This sounds like the way a delusional groomer would describe their under-aged victim. How did a grown adult say this and not see this as a major red flag to Ezra's mental instability? I'm not saying he can't recover, but his fate was sealed a long time ago if these statements are any indication.

@@revan6059 There's plenty of cases of kids "born wrong". Psychologists refer to them as callous-unemotional children, since antisocial personality disorder can only be diagnosed in adults. With proper and extensive treatment some can be fully or partially rehabilitated into a normal life. Some are unrecoverarable and will go on to live the life you can typically expect of a low functioning sociopath. Whether there's a genetic hereditary factor or not is unclear but natural born psychopats absolutely exist.
Anecdotically, one of my childhood's best friend displayed precocious and manipulative behaviour similar to Miller's, and his parents took him to psychotheraphy at an early age (not a common thing in the 90s!). Overall I think Miller's drug abuse and early fame and exposure are to blame for his eroding mental health and magnifying his negative traits. Without the ability to control our impulses and emotions we'd all look like Miller, or worse.

“You'd think they were schizophrenic. They, too, spouted nonsense about their own spiritual prowess.”
But to be honest, his symptoms ( 14:59 ) *do* fall in line with Schizophrenia, which develops in the early twenties. I can pull the _“I know someone like this”_ card just like you, with said person being my parent who was diagnosed with Schizophrenia early in life. Ezra’s case is what can happen when a Schizophrenic person treats their disease with ignorance and drugs, instead of awareness and proper medication. To be very clear, this does *not* imply any fault or intention. Schizophrenia is a disease that forces the host’s brain to perceive auditory/visual hallucinations as reality, and the brain then eliminates any differences that could signal to the host otherwise. It’s very easy for someone who isn’t aware of onset to continue with their current lifestyle (Ezra was already recreationally taking drugs) and worsen their symptoms to the point of no return.
As for his eccentricity prior to these incidents, there is the lesser known fact that Schizophrenia lies on the Schizoid spectrum of mental illness. Those with Schizoid Personality Disorder (which I have) tend to give the same responses he did during his interviews ( 4:38 ), not because they are "bad/evil," but because they have a _detached sense of self._ Those without a clearly defined sense of self have difficulty empathizing with any particular group, and as a result, we can resonate with _everyone_ *including* criminals (this can also be manifested in other areas like gender neutrality). Those who are impaired empathetically tend to operate more on logic, and have abstract ideas of what they "should" think or values they "should" uphold. For those who are familiar with this spectrum of mental illness, you may notice that Ezra's early responses as a young teen (regarding the duality of man etc.) were very honest about how morally grey he was, which is in-line with the Schizoid personality (at our core, we strive to be *philosophically correct,* rather than *politically or socially* correct.) Then his popularity grew and he matured enough to choose his words more carefully and with intention, e.g. you could tell his later ideas about overthrowing the patriarchy focused a lot more on being politically correct. If his crimes are indicative of anything, we can pretty much agree this was a false persona, and he was never pro-women.
      But hey, *who knows really?*
I think it is wrong for the creator of this video, Turkey Tom, to tie Ezra's early interviews and reputation (as adults, god knows how much we evolve over time), even the _type of roles_ that he’s played when he was younger, to his current condition. Similarly, Johnny Depp and Timothy Chalet are actors who favor morally complex roles to act in (like Kevin), yet I don’t see any bullshit claims they could be psychopaths. If anything, them performing well in these roles indicates nothing but their talent in film. Turkey Tom also narrated at 15:22 that Ezra's behavior was "no doubt enabled by his newfound wealth" with absolutely _zero_ basis, which quite frankly threw away any objective credibility this video had for me. UA-cam videos fall under the same entertainment industry everyone hypocritically points fingers at, and do benefit from having a polarizing narrative… but as a result, all the commenters in here screaming Ezra must have always been an inherently evil person are clearly biased by it, and blind to the possibility that Ezra may have once genuinely been just an intelligent young adult, whose character was simply later deformed by mental illness (could be Schizophrenia.)
Case in point, *drugs and disease aren’t mutually exclusive,* and it’s quite concerning the latter was immediately disregarded for no reason other than disdain for this person. Although having a disorder doesn’t justify his actions, all the comments ignoring obvious symptoms staring them in the face because it doesn’t fall in line with Tom’s narrative of evil psychopath, are why our current mental healthcare system is a shit-show.
"This is that one kid who was told they were "gifted" or special their entire life"
I hope you understand your stereotyping was a long shot in the dark and very *unhelpful.* There is no such difference between a prominent figure committing a crime, vs. the average citizen committing that same crime. If acknowledging someone's skills had any effect on the way they turn out, then what about the number of fucked up orphans in jail who were oppositely told they'd never amount to anything _"special their entire life."_

