I think they just distributed every idea for the SS 86 line into everything. Going back to Siege, Springer was perfect. Arcee, Starscream, and everything Quintesson from ER are perfect, or as close as could be. Cyclonus looks amazing in Kingdom, and I've no doubt Galvatron is going to be every bit as good. The SS line has thus far picked up most of the rest, and I'll bet they will finish off whatever's left in the SS line.

Maybe listen to the soundtrack for further healing. Anyhow, back to the figure. So nice, I pre-ordered twice! One for robot mode, and one for vehicle mode to display beside it. A huge accomplishment all around.
I cannot believe this is a $30 figure. The quality looks OUTSTANDING. My only real complaint is the yellow hinge on the roof of the car, I think it looks fine on the legs, like a highlight. Either way, he’ll looks super great on the shelf next to my Quintesson Pit with the rest of the studio series.

'Mini masterpiece' has been thrown around in recent years, but this is truly worthy of the badge. Knew I had to preorder him and Grimlock as soon as they released, and sure enough they were out of stock on every online retailer here in the UK within 12 hours. I completely agree he is one of the best mainline transformers ever. Period.
We are living in the golden age of g1 toys. "Masterpiece on a budget" is fast becoming a meme. The next step is them rebooting g1 as a cg cartoon with updated robot design.
Yeah. Wouldn’t it be weird if they made a Netflix exclusive cartoon? Maybe they could focus on the war between the Autobots and deceptions before they crash into earth. What if they also tied g1 into beast wars into the third season? The voice acting might be flawed, but it would be awesome if that happened.
Great review!! I'm really looking forward to this one. I like the way that between Siege, ER, Kingdom, and the SS86 line, that they've managed to create just about everyone from the 86 movie perfectly. About the only thing missing is Wreck-Gar at this point. The biggest problem with these figures is that they're all cool enough for me to have to worry about my finances, haha!!

I own mp-28 and the value with this figure is pretty amazing it’s smaller sure but it’s almost like a little masterpiece great accessories and pose ability improved on some of the design even much less backpack car mode looks great no weird snappy bits on the chest neck his pipes look great Has a welder !!! And the saw holy cow all it’s missing is a Daniel not only did I pick this up but now I’m gonna keep an eye on this line
Good God. I've long since thought that deluxe class and deluxe scale has given us some of the most solid and well-engineered main retail figures, but dear lord this is a level of quality I didn't think possible. Siege Spinister, Earthrise Smokescreen and Earthrise Hoist are all great figures, but this guy, THIS GUY is on a whole other level.
You can tell a lot of love actually went into this hot rod. More than just making a generic toy. This is awesome. Are they going to have a rodimus prime, too??

Such an amazing figure. I just picked him up at Walmart (finally restocked!). The one con about this figure (no pun intended) is that a silver part on one of the exhausts snaps off extremely easily, so be weary of that. Doesn’t affect transformation though. All in all 10000/10 figure.
This figure truly is gold and I will definitely pick him up. I actually can’t wait. What a huge improvement over my Titans Return Hot Rod. Not even a fair comparison

Dude... it was so enjoyable to watch you transform this guy. Like, it looks like there's some substance to the transformation without it being clunky and awkward like Siege Springer was. All that and there's no obvious hollow points! I am really excited for this :)

@@The_Crimson_Shogun Honestly I'm just being silly. I mean, Optimus would've been a boss with the matrix against Unicron, no doubt! But truthfully, Hot Rod gets a bad rap... He was trying to help, knows he made a pretty bad mistake doing so, spends the whole rest of the movie trying so hard to make up for it and take care of everyone, and really does come in to his own as a leader before they even get off Quintessa. Ultra Magnus is interesting... in the movie he makes a few mistakes, but in the show he's pretty infallible. Ultimately he probably would've been a better leader than Rodimus Prime, as far as Season 3 goes. Anyway, all I'm sayin is if you're going to release a Hot Rod with a matrix, it'd be cool to be able to place it inside him. Otherwise it's probably gonna get lost in a box along with all the other accessories I toss in there. :D Still really looking forward to this figure, as well as the whole SS86 line! I dunno, what do you think, Tenkai?
Excellent review! I will definitely be buying this figure. This SS86 line is a whole new era and could potentially change the HASBRO mainline G-1 characters forever, as now HASBRO can potentially put out mainline figures with engineering that is on par with MP scale at the mainline price point. This is very exciting.
I don't even collect Transfomers any more. I've sold my collection, including my three Hot Rods, and even forgot about the franchise. But this. I'm buying this one, 100%. He's going on my desk.
I bought Hot Rod today. He's everything I was hoping for. I hope to get a G1 original at some point, but this will hold me over for a while. It's definitely better than the Power of the Primes version I got recently.
Hot damn, this is legit a mini-masterpiece. I don't mean that he's a well-done figure in CHUG scale; I mean the thought and care that went into making this figure genuinely rivals that of both official masterpiece figures as well as any 3P masterpiece-style Hot Rod. If every single character can get this level of... love, I guess, buy simply being priced one class higher than they'd normally be, I will gladly pay $30.00 for a deluxe.
i've cracked it. the reason they look so good is because the engineering can be considered Real Grade level similar to that of gunpla. Compact, robust, fully articulated, and highly detailed.

At first I didn't care too much to get this figure, but after a more in-depth look at him... WOW, TAKE MY MONEY! (But not before I buy Grimlock)

Such an amazing figure. I just picked him up at Walmart (finally restocked!). The one con about this figure (no pun intended) is that a silver part on one of the exhausts snaps off extremely easily, so be weary of that. Doesn’t affect transformation though. All in all 10000/10 figure.
This figure truly is gold and I will definitely pick him up. I actually can’t wait. What a huge improvement over my Titans Return Hot Rod. Not even a fair comparison

@@The_Crimson_Shogun Honestly I'm just being silly. I mean, Optimus would've been a boss with the matrix against Unicron, no doubt! But truthfully, Hot Rod gets a bad rap... He was trying to help, knows he made a pretty bad mistake doing so, spends the whole rest of the movie trying so hard to make up for it and take care of everyone, and really does come in to his own as a leader before they even get off Quintessa. Ultra Magnus is interesting... in the movie he makes a few mistakes, but in the show he's pretty infallible. Ultimately he probably would've been a better leader than Rodimus Prime, as far as Season 3 goes.
Anyway, all I'm sayin is if you're going to release a Hot Rod with a matrix, it'd be cool to be able to place it inside him. Otherwise it's probably gonna get lost in a box along with all the other accessories I toss in there. :D

Excellent review! I will definitely be buying this figure. This SS86 line is a whole new era and could potentially change the HASBRO mainline G-1 characters forever, as now HASBRO can potentially put out mainline figures with engineering that is on par with MP scale at the mainline price point. This is very exciting.

I bought Hot Rod today. He's everything I was hoping for. I hope to get a G1 original at some point, but this will hold me over for a while. It's definitely better than the Power of the Primes version I got recently.

Hot damn, this is legit a mini-masterpiece. I don't mean that he's a well-done figure in CHUG scale; I mean the thought and care that went into making this figure genuinely rivals that of both official masterpiece figures as well as any 3P masterpiece-style Hot Rod. If every single character can get this level of... love, I guess, buy simply being priced one class higher than they'd normally be, I will gladly pay $30.00 for a deluxe.

i've cracked it. the reason they look so good is because the engineering can be considered Real Grade level similar to that of gunpla. Compact, robust, fully articulated, and highly detailed.
