The NES library is ridiculously huge. There's a ton of really great games for it that people don't here about just because they got lost in the shuffle. It's kind of the same thing as the Wii: you have to sift through a pile of garbage to find them but the good stuff is there and there's a lot of it.

The reason the N64 controller is so good is the exact same reason why nothing else looks like it. It has so many ways of holding it because the N64 was Nintendo's first 3D console, and they had no clue how the control schemes for 3D would develop. So they made a controller with three different ways to hold it- joystick and buttons, joystick and d-pad, and buttons and d-pad. Later controllers like Xbox and Gamecube settled on joystick and buttons in prime position, which you can totally do on an N64 controller, but not on a PS1 controller, at least not until the dualshock came out several years later.
The Wii U is probably the most maligned console of all time. It was a straight upgrade of the Wii in every way, except for losing the Gamecube backwards compatibility. It played every game in the Wii library and the controller tablet screen had a ton of untapped potential as a design feature for games. Nintendo seemed to be the only company even trying to use it, it was so cool having the dungeon maps in Zelda in your hands while you played without having to fiddle around in an on screen menu. I DO think of Breath of the Wild as a Wii U game, thank you very much.
I think the problem with the wii u is the library. Not a lot of games and very few standout titles. It was bigger than the wii more complicated than the wii and while the wii u had a ton of potential it wasn't utilized well.
Bayonetta 2, DKC Tropical Freeze, Captain Toad, Hyrule Warriors, Pikmin 3, Yoshi's Wooly World just off the top of my head. Wii U had games, plus the Wii backwards compatibility. Honestly I think it's a victim of bad marketing first and foremost. Most people probably thought it was like the Xbox 360 Pro of Nintendo consoles.
Nah the Wii U is kind of shit. And I'm saying this as like the one guy who actually likes Star Fox 0. With how many of its games have been ported to the switch you're buying it for that, Nintendo Land, or Pushmo World (they've got to bring Pushmo and Crashmo back. They're great puzzle games).
Ever since my Gamecube broke, I use my Wii to play GC games and my WiiU to play Wii games. And since most have been rereleased on the Switch, I play the WiiU games there. It’s been ages since I started my WiiU though, while I do start the Wii every now and then.
PS3 take at 1 hour is absolutely true. I can’t think of anyone at high school that talked about that, but we were always talking about our builds in COD4
PS2 was easily the GOAT of gaming. The amount of games and unforgettable franchises that came out for the PS2 along with all the cheaper indie discs meant there was an insane amount to play. Including the fact that you could share saves or upgrade your storage with memory cards and the backwards compatability was great. Plus then there's the inception of network gaming and accessories like the eye toy. Plus Demo discs - they were a great way to try and find new games.
I was a Nintendo kid who switched to Xbox with the 360, and I'm perfectly comfortable with the PS2 being rated as the #1 console. Iconic library, iconic controller, they sold a bajillion of them, it was many people's first DVD player - the only strike against the PS2 was that it was so amazing that Sony got lazy/arrogant and the PS3 was kinda meh.
I can't blame you for your placement of the Wii U, but after all the stuff with the terrible launch and sparse library for a good portion of its career, it actually ended up with a fantastic library of first party games. Nintendo Land was a banger with the right friends, and I had friends that really enjoyed Mario Chase and the Luigi's Mansion game. Mario Kart 8 is one of the most popular games on the Switch, an entire console later, and it didn't even change all that much. How many people play the battle mode over regular racing? The characters they added were also cosmetic, and while I'm not complaining about them adding the characters and battle mode, what I am saying is that the two games are basically the same. Super Mario Maker was an awesome game that gave a whole lot of people the tools to let them be creative in awesome ways. Zelda. I'm not a huge fan of ports except in some specific situations (and the Zelda ports ironically don't fit my personal criteria), but you could play The Windwaker and Twilight Princess on the system with great quality of life changes, and the fabled Breath of the Wild was also on the system, even if I agree with you that it's basically a Switch game. There was also Hyrule Warriors. Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze is the best DK game since the Super Nintendo, and possibly even better. Splatoon was an exciting new IP that is still popular two generations later on the next gen console, and it honestly has barely changed since the first iteration aside from a new mode or two and some weapons and maps. Pikmin 3, while short, gave Pikmin fans a game well worthy of their years-long hunger for more Pikmin that wasn't that stupid 3DS game or whatever console it was on. Love or hate Paper Mario, Color Splash was actually an okay game (and this is coming from one whose favorite Paper Mario game is TTYD by a long shot). It didn't fix everything that went wrong with Sticker Star, but it did introduce a number of interesting things that made it at least a decent experience, even if there was still no point to the combat. Super Smash Bros. 4 fixed the problems that people had with Brawl and saw a massive increase in the non-Melee competitive smash scene. I'm pretty sure it broke a record for entrants at EVO, the biggest annual fighting game tournament, and Smash 4 is in Guinness for longest tournament win streak of a competitive fighting game. Super Mario 3D World was innovative in its multiplayer aspect for Mario platform games. There were SO many levels with an incredible amount of unique themes And now for my personal favorite, Xenoblade Chronicles X. The fact that that game will likely live and die on the Wii U is a travesty unlike any other. I understand if you or other people don't enjoy that kind of gameplay, but holy cow did the exploration, setting, and combat speak to me in a way that no other game has before or since. It's easily my favorite single-player game, no contest. And then there's a New Super Mario Bros. entry (that I actually enjoyed a lot), Captain Toad, Yoshi's Woolly World, a new Mario Party entry, Kirby, and Pokken Tournament. And those are only the most prominent first-party/console-exclusive games that I could think of and isn't to mention other third party games or virtual console games, of which there were a LOT. It's not an FPS console where you're going to get the newest version of CoD and [insert other similar game here] and see a large library through similar next-gen or next-year releases, but the innovation it made on new and existing IPs was pretty crazy, and there was a whole lot of quality games to play by the last year of its life before the Switch came out.

