GR Yaris in EU market with red brake calipers has torsen LSD-s. The ones with plain black brake calipers are with open diffs. It's a "High performance" package
Ok, so 2 things about the GR yaris. DTS did indeed drive the circuit pack looking at the picture, because it has the forged BBS wheels and Red brakes. Awesome news on the C43 AMG. I own a 2002 E55 AMG. It’s an amazing car for sure but my 1994 E320 & 1977 450SL feel more like a Mercedes-Benz. DT-S nailed it on the head as to why.
Every automotive journalist keeps raving about the GR86, but here in the UK, Toyota shipped around 500 cars to dealers. They are basically unobtainable.
It’s disappointing Camisa didn’t drive a real Yaris. You got the poverty spec one not a circuit pack model (which accounts for 95% of sales in the rest of the world) as it’s way more special than the Corolla. I hope someone in Australia will do a proper comparison with those 2.
I never drove any W202 that was not a 4cyl... My father had a C180 "Esprit" while i had a C200 "elegance". So both 4cyl petrol/gasoline, sadly both with 4 speed auto transmissions (we bought them used and not at the same time), no traction control, no stability control, just ABS. (first year of production cars) And with these cars i noticed the big difference the little word for the trim line actually made. Esprit models had a slight change in the suspension: there were rubber "pucks" between the springs and their seats. And in the Esprit model the front ones were 1.5cm thinner pucks, and in the rear 5mm. Which on one hand meant a slight lowering of the car and on the other hand that the front was lowered more than the rear. The turnin was very different. My "elegance" turn-in wasn't bad, but the "Esprit" of my dad was great! (the weight difference between a 1.8 and the 2L wasn't much, both NA engines and mine had 12 more hp i think) The 4 speed auto was the "weakpoint" of our cars. Sure you could switch gear by the speed of your throttle pedal movement ect. But on one hand, the throttle pedal was quite stiff, and the torque converter also was rather "stiff" And that made them a little tricky to drive on slippery conditions. Like snow and ice here in the alps. Especially initial starts from a stop were sometimes a "pita". The stiff pedal and then a snap and the rear wheels would slip. (I have mostly driven rwd cars and owned only rwd cars but one so i am used to drive them on snow and ice) Oh , and ours had E or S on the Auto switch: Economy and Standard. Later wones had the W and S. The W202 was the only car i ever had that had me shaking after an unexpected drift for 10km home from where it happened. And that during the summer on a wet road. The reason were the tyres. (I mean it's long ago, so maybe they make good tyres now) I bought some Falken tyres back then via a friend of my dad, and the first summer they were fine. In the second summer they got really loud, and on one occation when i turned left under throttle on a wet road to make it before the light turned red, the gearbox decided "oh he wants to go quick so let's shift down mid corner to give the engine 4000rpm and max torque"... so the rear went off sideways. There were cars, there were people on the sidewalk the rear moved towards, there was a cyclist with eyes as big as a hockey puck, and i managed to "ride it out" without comming too close to any of them and not hitting anything or anybody. (i still think it was luck and correct instinctive reaction more than skill) But the rest of the journey home i drove like a 90 year old. I bought new tyres after that. Goodyear or Dunlops and they worked fine until i sold the car.
I got curious about your old ITR gearing talk and I threw the US and JDM ratios all in my gear ratio calc spreadsheet and the US gearing puts the 5700 RPM VTEC engagement at 28.0 MPH, 25.7 MPH for JDM. Certainly a bit high for tight corners but your guys' "50 MPH" hyperbole rather caught my ear out. Even in 2nd gear the US ITR is into VTEC before 43 MPH.
Fun episode but I feel like this show runs out of air with three people on. When it’s just the two of you there’s enough time to take in what’s being said a bit better.
So the moral of the story is, if you have a car person at the head of a car company, they will make great cars. Seems obvious but apparently a lot of car companies are oblivious.
The ITR discourse is making me regret not buying an 8k project car with a B16A block but genuine chassis, gearbox and OH GOD THOSE SEATS. Hatchback you could get with a straight six you could tune to more than 400 hp and a stick and rear drive. Such a cool car. BMW was at the top like 9 years ago. I actually liked the F80 M3, it had a great interior and actually sounded nice and imo looked better than the E90. The F10 M5 you could technically also get with a stick and it also had one of those great BMW interiors. The first gen M2 was badass. What a great era for bmw.
i hear gr 86 is faster than gr corolla ... how about a prius momentum handling car, similar to lotus elise , with small engine powering battery powering electric drive, in rear mid engine format with rear seats facing the rea rand a more aerodynamic shell around it
You have the shorten the ratios on the IT-R to turn 4100 RPM at 80? Geeze, the second-gen S2000 was turning 4000 at 75 and the first gen was about 4200. I think the GS-R version that that generation Integra was shorter-geared than that, too.
