See, im new to the game, and Im EXTREMELY liking the Interdictor. Aside from the high price, it seems like the best support ship in the game. Pair the Interdictor with Yularen, targeting scrambler and projection experts and it becomes the blocker medic. Put it on the vulnerable flank of your ISD, VSD or whatever the ship you want to live is. Yularen gives you a free engineering token every turn, making the Interdictor an engineering 8 ship.Soak up some damage with your own hull and block the heavy flank. Scramblers reduces incoming damage, engineering regains 4 shields per round with projection giving 2 to the other ship. You can make an ISD virtually unkillable or turn a VSD into an ISD. It can also take G8 to freeze the opponent in front of the star destroyers main guns. So yes, while its expensive, it turns your main ship into a raid boss. Again, im EXTREMELY new to the game, and I havnt had a chance to test my theory. But one of the first fleets I want to run is a Cymoon ISD supported by an Interdictor buff-mobile with an Arqitens picking up the flanks
I'm a big fan of the VSD, especially with the recent upgrades it has been given. VSD-II with D-caps, QBTs and Gunnery Teams is a fairly reasonable 100pts, and can provide some seriously nasty long-range artillery fire in a wide arc. Leading Shots can be a nice addition, but since the majority of the dice being rolled are blues anyway, YMMV. Jerjerrod is the new best friend of the VSD, especially if you take the time early in the game to take an engineering token in order to refresh the shield he chews up. Taking a Gozanti with Comms Net to feed them tokens is a winning strategy, the VSD really shines with those small incremental bonuses.
I feel like the someone is going to figure something out with the Interdictor and it's going to be nuts. I think it's in the Lambda category right now. People are excited when it comes out and then no one can find a place for it and then they figure out Palp and it's nuts. The Interdictor needs its "Palp"
Crabbok, you should have added a poll at the end of the video so we can vote too. Would make an interesting comparison with your list vs what the community thinks. Interesting list, though, I'd rate mine as: 1 - ISD (For all the obvious reasons.) 2 - Interdictor (As a heavy cruiser and as a support ship it provides plenty of punch and is quite tanky.) 3 - Gozanti (Same reasons you gave.) 4 - Arquitens (Same reasons.) 5 - Quasar (Same reasons.) 6- Victory (The speed/maneuverability is crud, especially vs highly mobile builds. You just can't get enough dice out there if you don't shut down the mobility game.) 7 - Gladiator (Same reasons.) 8 - Raider (Same reasons.)
Commented this on another video but wanted to add that it be cool to see a new video on what to get duplicates of but also your updated ranking of imperial and rebel ships and/or squadrons...6 possible videos!
They should have released the Ton-Falk instead of the Quasarfire for the Empire. It's been the primary Fleet carrier for the Empire in Star War lore for years. Originally the Quasar fire, most notable the Flurry, was a rebel snubfighter carrier converted from a cargo transport.
You underestimate the Gladiator with the Insidious title, engine techs, and assault concussion missiles. Turns into a mean little killer. and few good choice squadrons and leaders for support and it can get right mean.
Haven't played Armada yet, but because you're so enthusiastic about it, I'm starting to think about doing so...I am doing X-Wing currently, and have all of the Scum faction, and nearly all of the Rebels/Resistance, and want to fill those out (plus a few doubles, and the Empire/FO) before I get into another game...! Two questions for you: 1) I'd love to see a video comparing the ships that Armada and X-Wing share with each other (i.e. the GR-75, CR-90, Gozanti and Raider) within each of their systems; you ranked the GR-75 quite high (comparatively!) in Armada, but they're not as good in X-Wing in certain respects; likewise, the Raider was lowest for you here, but in X-Wing, they're pretty formidable. So, an analysis of that from someone like you who knows both systems incredibly well would be an intriguing thing to hear/see--the difference in scale makes all the difference, of course! 2) Has anyone ever done a "mixed" X-Wing/Armada game? I'd envision it going something like this: after the 2nd or 4th turn of Armada (or perhaps the 3rd if one wanted to make it simpler), any squadrons that are engaged then play out a full game on an adjacent mat; given that the actual extent of an X-Wing game would take about two minutes in real time, it would be an interesting way to change things up slightly and perhaps have some variety and crossover between the two systems; if one had Gozantis, Raiders, GR-75s and CR-90s near the engaging squadrons as well, then they could be thrown in for an epic match. It has possibilities...!?! Thanks for your awesome videos!
Phillip Bernhardt-House It's actually kinda funny that the reason the raider is so good in X wing is the reason it's not as good in armada. It's an anti fighter ship rather than an anti-ship ship.
Excellent point Taxes--I am having trouble conceptualizing/adjusting the scales in my mind at this stage (especially since I haven't yet experienced Armada!), and what is at stake in each game. It's interesting also that the CR-90 is Crabbok's favorite in the Rebel Armada ships (if I remember correctly), and in X-Wing, it's also pretty kick-ass!
