This was my first - and, for a long time, only - EC album which i bought at the time it came out. Had they not played "Doll Revolution" on the radio i would probably have never found him. A real gem. A pretty straight up rock record, but with such diversity and interesting twists that i kept coming back to it again snd again. His voice may be an aquired taste for some, but it's so unique and instantly recognizable, especially his vibrato.
I feel facts like these are never appreciated the way they should: Costello is the only guitar player in the band, and still the performance kicks ass, and doesn't sound too bare or lacking anything (try to hear it through the awful home taping audio quality here, and picture how it must have been live).

Love Conan's fist-pounding enthusiasm and EC's fiery performance!
Simply genius
When I heard this album on NPR it changed my life. Also, no sarcasm. Also, I forgot.

Rebel in a nylon shirt.
is this being sped up the joke?
Is keyboardist miming late '80s-early '90s Eric Clapton looks? :P
That "keyboardist" is the incomparable Steve Nieve!