As someone who preferred my tuned sti hatch to my stock s2000 on michigan roads, i think i am the sole person who wants a 4 cyl 718. Those damn EJ’s have stolen my heart, but everyone seems to hate that porsche 2.5.
First off I am ashamed I did not not about this podcast until now and second of all I had no idea Jason was from the Bay Area. I live just down from SF in San Mateo.
Again with the C43 why do you of all people (Derik) need 4 doors? CLK 55 is a under the radar bargain of the same era. 2 nice long doors and much sportier than the sedan. 5.4 M113 and all the AMG trinkets.
On the Yaris and Corolla weights Jason has switched the front with rear on the left side (plugged into the read reversed), guess he thought it was his Mercedes ABS. Either that or the left side is very heavy in the rear and light in the front.
Sam Smith must be a regular in this show. Also, Jason should also get Hyphen in on all the cars they talk about. His opinion is as valuable as the other two.
Doesn't Kristen Lee have a w202 AMG as well? Wait, you got charged for the air bnb and didn't even go? If the civic is big, how big is an accord then?!
Ahhhh VW axle tramp. I loved my MkIV GTI, think it was really unfairly slighted by the contemporary motoring press, but axle tramp was absolutely its biggest sin. Took me awhile in life before I realized not every car hops violently up and down when you try to pull away from a light in the rain 😆 Later in that car's life I did stiffer engine/trans mounts and solid brass subframe mounts, bye bye tramp, hello amazing front grip, confidence, and shift feel; with a well-judged spring/shock combo it became a little beast! A bit much for NVH though, if I could do it all again I'd come up with some sort of intermediate stiffness subframe mount between stock and solid brass.
My c43 on KW coilovers and performance exhaust was a hooligan, but I still regret selling it, just couldn't justify its presence in a 2 car garage with the w124 e500, R129 SL and S211 E63 Wagon...also Toyota canceled my deposit for GR corolla at MSRP saying they won't get more than 2 cars at the dealership...hoping VW will redesign the stupid infotainment in facelifted Golf R so I can replace the daily driven GLA45 AMG soon
´Scrotum of Optimus Prime´ is actually by far the most accurate description for that Civic FK2! 😆👌 EDIT: As a german i can confirm Jason´s hate on modern day german cars 100%. We stopped building good cars in like 2018 or so, everything after is just crap.
Unless the yaris that hyphen dorve was, for some reason, extensivley made to look like the track pack, it was a track pack. Red calipers, the Forged BBS, wich havv less spokes, and the PS4S. If you're not buying the track in the first place you won't be going out of your way to spend that kind of money, you woulda just bought the track. Also, almost all GR yarisisisies sold in eruope/germany where track packs, as a local dealer still has a base GR sitting there 2 years later, and the track packs sold out within weeks of being available. Every somewhat major dealer in germany got 2 GR's, almost all of them track packs, wich sold very fast. the other stupid ones remain
yaris track pack also has improved/stiffer suspenison and some other changes im forgetting aside from the obvious diffs, so that would mostly explain jason's experience
More guest action.. is this a new thing...or all filmed in the same day? 🤔 How is it not the "R rated episode" both cars and Jason and Sam's language 🤬
Oh, you fuckers. I gleefully unloaded my 99 C43 after rebuilding the grenaded auto trans back in what.. '09? I loved that engine SO MUCH, but could never get over the sleepy auto and propensity for eating my fucking lunch with repair costs (Trans, AC, Axle, blah blah blah). And not fully-defeatable traction control :( I currently have an Alfa Giulia QV so I am sure I learned my lesson.

please limit the menage a troise format to maybe once a quarter. adding sam smith in to the mix is ok. but please not every week. don’t become another ‘The Smoking Tire’ type thang 😝
don't watch then lmao. Sam smith is a top tier amateur driver who probably knows more than either dts and equal to or more than cammisa about cars lmao. He's more than qualified to be on the pod.
This comment may have had some merit after his first appearance but it honestly doesn't here. He's much calmer and DTS is contributing more. Try watching it before moaning.

You have the shorten the ratios on the IT-R to turn 4100 RPM at 80? Geeze, the second-gen S2000 was turning 4000 at 75 and the first gen was about 4200. I think the GS-R version that that generation Integra was shorter-geared than that, too.
