this grimlock honestly may be the best generations grimlock ever literally stomping on all the POTP ones. Awesome review, I'm pretty surprised the dino mode neck doesn't have the transparent neck piece as there were stock images with him having it. Maybe, and I'm hoping this is the case of PrimevsPrime having a prototype version but none the less an overall amazing Grimlock figure.
People complained that it looked ugly and awkward sinbce transparent plastic is a toy feature and isn't toon accurate. Frankly it's better that they went with one over the other.
@@titanstudios2683 hey I respect your choice that you prefer the POPT grimlock still, but in all honesty this SS 86 Grimlock absolutely knocks not only the popt grimlock but all of the potp dino bots combined out of the park. SS 86 Grimlock is better when it comes to articulation, aesthetics, proportions, and in general just a amazing figure.
As a kid born in 2006 and having the privilege to watch this amazing movie, this figure brings a tear to my eyes and this figure really captures the G1 feel of the movie and show
Same here I was also born in 2006 and I was able to watch what I feel is the best transformers movie ever and I hope they decide to have a new movie with g1 designs like the ones they put in the bumblebee movie
This figure really seems on par, and in some ways maybe even better, than the MP Grimlock we got some years ago. Hasbro is seriously killing it with their engineering lately.
I stopped buying mp years ago and saved the money just incase a saw a line that was really great. That being said the studio series and war for cybertron lines have taken all that money and some and i have no regrets! They really are great lines!

@@matrixofleadership sorry for responding after 2 hours but I personally prefer the smokier chest peice cause to me it makes it more interesting and breaks up the colors but, it does block off the autobot symbol and isn't accurate, hopefully like earthrise optimus there will be variations of it for people who want it smokier or clearer.
Looks amazing! I agree with you that Hasbro/Takara have hit their pinnacle! It’s taken them forever to get to this point it seems. I had to go through some dark times as a transformer collector, and for many many years I bought nothing new, but over the past five years between third part and hasbro, im back to throwing money at nostalgia again. Thank god they finally found the formula that makes the fans stand up and recognize their brilliance.
In that 86 group shot, Magnus is the only one who really sticks out, being a lot more greebled than the others. But he's getting an earth mode figure in Kingdom so that's fine. Springer looks good, he just needs a new release with a clean paintjob. I hope they do that at some point
The group shot looks amazing. Fun stuff. As far as Masterpiece figures go, I never felt like I need every character in Masterpiece form. I've picked and chose which ones I want over the years. But this is knocking it out of the park for me.
Grimlock has been my favorite Transformer since I was a kid so I couldn't be more excited about this figure! It looks so good! Hopefully we get a G2 repaint.
And posable hands and dino arms. Those are literally the only parts of the body that you could easily take off without screws due to the robot hands being on mushroom pegs and the dino arms being on ball joints.
Ahh aren't the simple/basic tranformers just so satisfying:- Colour , accuracy , articulation and transformation wise. The live action movie based ones just cannot do the same.

Masterpiece is the worst place to go for detail lately, with their extreme cartoon obsession. Though it looks like the new masterpiece Skids will be entirely toy-based.

Earthrise Optimus is probably the closest you're gonna get to that. And if you missed it (and want him to have the trailer), it's going to be repackaged for Kingdom.
As the owner of a MP Grimlock, I gotta say this is some pretty creative engineering to solve the same type of problem with a much smaller parts count. Outside of that, all you're really missing is some electroplating for the gold paint.

I would like to have seen it compared to the masterpiece figure, I have that in my collection and wonder if this should replace it or not. I use it as my CHUG Grimlock as it fits the bill size wise
Great review, I'm looking forward to getting him. Wheelie looks great, however I'm a little disappointed by his limited articulation and lack of transformation. All in all I say 10 out of 10
I think it has to do with Hasbro’s wave design. Almost every single wave they sell recently have like 4 deluxes, 2 voyagers, and 1 leader class figure. Studio Series 86 has 3 deluxes, 2 voyager priced figures, and then 1 leader.
I started assembling my '86 movie team begining with the Titans Returns line. Now most are getting replaced wi the Studio Series versions. I didn't think we'd get a G1 Grimlock that scaled but I'm so happy we are. Now my fingers are crossed for Galvatron somewhere down the line.
Honestly, I already stopped collecting the MP figures when they took their random turn to slavish cartoon accuracy over the older realistic vehicle form and more real-world looking robot form approach... Basically once they started designing them to look like the actual cartoon characters and started going with all the super cartoon-accurate colors it really turned me off. In my opinion MP10 and the original MP Bumble(bee) figures are FAR superior to the new versions of both characters, and every new MP announcement/release has just driven that home for me - for example, the new starscream's weird bubble-chest cockpit just rubs me the wrong way. I likes the original range of MP figures because they were highly complex figures that took a really realistic approach to vehicle mode design, while still maintaining the g1 bot designs - but I never wanted them to literally look like the on-screen cartoon characters. It just looks weird in my opinion. To each their own, I suppose, but I'm far happier to get these smaller, more wide-release retail figures that I would be to spend 100s of dollars on the new MP figures I don't actually care for.
I've already bought 2 grimlocks this year.....looks like i'm getting a 3rd. The 86 movie is my favorite piece of transformers media. Don't get me wrong i love my fantoys and gigapower versions, not to mention Wrath but this guy is a no brainer . Him, Hot Rod and Kup are a must have for me.
I like getting MP figures, but I’m not trying to get all of them. Though I will say that I’m mainly going for 3P figures now since they have more cooler transformations and bet looks.
I hate that I missed out on this figure and the other Dino bots. He looks so awesome. I’m sure he would be fantastic with the rest of the line I have. Fantastic review as always!

Because you can play with these and they're reasonably priced. Not everyone can afford or budget for Masterpiece, so having options for fans is pretty sweet.

This figure is just BEATFU, truly a mini masterpiece gridlock. After seeing this review I Do not need any official Takara figures MP figures any more. I am really excited to get this in April the month of my birthday so happy birthday to my XD
I really wish they put the interchangeable red visor just like the MP version, it’s a subtle gimmick that bring this grimlock to another level, the sculpt and the ratchet joints on the arms are perfect
As I have neither the MP Grimlock or POTP’s version, I’ll definitely be looking to get this one as my signature proportionally Perfect Grimlock has been still the Animated Voyager from 2008. I used to dislike the versions of Grimlock that had that clear plastic shield on his chest. But this Grimlock actually locks better with it.

The amount of perfectionists in the ranks is slowly drying up.
The only people who actaully buy them are a select few of reveiwers.
A ton of people still buy mps. I think this line is for the people who can't afford masterpiece. Mps are gonna keep going for a long time
I get mainly MPMs because they have complicated designs that warrent larger figures with more complex engineering.

This figure is just BEATFU, truly a mini masterpiece gridlock. After seeing this review I Do not need any official Takara figures MP figures any more. I am really excited to get this in April the month of my birthday so happy birthday to my XD
I really wish they put the interchangeable red visor just like the MP version, it’s a subtle gimmick that bring this grimlock to another level, the sculpt and the ratchet joints on the arms are perfect

As I have neither the MP Grimlock or POTP’s version, I’ll definitely be looking to get this one as my signature proportionally Perfect Grimlock has been still the Animated Voyager from 2008.

These 86 figures are an absolute must, I love them.
indeed, quite funny to see the bayfantics whine and complain about having classic G1 styled in the studio series line, acting like it's the end of the world or something
