at 80mph, 1 roll nose up on base, 70-72mph, 1/2-3/4 roll up on short final puts me right at 63-65mph for touchdown. I fly a 66 172G but was taught this method in a M & N models. Pretty much works in any plane once you figure out how trim required for a specific speed.

    • @MidlifePilot
      @MidlifePilot  3 роки тому +1

      Yes sir. I try to trim for every phase of flight and after every power change. On this approach I was high and fast and knew it. So did the best I could. :)

    I have the Bose QC35II headset. Do these headsets have the same decibel cancellation as the Bose A20? Do you find that the aftermarket microphone works as well? This is a terrific option if it performs nearly as well as opposed to spending another $1000 for another aviation headset.

    • @MidlifePilot
      @MidlifePilot  3 роки тому +1

      Not sure on the exact specs, but they definitely are plenty quiet for passengers. I also already had the QC35s so it’s a super affordable option to just add the microphone.

    • @DrDave-zk6nf
      @DrDave-zk6nf 3 роки тому +1

      I just looked for comparative specs and can’t find anything other than the A20s are heavier. It appears that the Bose A20’s have FAA TSO standards certifications for pilots. The Bose QC35II do not. Both do active noise cancellation so theoretically should protect hearing by allowing one to reduce the volume incoming. Neither works well to protect against sudden loud noises since noise cancellation requires more of a steady noise. Either should work in an airplane to reduce noise. The A20s are heavier and may clamp tighter so possibly might have more passive noise cancellation than the QC35II but I don’t know if they reduce decibels as much as the protective headsets worn at shooting ranges. Your suggestion seems a reasonable and economical solution for a passenger if you already own a noise cancelling headset. Look forward to you next video.

      I have two sets of Bose QC headsets one with an Avee mic and one with “uflymic”. I also have an A20 and they QC’s can’t hold a candle to the A20.

    • @musoseven8218
      @musoseven8218 3 роки тому +1

      @@scottmiller4711 Can I ask why the QC35's don't match up at all? I've heard that they're pretty close match, are your comments re clamping pressure/PNR issues, lack of Bluetooth or other reasons, such as in noisier aircraft?
      Also with the Avee mic etc can, then, each ear on the QC35's be adjusted for volume?
      Which is better the Avee or the UFM, or are they just different?
      Thanks, it would be really good to hear your thoughts.