The tier list even had a section for obscure consoles, yet this list is missing the actual obscure consoles. The list should also group certain systems together. There is no real reason to have every version of the 360 on this list, etc etc. There are actually way more consoles missing from this list than there on the list.... Magnavox odyssey, Magnavox odyssey 2, Intellivision, Intellivision 2, Colecovision, Atari 2600 (I know it's on the list, but the console had multiple variations including a JR version), Atari 5200, Atari 7800, Philips cdi, Panasonic 3do front and top loader (since this list seperates all consoles even if it's just an updated or lower budget version), Sega Genisis 2, Sega Genisis 3, RadioShack tandyvison (RadioShack branded Intellivision, there's also a sears branded version I can't recall the name of), Atari Lynx, Sega Nomad, Neo Geo, Wonderswan, Wonderswan color, Wii mini, Panasonic Q (fancy gamecube with a dvd player), Famicom, Superfamicom, Top loader NES, Pong systems with multiple variations that are still considered "consoles", and some obscure older computers that doubled as game consoles like Texas Instruments TI 99/4 and TI 99/4A (Yes, this computer had a slot for cartridge games), Gameboy Micro, Neo Geo Pocket, Gameboy pocket, Atari Jaguar, etc etc. There are even game consoles (mainly handheld) that are made specifically for people in prison to buy with their commissary. Even if you ditched a lot of the filler stuff (multiple versions of the same console) and left off some of the obscure or foreign stuff... this list is missing a lot of known consoles. Oh and btw... no mention of double dragon for NES, blasphemy. TMNT for NES was also pogged. There's also paperboy which is probably still good these days for some sort of challenge run or some shit.

@ 14:00 his take on sonic buttons being more complex than mario buttons doesnt hold up. Sonic has less going for it with buttons and move tech than mario does.
Man, I don't know whether to blame console players or tierlist makers but there really is no need to put the exact same console 5 times on the same list and act like there's meaningful distinctions between them.
PS5 in C tier is criminal, especially because enell said the only reason it's not d is because of the controller. It literally is just a better ps4 as long as you have the disk version. How come the GBA gets props for backwards compatability but not the PS5? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!!!
because the GBA had its own huge list of games that weren't playable on the original Gameboy/Color. The Playstation 5 is called that because that's the amount of exclusives it has and Demon's Souls is the only good one out of those five, there's no point in buying a PS5 if you already own a PS4.
@@Rislear The Ps4 sounds like a plane taking off when you play games on it. Ps4 games play way better than even the ps4 pro on it. The Ps5 has been out for way less time than every other console on the list so more games are already guaranteed to come out. It also has way more exclusives than the alternative. It also has an elite controller and it has upgraded VR with visuals better than any PC VR. The Ps5 makes the Ps4 obsolete.

