"Empty Nest" is set in Miami and tells of the day to day misadventures of a widowed pediatrician, Harry Weston, and his two adult daughters, Barbara and Carol Weston, who have come back to live with him after failed marriages. Much of the humor is derived from Barbara and Carols' ongoing attempts, and failure, to find the perfect partner, and once again leave the "nest". There is also the skirt-chasing next door neighbor, Charlie Dietz and Harry's southern nurse, Laverne Todd, unique for her unbelievable Hickory stories. Empty Nest is an American sitcom television series that originally aired on NBC from October 8, 1988, to April 29, 1995. The series, which was created as a spin-off of The Golden Girls by creator and producer Susan Harris, starred Richard Mulligan as recently widowed pediatrician Dr. Harry Weston, whose two adult daughters return home to live with him. I was born in 85...my favorite memories are of me at my grandparents every weekend watching Golden Girls and empty nest with my grandma. My cousin would come sometimes and we'd play on the computer and at my grandfathers giant desk. and make believe she was Laverne and I was Harry (at age 5 or 6). Always wanted to be a dr. Because of this show. Life didn't end up that way for me, but the nostalgia has endured. Every so often I'll watch the entire series and still make belive my grandma is here watching with me.
I was born in "85" as well and I love the nostalgia of when I remember watching this with my grandparents when we used to live with them as a kid.
Dinah's figure in the scene around 15:28 is nothing short of "Vivian Leigh-esque" .

I love this show. The sisters sometimes argue, but Harry is a great father and doctor.
I always thought Carol was very bright, especially how she articulates. Her sister is right.

This is the 1st episode, whose opening sequence has added the following: the lyrics to the theme song: "One By One, We Fill The Days. We Find A Thousand Different Ways," Harry and Dreyfuss standing at the pier, getting the newspaper and the "Rain or Shine" part, where Harry and Dreyfuss were running.

The only thing that annoys me (understatement) in this episode is the "chicken-bits": chickens are creatures that have feelings (know what fear is and they feel pain), just like any other animal species (including humans).

Mulligan is HOT!
Carol was stronger before she moved in and fought Barbara for her dad’s affections. I liked her better this way in this episode. She needed more self worth throughout the series.