leave it to the YT comments to take the time to debate pronouns when the subject at hand is sexual misconduct. just wanna point that out. What a fucking society we live in.
my thoughts in case anyone needed to know: I normally respect people's pronouns to what I believe is a fair extent.
"She/her" and "He/him" are respected always,
and "they/them" (though I have some misgivings as an ex-NB myself and the whole can of worms being the NB vs binary trans perspectives and debates within the queer community) is respected to the best of my ability as well, as I see it as a common courtesy.
I simply refuse to call anyone neo-pronouns, including "it", "[insert animal]-self", and whatever other nonsense. I feel like that line is valid.
That being said, Ezra is one of those people (and there have been quite a few examples in recent years) where there's enough to public knowledge about them to see how they are just outrageous and manipulative enough to quite possibly either:
      a) be lying about their gender identity to ease down walls between them and their victims while simultaneously securing a shield to hide behind when it comes time to criticize them or
      b) fully believe in the gender spectrum but are so far gone with a combination of illicit substances, eccentric spiritualism, trauma, and just about every indicator of very on-the-nose derangement that you can think of that it wouldn't be a stretch to say that their perception of gender was probably impacted by any/all of the above, and could be argued to not be their "true" gender if they were in a sober, healthy state of mind.
Frankly, I believe either to be fully possible, or maybe a combination of both when you get down to it. And whether a commenter addresses them as they/them or he/him, it's stupid to correct them because both opinions have grounds to stand on.
Or one commenter just doesn't believe in using "they/them" at all, in which case it's still wasting your time trying to make a statement on both sides because at that point you're just on differing ends of the aisle when it comes to gender politics and let's be honest no one is budging from their opinion on that down here in the rando comments.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

I think a lot of people are kind of glossing over the fact that Ezra was groomed and raped as a kid himself, and while I am by _NO means_ saying that excuses his behavior, it could explain it to some degree, as often times, people like him don't come from nowhere, often, they were victims of abuse themselves and something in them became so broken that they then chose to enact that same abuse onto others, perhaps in a vain attempt to regain a lost piece of themselves, or to enact revenge on people who don't deserve it for that catharsis, because they can't get revenge on the person or people who'd done that to them.
Ezra was raped and exposed to drugs at a young age, and that kind of upbringing is bound to mess up a person's mind. So I think the people saying, "he's the type of guy who's never been told 'no'", are kind of missing the plot, slightly. I think it's more that his boundaries were never respected, so he disrespects the boundaries of others, because he has absolutely no idea what boundaries even are, possibly explaining his erratic behavior.
Well, that, and the drugs, obviously.
But overall, Erza is just another tragic case in a _long_ line of cases where evil begets evil, and Hollywood is either incredibly good at attracting evil people, creating them, or both. It is a den of snakes, and I'd advise all parents to keep their children _far_ away from that place.

    • @RR-on4sk
      @RR-on4sk 5 місяців тому +1

You don't know that though. A lot of abusers play that card as an excuse. If abuse was going to lead abuse, women would be 99% of the abusers. They are not.

