"Empty Nest" is set in Miami and tells of the day to day misadventures of a widowed pediatrician, Harry Weston, and his two adult daughters, Barbara and Carol Weston, who have come back to live with him after failed marriages. Much of the humor is derived from Barbara and Carols' ongoing attempts, and failure, to find the perfect partner, and once again leave the "nest". There is also the skirt-chasing next door neighbor, Charlie Dietz and Harry's southern nurse, Laverne Todd, unique for her unbelievable Hickory stories. Empty Nest is an American sitcom television series that originally aired on NBC from October 8, 1988, to April 29, 1995. The series, which was created as a spin-off of The Golden Girls by creator and producer Susan Harris, starred Richard Mulligan as recently widowed pediatrician Dr. Harry Weston, whose two adult daughters return home to live with him. Starring: Richard Mulligan, Kristy McNichol, Dinah Manoff, David Leisure, Park Overall, Paul Provenza, Lisa Rieffel, Marsha Warfield, Estelle Getty. @@robinlight
Sure, there is! It's someone that is more confident than they should be, given their intelligence, aptitudes, skills, knowledge, understanding and abilities, someone that isn't emotionally mature enough to understand all that they need for that level of confidence, someone that doesn't have the discernment, the insights or the good judgement/decision-making skills for what they're trying to accomplish, someone that doesn't have the critical reasoning or the information they need to be that confident. Overly confident people typically are rash in their assumptions, in their decision-making, they rush to judgment: they "go off half-cocked," making a ton of incorrect presumptions about other people and situations, without the knowledge, awareness, facts or proof to back it up. Correspondingly, they tend to be brash, and are often clueless about things and people that they claim to understand. They can be cocky, which some consider to be a synonym for *overly confident. They *can be brazen, unkind, egocentric, self-centered, and bold. Sometimes, rather quiet people, who are *not egocentric, can be overly confident, meaning that their level of confidence exceeds their ability, knowledge, skill or understanding to deal with a situation. "Overly confident" simply means that their confidence level is higher than their abilities or understanding. It can commonly be seen in young adults who may not have the life experience or wisdom for the thing they are trying to accomplish, yet their confidence level is very high. An example might be that they believe they can win a competition, receive a promotion, or gain a career in something that they are not suitably skilled or qualified to do. People have inappropriately high levels of confidence all the time: they are the polar opposite of the humble person that chronically believes they are not suited or qualified for something when they *are. You were confident in your belief that there was no such thing as someone being "overly confident," and your confidence exceeded your understanding that there is. :) Blanche's character makes it plain that they think they are "all of that," irresistably alluring, youthful and beautiful, etc. Clearly, there are those that *can resist, Harry being one, and doubtless there are those that wouldn't find Blanche to be all that alluring, or youthful, etc. Blanche's confidence is over-the-top, superceding the rest of Blanche's persona and the realities of their situation.