I'm quite partial to the ISD at #1 thanks to the titles, especially "Relentless" but it's a good order I think. I don't use the carriers as much, so I would put the Gozanti lower than 3rd, but that's me. Like others have posted, I think the Gladiator should be higher, but all my successes with them have come when I run them in pairs, both as Glad-1. Using two Arquitens and two Gladiators has given me a lot of success.
I like the Arquitens a lot, you turned me on to it an I own 3 myself. That said I don't think it should rank number 1. I think as a singular sip in a list it's not great and it's native movement is pretty bad. I think, like with the Hammerheads on the rebel side, these are best run multiple in a list. That means I'd rank it 3rd or 4th at best. ISD for me has to be #1 followed by the Gozanti (especially with Minister Tua and ECM) after that I think Imperials could go in almost any order depending on the players play style.
I personally like the gladiator its a good ship to just ram into the enemy fleet and take them on at close range because of its black dice The interdictor I love it its a good ship but stupid expensive for what it does it would be cheaper to get a VSD where you get more firepower more squadron more engineering more shields and for a smaller price
I do think the ISD deserves the top spot due to its sheer presence and firepower. A well planned attack can decimate most other ship or flat out destroy small to medium ships.
Keyboard Athlete IMHO I believe so. It only says to add a blue die to your pool. It should not matter what color those base dice dice in your pool are or what range they were obtained at - however, as with any modifier, you need to be making a valid attack that puts at least one die in the pool.
In my area, everyone puts the VSD at the very bottom. How do you overcome it's speed and maneuverability problems? Yeah, you can use Jerjerrod, but he costs a shield every time you use him. What have you found really works to make the VSD effective?
Reece Hanzon Amen, I have tried VSDs so many times and have always had issues. My only "cure" is to issue Nav commands every turn. This is not a good cure if you try to use one as a carrier, etc. It is truly the most frustrating ship in the game; ought to be so much better and useful but it is not!
BB Wolf It would be a pretty easy fix, too: a new title card that gives the ship a Support Team slot (maybe with a negative point value to off set the cost of an additional upgrade). That way you can give it engine techs-still requires nav orders, but it ups both speed and maneuverability.
Reece Hanzon Something like that, yes - even if I had to pay points for an upgrade for the VSD not to suck at basic flying, I would do it. It's so close to being worthwhile, especially for the base cost, but...
Reece Hanzon 1 shield is a small price to pay to line up gunnery team, disposable capacitors and XI7s. Plus you can take flight controllers and expanded hangars to make it a good carrier.
Maybe if you only need to do it once, but any more than that, and you're just weakening your defense. And these days, you really can't afford to do that after the first two rounds or so.
The liberty MC80 with Madine is ridiculously maneuverable for a large base ship, but it can't quite do a 180. You need eight klicks to do that and only a CR90 at speed 4 with engine techs can do that.
Madine, manœuver token and engine tech give him : 2,2,1,1 on the tool. That's not a perfect 180° Still in One manoeuver it's attacking front arc then positionned attacking rear arc.
An interesting use for the raider: 2 raiders and 3 ties vs 2 CR90s and 2 xwings is a nice way to teach the game. Running them with no upgrades. Otherwise, yes the raider is an odd duck.
Hey Crabbok, love the Arquitens too, but I'm shocked you rate the Raider so low! The Quazar can have its role filled by other ships, though I'm not knocking it. The Raider has a unique niche that it hits and no ther ship quite does
I think my opponents from Saturday would disagree with your rating of the Glad so low. I agree Demo is great but Insidious is better than anyone will accept. Demo is the Anvil but Insidious is my Hammer.
I absolutely plan to. I've been out of town for a few weeks and haven't had any opportunities to play X-Wing for awhile. Planning on getting back into it as soon as I get back home!
you are just wrong about all of this. victory is too high, arq is infinitely too high. your metta must just be weird. Demolisher is by far the best title in the game and it doesn't matter if that's the only way that people use that ship. it can cripple or destroy any ship in the game.
garrett sorensen And another thing, it's wholey your own opinion of you think Demolisher is the best title. Personally, I don't think it is. I like sure, love it in fact, but it's not the best title in my opinion. If you are going to say Demolisher is the best title, you had better give several facts on how it is. The way you said it, I could easliy say Mon Karren is the best title, without any real facts. Saying it can cripple or kill any ship in the game is just reciting common knowledge. You have to go deeper.
I have to agree - the Glad with Demolisher is a "must include" in my builds, and typically the MDP of most of my games. Even after the rules nerf, it's still very, very good. You can really surprise people, get in close and unload with the black dice on the second attack. It can one-shot small ships and finish off capital ships, and there's often not much your opponent can do about it.
See, im new to the game, and Im EXTREMELY liking the Interdictor. Aside from the high price, it seems like the best support ship in the game. I wonder how different your list would be in 2020. Remake ???