LOVE THE CLAP
As someone who preferred my tuned sti hatch to my stock s2000 on michigan roads, i think i am the sole person who wants a 4 cyl 718. Those damn EJ’s have stolen my heart, but everyone seems to hate that porsche 2.5.
If you guys like the W202 C43 what are your thoughts on IS500 😉
First off I am ashamed I did not not about this podcast until now and second of all I had no idea Jason was from the Bay Area. I live just down from SF in San Mateo.
Yessss sam smith again. Finally, we have the trio. The reviewer, the racer and the vintage car dude.
Sam Harris should do some trailers for Revelations episodes
Again with the C43 why do you of all people (Derik) need 4 doors? CLK 55 is a under the radar bargain of the same era. 2 nice long doors and much sportier than the sedan. 5.4 M113 and all the AMG trinkets.
I wish you could’ve put an evo 8-9 with AYC and PSC2 in the mix. I bet it would be faster than the Yaris
c'mon guys get a early CH1 ATR in that side of the pond. It's basically a prelude
My c43 on KW coilovers and performance exhaust was a hooligan, but I still regret selling it, just couldn't justify its presence in a 2 car garage with the w124 e500, R129 SL and S211 E63 Wagon...also Toyota canceled my deposit for GR corolla at MSRP saying they won't get more than 2 cars at the dealership...hoping VW will redesign the stupid infotainment in facelifted Golf R so I can replace the daily driven GLA45 AMG soon
not worth getting a 7.5 R?
Good, very good.
Bring Randy on rhe Show
Guys, be safe out there and before going on racetrack remember to get deep exfoliaton & moisturization
I put PS4s on my Morizo the first week.
Can Sam become a host on this podcast? He makes a good addition to the team. You three work well together.
´Scrotum of Optimus Prime´ is actually by far the most accurate description for that Civic FK2! 😆👌
EDIT: As a german i can confirm Jason´s hate on modern day german cars 100%. We stopped building good cars in like 2018 or so, everything after is just crap.
Where else would you watch, and listen to, a podcast about cars; and you get this: "Is that an underwire?" Yep, nuts and knowledgeable...
Won’t someone please think of the Audi S1 🤓
Yeah its sad the c36 was a better car even though the v8 is a better sport engine. But the 3.6 i6 was actually really smooth and fun to rev out.
Every somewhat major dealer in germany got 2 GR's, almost all of them track packs, wich sold very fast. the other stupid ones remain
yaris track pack also has improved/stiffer suspenison and some other changes im forgetting aside from the obvious diffs, so that would mostly explain jason's experience
someone lend hyphen a well sorted old honda!
35:17 You don't have YT Premium for free???
More guest action.. is this a new thing...or all filmed in the same day? 🤔
How is it not the "R rated episode" both cars and Jason and Sam's language 🤬
That would be every episode for the language.....
This podcast isn't for you then
This video begs the question…what are some of the most unreliable cars you guys have owned? Could be an entire episode
And not fully-defeatable traction control :(
I currently have an Alfa Giulia QV so I am sure I learned my lesson.
The first round with all three of you guys was fun but not quite sustainable with Sam and Jason dominating things so much. This is much more balanced! I don't want two-man Jason/DTS episodes to end but I'd be happy to have Sam back sometimes, he fits in well after all!!
That's what you'd expect. DTS is happy to let the extroverted types blurt out their dirt. They're old mates and it was bound to happen. But yeah, this episode at least gave Derek room to talk. Last episode seemed like a catch up for Jason and Sam, but with cameras and microphones. But it was funny as f%.
Size matters
Nah!!! sam smith has to go
3 not a magic #
The best hothach is Hyundai i20N, you should try it, make an Icon episode on Hyundai N cars they really moved the hothach game 😍😍😍
I hate the intro jingle so much
please limit the menage a troise format to maybe once a quarter. adding sam smith in to the mix is ok. but please not every week. don’t become another ‘The Smoking Tire’ type thang 😝
Hyphen is too old to do this every week.
This Sam Smith is way more entertaining than the one that sings on the radio 😂
Get rid of Sam, I like DTS much better. Besides, one loud mouthed egotist is funny, but two are insufferable.
then don’t watch?
don't watch then lmao. Sam smith is a top tier amateur driver who probably knows more than either dts and equal to or more than cammisa about cars lmao. He's more than qualified to be on the pod.
DTS is unique in his manner and expertise; guys like Sam are a dime a dozen on UA-cam.
This comment may have had some merit after his first appearance but it honestly doesn't here. He's much calmer and DTS is contributing more. Try watching it before moaning.
Get off his sack, he’s not that good, nor funny. And I’d put my money on Jason as far as driving skills go.