    • @leirawhitehart1236
      @leirawhitehart1236 5 місяців тому +1

@RR-on4sk I will admit, I don't know that for certain, but I think it could be considered a pretty good guess to be true, and the reason why, is because think about it, this type of thing has been going on for decades in Hollywood, and he was already described doing far too adult things as a teenager, which suggests things that happened to him earlier in life before that point.
Not to mention, it is a common story, not just one that's said by the abusers, but can often be confirmed by others around them, and this is a story I've heard, again and again.
And I'm not saying that this has happened to all abusers, or that all people who're abused in this way end up perpetuating the abuse, but a portion of people who have been abused in childhood later go on to become abusers, this is a pattern that can be seen again and again in many people.
However, luckily, many more people _don't_ perpetuate the abuse and seek to protect others from becoming abused like they were, both men and women, and that's very noble of them to come forward with their stories, and do their best to help those who are in situations they themselves were once in. Many can become parents, and do their best to protect their children from the kinds of people who hurt them when they were young.
Again, as I've said already, this doesn't mean that facing abuse as a child will _automatically_ turn that child into an abuser as an adult, but it is a possibility that could happen.
Just like not every traumatic childhood incident could lead to DID (disassociative identity disorder or multiple personality disorder), but some do. The mind is deeply complex, yet also so fragile, especially at such a young age. There are many directions for it to go, and often, what abuse growing up does, is it messes with your perceptions of what you think is normal, and for many, that can be mostly solved with therapy and time (and God, but that's another deep subject), and while they could never forget what happened to them, they can start to get a sense of what is normal, however, for some, they just never get out of that mindset and continue to perpetuate the same evil done to them.
Like how some people who were raped can develop rape fantasies. I know, because I've known someone like that.
These aren't things that happened to everyone who gets abused a child, but the mind can go in many wild directions when under extreme abuse, and I'm sure the drugs he takes don't help with his mental state at all. Each day, he finds himself farther and farther from reality, and he's doing everything possible to ruin himself further.
And of course, as I've said before, what has happened to him or others, is of course _NOT_ an excuse, but simply a possible explanation, as I believe this _can_ happen to people.
He still chooses to do evil, and he still chooses to drift farther from reality.

Something i think is wild about American culture / system is that a 17 year old is legally considered adult enough to drive a car, considered a child in matters concerning sexual development and only at the age of 21 is considered mature enough to consume alcohol.
As a European i find it incredibly disturbing in ways i can't describe to consider a 17 year old as a ''child''
Over here a 17 year old is considered a ''young adult'' or ''teenager'', not ''child''...
Also over here you can drink at the age of 16. I feel like Americans tend to project infancy on otherwise mature (or maturing) individuals. I find this disturbing for reasons i can't really explain. I get similar vibes from this to adults who wear diapers as part of an ''age play'' fetish. :S
Anyway, i mostly agree with what you're saying but in the case of young adults i'm rather impartial to claims of ''they are more mature than their age'' because at the age of 17 some people mature (emotionally, mentally, physically, etc) faster than others, etc. In Europe it's actually quite common for people of such ages to be considered practically adult (or otherwise close to adulthood) already.
Honestly, my opinion is that the laws regarding this are insane. I don't think 16 18 and 21 are somehow ''magic numbers'' of maturity in any case and 9 years ago the law used to be completely different in this country regarding age of maturity. They raised the legal drinking (and smoking) age from 16 to 18 in 2014. I wasn't even aware of this and thought it was still legal for a 16 year old to order drinks in a bar. Go figure.

Frequently, they are given little responsibility, praised for doing the bare minimum, not encouraged to be independent, and basically crippled emotionally by parents who are ill equipped to guide them through their feelings and help them to manage them. But that said, I also strongly believe that gender, sexuality, and other elements of identity don't mean shit when it comes to morality. Having a certain identity is not a justification for poor behavior. If you choose to be evil, that becomes your identity. It cancels out anything else. If you are evil it doesn't matter what else you are. It becomes all you are. And the same goes for being good. If you're a kindhearted person who does good things, then the rest of your identity is less important and you don't deserve to be treated poorly for it. Nobody deserves discrimination. What concerns me about people like Ezra is that they make a lot of money when they are very young, move out of home before they are really ready to, and then have no one to oversee their moral compass.
When there should be someone saying, “No, Ezra, you are not jesus. It’s time for bed,” instead they are staying up until all hours, taking drugs, and buying guns.
Then, when a more vulnerable person enters their orbit, they see nothing at all wrong with acting inappropriately.