Thak you for your ranking. I just bought the core set and this gave me some reasons to look for some smaller ships.
Commented this on another video but wanted to add that it be cool to see a new video on what to get duplicates of but also your updated ranking of imperial and rebel ships and/or squadrons...6 possible videos!
I KNEW you were going to have the Arquitens as your #1.
They should have released the Ton-Falk instead of the Quasarfire for the Empire. It's been the primary Fleet carrier for the Empire in Star War lore for years. Originally the Quasar fire, most notable the Flurry, was a rebel snubfighter carrier converted from a cargo transport.

Is there an updated video on the ships as there are more ships, etc?

Excellent, with a noticeably greater enthusiasm for the imperials....and quite right too!
I normally run a vsd if I cant afford a upgraded Isd

OMG!! The Raider looks so cool!!!
i know you rated the ISD #2, i wonder if you will change that rating when the KUAT and CYMOON refits are leased with the CHIMERA expansion
I personally like the gladiator its a good ship to just ram into the enemy fleet and take them on at close range because of its black dice
The interdictor I love it its a good ship but stupid expensive for what it does it would be cheaper to get a VSD where you get more firepower more squadron more engineering more shields and for a smaller price
You have alot more than 8k subscribers now!
Could you do a vid on best way to use ships
I do think the ISD deserves the top spot due to its sheer presence and firepower. A well planned attack can decimate most other ship or flat out destroy small to medium ships.
Quick wave 6 question: can the blue die gained from quad battery turrets be used at any range?
Keyboard Athlete IMHO I believe so. It only says to add a blue die to your pool. It should not matter what color those base dice dice in your pool are or what range they were obtained at - however, as with any modifier, you need to be making a valid attack that puts at least one die in the pool.

Ssd?
If you want to play with maneuverability you should try CR90s w/Engine Techs and Madine. 180 degree turns .
You can dot that with a MC80 Liberty-Class too. Pretty awesome.
The liberty MC80 with Madine is ridiculously maneuverable for a large base ship, but it can't quite do a 180. You need eight klicks to do that and only a CR90 at speed 4 with engine techs can do that.

Well done
Great! Now where's our X-Wing version?
Hey Crabbok, love the Arquitens too, but I'm shocked you rate the Raider so low! The Quazar can have its role filled by other ships, though I'm not knocking it. The Raider has a unique niche that it hits and no ther ship quite does

Isd #1 quasar #2 gozanti#3 woooo
If only he waited 2 years for the SSD
You should do some more x-wing battles/battle reports
I absolutely plan to. I've been out of town for a few weeks and haven't had any opportunities to play X-Wing for awhile. Planning on getting back into it as soon as I get back home!
Crabbok Awesome!
Rating the ships for the 3 x-wing factions would make for brilliant videos.
I clicked so fast...
