major major key is to make sure that the art you are stylizing is nice and big. Mine was about 24in x 44in. If it's too tiny it will look ROUGH, and not in the way we're all going for (hah). I would also play around with the stamp settings to your liking. Prior to starting the whole process also go to effect > distort & transform > roughen to give the edges that rough/not smooth edge that there is on this art at the beginning of the tutorial.
This has issues with colour objects, when you add the mezzanine to red object for example it puts black and white dots in, then when you go to stamp it changes it to black and white, how do you do this to a red object please.
The grainy distort in the mezzanine menu comes out way too big. How do you effect the texture size? The stamp menu after has no bearing on the actual size. Unless I’m missing something.
Using Ai CC 2018… when I "Expand Appearance", it expands into a group of two objects: the Inner Glow and the Object. Just thought I'd share that since they didn't show that part in this video.
The stamp effect also changes the fill color to black and white with no obvious way to effect it once changed. How do I change it back once the stamp texture is down?
Hi there! If you select the stamp object, you can change the color by clicking the foreground color swatch and picking a new color. Hope that helps! -K
Two questions: What percentage of grey did you use here? How did you get the initial roughness in the lines. I tried this a bunch of times on Blob brush drawing and it seems to make a difference on how the final illustration comes out. What I am getting is coming out too clean on edges and too light or dark compared to your example.
Hi there! The hex for the gray is #878787 (just a smidge lighter than 50%). You can get the initial roughness by selecting the object then going to Effects - Distort & Transform - Roughen. In the dialog, check the "Absolute" option and give it a size value of just a few pixels.
Hi there! If you need any advice on that, come on down to the Forum & ask our experts about it. Let’s have a conversation here: [adobe.ly/3L070uc] ^Rohan
With the popularity of this style, please can Adobe just make this an effect?
Right, I'm very surprised they made something this popular a whole tutorial rather than just making it an available action lol
Agreed
There are actions available that make it just as easy.

worked for me in CC
One of the best tutorials I've seen. Love the bubble windows
How come when I use the image trace all of the texture/grain completely disappears? Kind of negates the entire thing.

if yall ever need a more textured look, instead of selecting stamp, select sponge. This does the trick for my larger vectors

when aaplying the stamp effet, all the grainy mezzotint disappears, why? I follow step by step like in the video
Same!

Please make sure that you image trace the object after applying effects. This should allow you to change the color. Hope that helps!
Love these short videos
how to change colour of the stamp

I need this for 2020!

🙌

Simple to follow! Thanks
Love this ❤️
On point - Thanks a lot!
@Alexander Van Lohen ❤️❤️
Awesome work :)
What do you think to make a program for recording the screen? :)
You could try OBS! It's free.
I know I bought Bandicam I just suggested him :)
It just looks bad when I do it
This is a vector object, how it comes to be 'image traced' on 45 seconds?
Hi there! We've image traced the object so that the multiple effects would also become vectors instead of effects. Hope that helps!
not work in cc18
stamp does nothing?
Why not creating a filter rather than these tedious passages?
If it is vector, Image Trace will be greyed out.
And so when you follow step 9 and expand appearance it greys it out.
Rubbish
just rasterize first then... rubbish
Great tutorial and format but.. GODDAMN WHY IS IT SO LONG WINDED
Naaaaaiiiissss
yep hat didnt work. I can't believe that this is the most expensive piece of software I'll ever own and it is clunky and difficult to use.
♥
Didnt work

Tried it and it looked really bad lol
Too fast. But Thanks a lot.