Even if you ditched a lot of the filler stuff (multiple versions of the same console) and left off some of the obscure or foreign stuff... this list is missing a lot of known consoles. Oh and btw... NL.... Viewtiful Joe also came out on Playstation 2 just as an FYI. Anyway, enough of the nerdflexing. 😅

PS2 is far greater than the PS2 slim.
I had 2 or 3 PS2 slims gifted to me by my dad , none of them survived a fall from the entertainment stand. The OG PS2? Had it before all of my slims, still have it (it's fallen from the same stand dozens upon dozens of times).
11:40 Dude Advance Wars went hard
this tier list unlocked so many memories i forgot i had. stay pegged eggman
Smackdown (here comes the pain) for ps2 is best wrestling game of all time.
GameCube has one of the best Zelda games in Wind Waker, the best Smash Bros game in Melee, one of the best Mario kart games in Double Dash, the best F-zero game, it has great games.
The list is incomplete without Nokia N-Gage
Holy shit a fusion frenzy reference
The billy Hatcher name drop got me in the feels
How NL remembers so much its crazy
"i don't need to play pizza tower, i've already played it" let me tell you
you a dingus
took 9 minutes to get the first actual ranked console... never change NL
Crazy how different Millennials viewed GameCube at the time vs Gen Z. I was like 7 when I got one and loved my GameCube. Most of my peers feel the same.
I'm technically zoomer but at the very late end at 26, and I think the game cube was a clap machine for sure
Dear NL i have been watching since early 2012 or 2013 and i honestly dont know whats going on in half your vids BUT the tangents are amazing.
Also i can safely say i learnt the word "candestine" so even when i have no idea whats going on its content of the highest degree.
Red ring of death was the death of Xbox for me. Went over to playstation and never looked back.
tokyo jungle mention in 2023, pog.
can't believe I just got shoutouts for Teemto Pagalies and Mars Guo, this is the best day of my life
I was screaming about the ps2 being in A tier. I'm so glad you changed your mind. If you don't put the NES in S tier I'm gonna lose it
God the first ten minutes of this video is just a confusing hell.
Someone made a good version of joust recently called Killer Queen
I woke up drunk from last night and started watching this, ps2 can play any non-bluray movie. Ps2 is still probably my favorite console to this day, it did everything I needed and it had exclusive ps games, I know it's nostalgia but it was soo good
insane ps3 slander
aiming with c buttons in golden eye was so bad lmao
You forgot about StarTropics for the NES, one of the best games. I played the shit outta that.
Do re so fa do re
Peter Peter!
Shadowrun for the Genesis was a great RPG! Deck building and hacking! Breaking into corporate offices! Cyber augs! XD
Soon NL will be able to create the ultimate content: The Tier List Tier List
no mention of double dragon for NES, blasphemy. TMNT for NES was also pogged. There's also paperboy which is probably still good these days for some sort of challenge run or some shit.
Seeing how NL misidentifies the 360 when he's got 20 other 360's waiting to get ranked, can't wait to see what xbox he tries to figure out what it really is.
57:00 absolute based take. It’s incredible how shitty the n64 controller is, yet the console was still so legendary
Quite possibly the only tier list in history to have the B row to have the least amount of entries
simply Pog
How did he manage to pick the single worst tier list template for this in the entirety of the internet and not even question it
great video tho could relate to the struggle of identifying different xbox variations
While I liked the funny moments of this tier list, I think I enjoyed moments when he got a little nostalgic even more.
Same, NL and I both owned and played pretty much all the same things which is funny. He did the Game Gear dirty though, Sonic 2 slapped hard.
Me in the ICU: 32:30
Im so happy the ps2 is in S tier. That was my only one i am extremely passionate about
OG Xbox will always be my nostalgic favourite. I still my Xbox a lot
I'm interested to see how this goes, but N64 will never stop being on top
You also had the buy a modem for ps2 and screw it into the back
PS2 and GBA SP are immediate S tier for me
I haven't watched this yet but if he ranks the vita low I'm gonna cry
@ 14:00 his take on sonic buttons being more complex than mario buttons doesnt hold up. Sonic has less going for it with buttons and move tech than mario does.
Man, I don't know whether to blame console players or tierlist makers but there really is no need to put the exact same console 5 times on the same list and act like there's meaningful distinctions between them.
What the fuck his Sonic sounds are literally perfect.
This is gonna be a spicy one
Gba and og box in s tier is an s tier opinion
Does anyone have a link to this tiermaker?
Ok i return for this.... Sega saturn goated🤩
Functional group tier list next ? Cbtm
