Thank you for being transparent and having no bias giving us options on MS Office alternatives. I do pay for MS Office personal the only reason is for Outlook email filter spam and no ads. I use Word for updating my resume. But, I am finding hard to justify paying for it, since I pay premium price for my devices Apple Ecosystem and I am minimalist and want to streamline my work flow and not be all over the place, so sticking with Apple’s stock apps and cancel MS Office subscription today. I was Windows PC user 20 years plus and I used it in combination with MS Office. Thank you insightful video

In Libre Office, you can choose to use Tabbed View via View-User Interface menu. It would bring it a bit closer to the ribbon tool bar that we all know in MS Office.

The ribbon menu in LibreOffice is still experimental. A for the ribbon menu "we all know in MS Office -- speak for yourself. I was using word processors for twenty years before Microsoft dreamed up that awful ribbon menu. The only way I can get any work done in Office is to use an add-on that brings back the classic menu system. That's why I like LibreOffice ad love FreeOffice.

@@williamwallace9826 I didn't like the ribbon menu in MS Office at first either, but I adapted to it. Now it's as seamless as the legacy menu. But depending on what is needed to use Word for, adaptation can definitely vary

The entire reason I love Libre Office (besides it being free) is that is DOES NOT have the ribbon. It's still got the old pre-2007 Office-style toolbars that MS should've never gotten rid of.

Your tutorials are so well done!
You thoroughly explain the different products and/or processes using an even tone and pace without using a lot of jargon or buzzwords.
This has helped me to bridge the gaps in MS product training areas that were not addressed by my own IT Dept., and for that I say 'thank you'.
With this video, I did learn about other products that I hadn't known about, and am trying one of them out as a backup just in case.
I was a bit surprised, though, that the Apache Open Office Suite was not on the list. There are no fees for its use, and it has virtually the same interface as the MS Office Suite. Either way, thanks again for providing a few alternatives to MS Office.

Kevin, what exactly happened at MS where their software stopped having polish and keeps getting dramatically resigned but with no follow through and less features:. Paint 3d, mail and calendar, photos, video editor, etc etc. All these have less functionality than their predecessors and from what I've seen have stopped getting feature updates for many years now. Why is MS no longer actively updating these core apps?

Hello, Kevin. Thanks for this wonderfully helpful video. Here's my question: If I use one of these great MS Word alternatives for proofreading (I'm about to start my freelancing business), will my clients be able to tell that I didn't use MS Word? Can't stand when making cell size formatting all the cells in the same columns and rows end up also being effected. Having ability to put multiple spreadsheets on one page just makes more sense.

Great wrap-around at the end, coming back to the question about paying for getting better. Which one might want. I'm a bit weary of even my own focus on free, because it might just be… habit. Get better stuff, help people who made that stuff possible, and work better, save your time. Even start liking your UI maybe :) .

So Libra Office appears to be the best one among all of those apps, but does it have an IPad, iPhone versions like WPS? The rest are not as good as Pages, Numbers, Keynote option for Mac users. I think, Libra could be a good option for PC, Mac, especially due to Draw, PDF editing etc.

I'm thinking about the first free option. Because whenever I open one of my documents from OneDrive, I get blocked from editing it. Then it's about 2 or 3 steps before I can access it. Also, I can't convert a doc from Excel into any other format. If it turns out that I'll need to convert docs more than once, I may just buy the 365 subscription. Thanks for the options!

Very well done. I'm retired, but do contract work for Mission to Amish People, thus have access to their Microsoft Office download. My wife, however, uses the old Office 10. She's an author and heard another writer friend who said that MS notified him of need to pay for the new office, so that makes her worried. She struggles with change and worries if she would ever need to switch without paying the high price for MS Office. I have Libre Office that I downloaded before I retired, and need to look at it a little more before deciding to ever switch. Thanks again for the options you explained.

I recommend to you the text editor "OnlyOffice Desktop Editor". It is free for personal use and highly compatible with Microsoft documents. I think it is good in your case because OnlyOffice is really focused on simplicity. You can do everything in him, but yet the menu and options are very simple, which may remind the old Office. Some Office suits, like Open Office are very different in layout and how to do certain things.

So, I just upgraded my laptop with a refurbished model, and it came with LibreOffice. I had been using Apache OpenOffice and really had no issues with it. Like many people I have a problem paying for Microsoft Office even though I love it. It turns out the old and no longer supported Apache OpenOffice is the framework for LibreOffice. Now, after watching this video I feel confident my old files from OpenOffice as well as my wife's Microsoft Office (provided by the company she works for) files will navigate between our systems seamlessly. Good tutorial. I canceled Office 365, because I'm just sick to death of "subscription services". I had an Office 2004 that I absolutely loved. I didn't need the new fancy bells and whistles anymore. My old laptop blue screened, so I lost everything. And I must've tossed my original CD for Office 2004, so I couldn't reload it. I just despise having to pay a new fee every year for something I already paid for. And again, I just don't need or want the new bells and whistles.

I have an old copy of MS Office on CD allowing me multiple copies for one payment.
I hate the SaaS model. Along with the requirement to be connected to the Internet. I work in remote areas with no net access.
As such I will purchase a licence that is a one time payment only

I've used Libre Office for years with great ease and success. But this year I bought a computer with windows 11 and it's almost unusable. I've had to jump through a bunch of tech-hoops to try to get it to work properly and it's just awful. So I went looking for an alternative and that's when I found this video. I've never heard of WPS Office before but went ahead and downloaded it and I love the spreadsheets program. Thanks for the alternatives!

I appreciate the info, but what is the fastest, cheapest way to convert an html file to a word file???

Wow...This is a really useful one for Microsoft users, in case of any emergency an alternative like Google Drive would serve well. Too many question marks in the thumbnail got me interesting Are there any alternatives I've never heard of. A fantastic strategy to pull viewers into the video. One more thing I'd like to convey that my name is "Vedanth." I am *OK* if you could call me "Vedanth."

FreeOffice has a dictionary and a spell checker. If you want it to underline misspelled words as you type then you just have to enable that feature in settings.

Been using Libre for yrs: certainly better than Office IMHO! Less glitchy. I ran a big studio for many years with PCs and Macs, and invariably any freezing that we had was caused by a Microsoft program! Thanks for these alternatives though; very useful to know.

I've been using Libre for a week and it's 1 problem after another for me. I'm just using it for a short ebook to upload to KDP. My pages split in 2, cant make my footer shorter and today, all of my info shifts to the center when I click center or all of my info skip to left when I click left. I give up!

@@yvonnemoore1128 Yes, for that job its better with InDesign (I wrote some books easily with that, and they convert well) also Word has an easier path to KDP.

Your claim that freeoffice does not have spellcheck is incorrect. From thier site:
Spell-check in 58 languages with Hunspell dictionaries.
    Automatic hyphenation in 33 languages
Automatic spell-check: Incorrectly written words are underlined in red

I am using Microsoft office almost from 25 years and when it comes at a any free alternative I think libri office is the best free alternative because when it compared on features it is more than enough it is very feature rich and it can do everything😊 it only Mises export in video format in libreoffice impress but it allows export in PDF in libreoffice writer I think pretty similar on the weight balance
